    The torque on the oil drain plug (according to the shop manual) is 27 ft-lbs, and 7 ft-lbs on the oil filter. You can get a semi-functional tripod from the thrift store (or even a good one) for
    $2 - $3 - well worth the investment and the extra 30 seconds to set it up - much better video quality. It's near impossible to see the torque wrench gauge from the back, unless you have a clicker, but still wondering how you got the torque right on the oil filter.

      Thanks for letting everyone know your thoughts.. Note the video is not for rich people. Just people trying to keep cheap motoring 👍

      @@jonyr1TT Good morning. I have to remark that this video is five years old. I started making videos maybe seven - eight years ago. The first thing people complained about was the camera moving around so much. I learned very quickly to use a tripod. I'm sure you've resolved that by now.
      Cheap motoring is my central theme. I do all of my own (DIY) mechanic work, except for tire changes and things I can't do on my own. Over the years, I've gathered a huge collection of tools, so I have the torque wrenches.
      We also have the advantage of Harbor Freight Tools - amazingly cheap tools from China. I don't know if you have it there, but after my bike (bicycle) ride this morning, I'll head over there. They have a very handy oil filter removal tool, which can be used with 3/8ths drive ratchet for $10.
      I bought this 1991 Honda CBR1000F with all the cowls removed (with all the paint stripped off), so I still don't know quite how they all go back on. But I'm pretty sure that, even if you got the oil filter off without taking the cowls off, you'd still have to remove the cowls to get it out. On the other hand, I got this bike for $500. For another $1500, I could have bought one that's running and has all the parts.
      The former owner says "it ran great... 15 years ago when I parked it."

      Thanks dude. Good luck with the cbr1000f. I'm having a nightmare with mine. 👍

    • @RobertMertensPhD
      @RobertMertensPhD Před rokem +1

      @@jonyr1TT I'm beginning to wonder if my nightmare has just begun. That cheap tool from Harbor Freight didn't work, so I'll be taking that one back. I used a large set of battery pliers to remove the old filter, and then I had to guess at what 7 ft-lbs of torque might be - with those same battery pliers. Hopefully it won't fall out.

    well done for leaving the blooper in, I know i wouldn't. lol
    was that the sump plug you took out of the dirty oil and threw down?? I actually thought the dog tipped it over and got a boot up the arse. I'm glad it wasn't.
    could I ask, why all the speed braces, mainly just for decoration.
    anyoldhoo, great video, thoroughly enjoyed it. 😀 👍 👍 👍

      i wouldn't recommend it. as it can wash away sealant on some joints causing leaks

    Seriously. You need a oil wrench tool. www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/SCA-Oil-Filter-Wrench-Adjustable/291474. This is an Australian supplier. I use this on my CBR1000F. Put it through the front with an extension and job done.
