Thanks for another great lecture Nick. I've watched all of your videos and enjoy them all. This is my first time posting a comment in the months since I started watching your videos. Just want to encourage you to keep up the good work.
Nick can you do a lecture/video in which you give an overview of different styles? I think not every double digit kyu player is familiar with all the different categories of style. Along the same lines could you trace a style throughout history? Your description of Kobayashi's style reminded me of Stone Buddha ... are they really similar? Was Kobayashi really good with white too? PS: A generation older, Takagawa Kaku seems to have been similar in style to Kobayashi and Lee Changho (that is based on reading their page on sensei's library).
Actually, there are only two kind of styles: conservative and aggressive. Conservative players tend to be more territorial and solid and prefer to simplify situations. When you watch them playing, you would feel like the board becoming smaller because of less uncertainty. Players like LeeChangho, Kobayashi, Chochikun, ParkJunghwan are in this category. Aggressive players tend to be more flexible and better at dealing with complicated situations. They take attacking opponents' weak groups in the first place instead of encircling territory. Players such as Go Seigen, Takemiya, LeeSedol, Kejie, Guli are more like this style.
+jejeakle Assuming I understand your question correctly: It's usually not considered a good idea to (closely) approch low. The diagonal is possible but a pincer is much more common. One space low pincer should lead to fairly good development of the "kobayashi 'ed area".
+The Integral do you mean what does a Dan rank mean? It's about the same as a black belt in martial arts. First Dan is the rank right after first Kyu. Nick Sibicky is an AGA 4-Dan.
Yeah dan, *slap*
I really want to see a video about Cho Chikun.
one of the all-time greats
I am a beginner. But I could nevertheless enjoy this complex game. Good lecture!

OK, I was gonna complain but... YEY! A lecture board vid with the gang! You are forgiven. And liked etc. etc.
I've been trying to find this intro song for ages, but I can't find it. Can you tell me what it is?
In the kobayashi opening, if the opponent low approaches, does the shuzaku diagonal go well with it?

Thank you for the great lecture as usual. Also, may I ask what's the ranking of Dan?

+Lunar Dusk I think he was asking about the audience member
Oh, Dan the guy? I think he once said he's 5 kyu, but I could be mistaken.
+Lunar Dusk Yes I mean the audience member. Thank you both for your reply.
Nick mentioned in a video once that he is 2 dan on KGS. I have no idea what video it was, but Nick said it once.
Star Trek!
play akin to ogata 9 dan
Why is the letter column missing the i?
The same reason airline seat numbering misses it. It looks too much like "l" .
How? You ether use capital letters so you get L,I,J or you use lowercase letters and get l,i,j. Both sets are perfectly distinguishable in my opinion.
Nonethless, that's the reason why. Go boards and airline seats don't use I.

There is an awful lot of noise in this one. It is hard to understand how a student can be that full of himself.
