    Take a look at one of the most scenic railroad locations in Oregon: The Oregon Trunk ran by the BNSF and jointly built by the GN, NP, and SP&S.
    1ST Train
    -Trout Creek 00:10
    -Deschutes River 02:57
    2ND Train
    -Deschutes River (Sherar's Bridge) 05:29
    -South Jct./ Trout Creek 09:40
    3RD Train
    -Crooked River Gorge 14:59
    -Madras Trestle 16:07
    I've filmed some of these areas in the past but I'll always keep coming back to the Trunk to film new areas. Most of my love for the Oregon Trunk is in the 80 miles the railroad parallels the Deschutes River Canyon. This canyon is one of my all time favorite locations to pace and film trains from the drone.
    All footage taken from a DJI Phantom 4 Pro.

    I had no idea that Oregon looked like this. All that lava that covered the region in hundreds of feet deep. I think it's amazing. I live in northern Wisconsin, the ice age scraped the land down to bedrock not much for hills, curves, or tunnels. Thanks!

    The blue color of that river is amazing....a lot better than the mud-colored water we have out here

    Very enjoyable, plus as a modeler I liked the views of bridges and trestles.

      Well thanks very much! I feel the same about it. I want to provide videos to people of places seen in the aerial view of a drone and with a cinematic essence.

What's with the critisism of the audio? Have PPL not discovered their volume controls on their computers? Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

    Thank you for your video work in remote or inaccessible regions of western states. One slight criticism: that music track got old and annoying fast.
    As a less than passionate person about trains I watch your videos for the scenery and the often amazing engineering works our ancestors created. Wow those cuts in the side of rock ridges for the track bed and those trestles and bridges, and done mostly with private capital. I'll take the wooded Feather River canyon video over this arid treeless place.

    Videographer of the year.
    You should shoot the river in its 4 seasons and create a composite, trains or no trains.

  • @jerrysmith1929
    @jerrysmith1929 Před 5 lety +2

    More excellent photography! If I have any criticism it is the music. I feel the the driving character is well suited to the subject. However, because of the length of the video it became monotonous and a bit annoying for me. Just a few slight shifts would have been appreciated. I liked the choice of music, but it just became too repetitive.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  Před 5 lety

      I had a real had time with the music this go around because of the video length. This was uploaded on here for about a week before I decided to release it because I wasn't sure if I was going to redo it. The longer time went on the more I didn't care about it so much.

  • @tmr626
    @tmr626 Před 4 lety

    Hey Dan, it can't get much better than that! I noticed that your drone follows the train a long distance. Did you also follow the train in the back of a
    half ton truck on those paved valley roads below to get the best shots?

  • @N-Scale

      Good point. The view is amazing and relaxing but you need to withstand the music.
      Dan needs to re-edit this video with new music.
      The image is just perfect. Outstanding.

      @Southwest_923WR Před 2 lety

      I disagree onn this.
      The music adds to the illusion of travel, specially on this video.
      You all have a choice of volume control.
      Let the man do his thing, you don't like, turn volume down.
      Easy as that.

  • @trainerfjk6269
    @trainerfjk6269 Před 5 lety

    Really, really enjoyed the video. In some of the scenes it appears there was quite a lot of wind; so the control was excellent. I wish there was a way your video could show its compass heading; although to tell north south east west, I relied on the looking which was the river was flowing ;) (I also opened googlemaps to help orient the video) I also have to comment: why did BNSF's trainmaster put a centerbeam as the first car after the locomotive?? My guess, not that long a train.

      Everything is CTC except Lava siding to Chemult at this point. I don't know how much upgrading to sidings they have done. I do know they even removed some that used to be used but aren't CTC now. Between Wishram and Bend they only have 6 sidings that are active with CTC so traffic is limited for that reason alone.
