    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

The subject 'philosophy of mind' is dead ended. About time someone said it and further acknowledged it. Vedanta holds the key to reviving the dead ended subject. Swamiji is on the mark here. Not only on the mark but also lighting the way out of the cul-de-sac. Consciousness is not two!

    Namaste...
What a crisp and sharp presentation.
Of the 5 Qs of modern western philosophy, 4 are directly related to consciousness - free will, I, knowledge, death.
In Advaita the answer to all 3 questions of philosophy - ontology, epistemology, axiology - is the one brahman. Can be described separately as sat, chit, anandam, but it reality it is only one satchidanandam.
There is an explanation gap of how the jump is made from the electrical signals in brain to the experiences of sensations. The problem is material reductionism, the uncalled need to reduce the subjet into an object to study it objectively. Advaita is fine with objective study of objects, but don’t complain if this method breaks down when studying The Subject, = Consciousness.
AI can solve the most complex tasks of creativity, decision making etc., but cannot solve the simplest self evident problem of consciousness, why? It is not programmed with the First Person Experience, and it wont be, unless tthere is a way to install some sort of devide to mimic the reflected consciousness of sentient beings,. Till now AI is not sentient in the vedantic meaning.
    Consciousness + Object = Experience.
If Object = 0, then Consciousness = Experience. When you turn attention away from the world, prapanchakara vritti will become brahmakara vritti.
David Chalmers - calls Vyavaharika as Reality and after merging Pratibhasika and Vyavakarika, he calls it Reality+.
In Vedanta, Paramarthika is Reality and Paramarthika + Vyavaharika + Pratibhasika = Reality+.

Commend you on your progress, but IMHO, non duality is not "a form of oriental idealism". It is Advaitam = "One without a second".
Words evoke meanings, allusions, and your usage of the word Idealism has the potential to confuse a lot of people who do not know non duality and wants to know, and they start on the wrong impression.

    1. Cons is not brain
    2. Cons is not mind
    3. Cons is not an object
    I can easily understand this.
But so far, up to now, experientially I donot really experientially understand the:
    4th. Cons is not many
    5th. Cons is not two
Although intuitively i know this is it. So I need to learn more and more, habituate/familiarize myself more and more with this recognition of brahman, dharmakaya, etc that has been tasted before even in split second 🙏🙏🙏

Wow what a beautiful concept! It's very interesting. Also I have a question. two questions to be precise. If pure consciousness (bromho) is god himself and thus, is beyond all that we perceive through our sense organs, including our thoughts, feelings, desires, sufferings, lust etc. ,then why does god respond to his devotees? Even someone without 'REALIZATION', may be an average house holder working a 9 to 5 job, gets his wishes full filled if he really prays for them to god. So if God is beyond all our petty desires, wants, and sufferings, why does he feel the need to be kind? He can be in his own bliss and not be concerned about what human beings are asking, as they are nothing but a manifestation of BROMHO(god himself).
If the conclusion of the above question is: God is kind (which all of us already believe), then my next question is, why some people are born with emerald eyes, shiny hair, glowing skin, perfect genetics, and a rich family, while others, not even with proper hands or feet !? If God is kind, just, merciful and all those adjectives, then why does he discriminate between his creations? To some, he gives perfect health, wealth, luck, love etc, while others are born with under-developed lungs/brain/nervous system, destined to die at a certain age. What about the parents of such a child? What about their sufferings? Are they supposed to get rid of their desire to be parents or should they discard a retarded child after he is born? Their minds would always be focused on their child's special needs, while knowing the fact that the child is gonna die at a certain age. There is so much suffering you see. How will people focus on God? So my question again, why does God discriminate like this between his beloved children?

My argument is this, upon ageing of the body the brain too ages because it is the part of body. Upon ageing of the brain we face shortage of memory, talking, seeing, hearing etc. But the consciousness illumining all this never changes. It goes on illumining. It is not like that its illumination get dimmer and dimmer by the ageing of the brain. Therefore, it is proved that consciousness is not a product of the brain.

