I loved it! And I know exactly how it feels too! I started playing by ear when I was 9 years old, played my first song in Sunday school, after services I snuck back and played for an hour, nobody even realized I was gone lol. That's a gift that keeps on giving. So many incredible memories based around a piano or keyboard, even made some awesome friends over the years who wanted me to teach them how to play. This vid reminds me of a time I was deployed to Scotland, Cultybraggon base. They didn't have any places to rent keyboards, so I asked the guard at the gate, think it was Simon or Peter, and he said meet me here after lunch. He brought me to the town just outside the base and he let me into the Town Meeting Hall, he had a key, they had an old piano. I played for about 3 hours straight and when I was done I caught a bit of a fright when 15 people started applauding behind me, they snuck in so quietly and stood there for 2 or 3 hours not making a peep. Not bad for only 2 weeks of lessons lol. I got an award once from a Post Cmd Sgt Major because of a keyboard indirectly, for helping a young Bosnian boy take his mind off of the devastating attacks in his country, having to leave his home, losing his friends, and his dad healing up in the hospital after losing a leg. He had to leave his keyboard behind. I couldn't find a keyboard for us to play, but on my day off when everyone else were taking day trips to France, I took him bowling for the day on base. My dad taught me to play the Hawaiian Wedding Song and a friend of mine in the Army asked me to play at his wedding, we were stationed in Hawaii. So many many more beautiful memories. Thank you Dad and Mom!
Violin player here. Grew up in a musical house, piano too. Great appreciation for all things musical. Young fellow, you are a national treasure. I know I'll be watching for you. Perhaps a CD?
I played violin from age 8 to 11. I quit taking lessons when my instructor told me I would have to practice 6 hours a day after school. I thought about it and came to the conclusuon that I would never have time to play with my friends. I quit. I hated quiting but I could not continue if all of my time was going to be taken up practicing. 😢
Hey there, I’ve played violin since I was 3 and I’m 22 now. I wouldn’t say I’m professional or anything but I’m decent enough to play in small orchestras and in pit orchestras for musicals. And I did not practice for 6 hours a day. That is complete baloney. As my teacher would say, it’s not how much or for how long you practice, it’s HOW you practice. You can spend a lot of time on something and not see improvement if you don’t break it down and work on it in tiny steps. I would practice about half an hour to an hour a day, and I found that much more helpful than trying to push for more. Plus, the important thing is finding enjoyment in the instrument. If you’re that heartbroken about giving it up, that means you genuinely wanted to play it. My advice would be to find a different teacher (I went through three in my life), and start small. It’s not too late to come back to it if you really want to.