The other day I offered to Swami Rham Dev and then took back the offer some few days later to weight train with him for Yogic Power increase. Because the Swami teaches so many lessons in an online format he is contacted by the integral capabilities and ongoing capacities of the yogic realm. That is why I offered; I can see him having to struggle with some things which weight training improves upon.
Reality plus! It's actually reality minus. Probably how the Swami, and I can see him, has struggle which I am able to observe. Reality plus a.i. and v.r.. That's reality plus. Conquistadors in space ships. That's where reality plus is taking us. I mean; taking me there. On a space ship journey with Galactic Conquistadors. I am not already insane. Swami Svarpiyananda has known his Japas for years by now. He binds his lessons to the japa. Which as a group practice seems to be quantifiable most efficiently in Chakra scale. Japas and chakras. Tapas is what karma has created for activity amongst others. Creation is not causation. Japas exists in your mandala. Tapas exists in your karma.
No more energy tapping of Tantra. Not in chakra mandala bind. This is Japas, the limits. The boundaries , tapas; this border land.

Practicing yoga with only your mind upon side body. You will likely lose some of the desire to practice single nostril breathing. You see , begin to understand the body is bound. Binded. I know the group practice works well. Sometimes, the body will learn, create a new filter, due to group practice. Try the abstinence of group single nostril practice. Just for whatever, a little while or something.

It is allowed for a Ramakrishna monk or sanyasi to have addictions like tobacco? If not. Why did Vivekananda was a heavy tobacco user if he was free from attachments or not? Is using tobacco a pleasure seeking activity or not?

    • @sumitdutta7043
      @sumitdutta7043 Před měsícem +5

Your question already took the following assumption for granted:
Swami Vivekananda was addicted to tobacco.
      So how can we answer?
If you are assuming this thing by reading some X, Y and Z author then again you are in no position to ask something like this ?
You can only ask this question if you have read the following:
Biography of Swami Vivekananda by his Eastern and Western Desciples.
One poplular Biography I am forgetting the name is in Bengali.
      Now only you can ask.
Now coming back to the question, no monk in the world is allowed to have addictions😅. That applies for Ramkrishna Mission monks too.
The truly enlightened person(Vijnāni) is beyond good or bad it doesn't apply to them whether he takes tobacco or cigarette or any other stuff.
Vijnānis like Ishwarkotis and avataars are not bound of such laws. Swami Vivekananda is considered as one of the saptrīshis also one of the 4 sanat-sanatana brothers. There consciousness already dwells in the Infinity, they have to try hard to keep there mind in this world, in order to doing so they can do something to attach them in this world.
E.g. Shri Ramkrishna used to like fish, sweets etc.
Swami Vivekananda did this whole Rājasic work of awakening India from tamas. Sometimes he was angry but his anger was for the benefit for us the humans.
Swami Bramhanananda was forced to play cards in later years of his life by his desciples otherwise his mind won't stick in this world.
Also, Shri Ramkrishna said about Vivekananda that he was so pure that if he take beef/pork then also it won't make a dint to his purity.
Have you heard about Nisarga Dutt he use to make and take bidis but he was considered enlightenend in his life time.
What you are understanding by enlightened/mukti is very limited idea probably because of you Vaishnava or AryaSamaj leanings.
I and You only can become addicted even after learning Swami Vivekananda, the monk of the mission are not addicted they know the meaning not here to look for propoganda out of jealousy(if you are doing so).

      @anupamsircar111 Před měsícem +1

This is a very pertinent question for beginners. Once you advance in the path of advaita vedanta, you will understand what this lecture was all about: consciousness is not two. In other words, there is only consciousness and nothing else. Once you know this, you will become an enlightened person and also understand that you are beyond cause and effect, good and evil, joy and sorrow, and a smoker and a non-smoker.
Robert Adams says it beautifully: "The body has come here to do some things. You have nothing to do with it."
Sri Ramakrishna died of throat cancer, and it was very painful. Does that mean he was not enlightened? No, it simply reverts to "The body has come here to do some things. You have nothing to do with it."
