- Sir William has been molting about a week now. I thought I would give you all a glimpse into what he looks like during this time. He molts just once a year, but its not supposed to happen until June! It's only March! PLEASE join our parrot family on Instagram! @Parrot_Sir_William
Argh! I wanna scratch it off so bad T-T
me too
He's molting again :) I was thinking about filming a quick video of me breaking them.
YouOU DONT
I have a bird and I sometimes do that 😟😟😟 I try not to
@@jaydenkanuch2272 if he likes it then good it's a great bonding experience
I'm so glad everyone feels the same as me. GET IT OFF ! HAHA
He's so cute! I want to preen all those feathers. It seems every bird person has a nickname for pin feathers, my mom and I call them crunchies
awe crunchies! cute! yeah I've always called them "spikes" or "spikies" because they look and feel like spikes lol. I actually enjoy breaking them all open. It's kinda relaxing to me hahaah
scott torres. I call them sticks
When they first pop out, they're sprouts. 🌱
I say my little green man has "prickle head"
OH YEAH I WANNA PREEN HIS HEAD
didnt realize how terrible the coloring is in this one! sorry guys!
I can’t sleep because i keep thinking about pin feathers.
Same
ahhhh like it feels weird seeing them
@@rubemgonzalez2742y'all must be trypophobic like me
This video ending without preening literally made me angry 😂 Please do a video showing the preening process!
Wow! He's so lucky to have you as a helper! You can see how much balance, concentration and contortion is needed when they preen those head spikies!! 💚💚❤️❤️😘😘
I have the urge to scratch his new feathers
this rebel parrots molting when its not the time
mom: lets see!
birb: [stomach noise]
This triggered my trypophobia for some reason.
he's muttering under his breath
Is it me or is it so freaking satisfying like it makes me disgusted
Aww what a handsome boy. Not sure how I got to this video lol
Oh my god I have never seen that many pin feathers, much less all concentrated in one area!
Such a cute birdie ❤ bless you birdie if I'm not wrong you can preen the pin feathers that are ready
He not moulting he just got some fresh braids
Awwww so pretty💙
Omg - I could DIE for those pins!!!
Remember kids, it's not pronounced birdy it's bowdy
So beautiful
Misting softens and helps w itch
holy crap...! I can't take my eyes off those pins! Ive NEVER seen such an intense growth pattern--I mean his feathers are like those of a baby bird who is feathering out for the very first time! So, are you saying that this guys lost ALL his head feathers at once...? In other words, he was bald for a period??? This seems so atypical. Isn't it the worst possible time for him to have to endure a beak trim at the vet, btw? Since he's presently so stressed from this massive moult...?
Abe Silverbush he's fine 😀
Nutrional defiencies can cause. Not familiar w ringneck or alexandrines though
Omg. Such a relief. I was so worried as I'm new in this. My parrot, whose name is Jhontu is also going through this moulting period. Thanks for sharing.
that little noise he makes a couple times in the beginning spread about that sound like “huh?“ and “ya” “yea” are so cute 🥰 what type of bird is he, I assume a ring-necked parakeet because of his ring marking ? 🤗 hope all is well with you and your buddy bird! How old was he when you filmed this video
Thats a big molt poor thing, glad he looks really healthy ❤
Wish my hair grew that abundantly.
I can only think of how excited atisutori would be
I feel bad for that bird. I do not understand why she did not undo some of the pinfeathers that were ready. That bird must have been very uncomfortable
It is so cute
I have a question my macaw is molting right now and she lets me help her so I break the tops off is that all I’m supposed to do like will the casing around them come off in time?
Hi thanks for your comment! Yes that is ok - this is how I have to preen my Queenie. She only lets me break the tips and then if I get closer to the roots she gets upset. They WILL break off eventually on their own or with help from toys/cages as the bird scratches itself. If you can get deeper than the tips, do so. If not, it's fine! It will just take a little longer thats all but yes they will eventually flake off!!!
You are so lucky to be able to scratch his head like that. I would love to have birdie that lets me do that to a head pin feather . I just love it! Great video!
How long to the pin feathers last ?
I’m just curious, has your Alex always loved being patted like that? Because mine is quite tamed and bonded but temperamental/scared when it comes to pats, loves kisses and talking but this is something I really want to encourage, any ideas? He’s 2 and getting his ring which looks close to being complete
The more time you spend with him the more he will trust you being "just part of the flock". Not just time but quality time, little steps, the sooner the better! My baby "Bob" will even nap with me afternoons, we play eye games all the time to see who falls asleep first???? Lol. Birds are curious and inquisitive, a great training tool. I always look at their natural character and excel on that!
Thank God! I just got a bird and I thought he was biting off feathers but they were on his head and I got confused 😵
Before I had a bird this probably wouldve grossed me out
But present me is now filled with the intense rage and need to scratch that *O F F*
I like how she sounds like mable at the start
What food you gave him...how new hair came...pls give suggestion
Nice videos.
0:30 big birdie
Does molting itch like it does when you get a sunburn? if it does, I could see why he'd be grumpy.
yes it is very, very itchy for them.
It should be removed or just let it be there?
You explained your parrot usually molts in June, but seeing as you filmed him in March and he's molting, you believe his body got confused bc of an injury to his tail feather, hence the early molting. Does that mean he'll molt again in June, yes or no? Or, is he going to molt in June, 2024? Please explain if you can. Thank you.
Hi I have a question so my budgie is going thru a moult right now and we had an accident an accidentally pulled out his tail feathers, almost everything is gone I checked no blood no swelling he’s good just like before however does this mean that his tail will begin to grow next moult since he’s already half way thru this one? Thanks and please don’t violate me about his tail it was a complete accident and I feel so bad but on the brighter side it could’ve been so much worse!
JarParz thanks yeah his tail grew in 5 weeks! But I have another question, he is at the end of his moult right now but why did he moult right after his previous moult?
i have a quaker and he's full of pin feather. she doesn't let me pet her because it hurts and well my fingers are big to clean them on by one
What age are they start molting? Mine is 9 months old I have a conure jenday
That made me so uncomfortable. Idkw it just felt weird
Which food u r giving to parrot
Oh my Gosh
I need to see a preening video of this
That's alot of pin feathers
Wow, I have two parrots, and I never seen one of them molt as bad as William... Does William have this every molt?
Unfortunately, yes !!
Kiwi lllt hi! Is it normal for parrots to molt? Or should I take him to the vet or do something to help my quaker?
@@Anhel0410 It's very normal.
Our chickens look a bit like that right now.but it's like their whole neck and feathers
Quick question for you. What happens if you pick at the molting feathers? I did that with my bird, and she just bit me.
Ciara Obrien if the feathers aren't ready, you can cause damage to the roots and extreme discomfort for the bird. If your bird wont allow you to preen them, then they must not be ready OR the bird simply does not like that attention. It happens! If ever your really concerned about your birds feathers, see a vet asap!! Another way for birds to preen without help from humans is toys. They can rub their new feathers on toys and break them open and a lot of birds prefer that because they are in control
Mizzy's Parrots Thanks!
How come you have to take him to the vet for molting are they not supposed to be preened by like you?
Marilyn Simmons Thanks for your comment! I don't take him to the vet for molting. He is seen by a vet regularly because of his overgrown beak. He has an infection causing it to grow like crazy. I always preen him myself, I did not show that in this video because I had no clue people would enjoy watching that!!! This was mainly a video to show up close what it looks like. And then i started receiving comments asking me to show me preening him so from now on I will add those videos! I did one recently.
SCRATCH THOSE IMMEDIATELY
How to treatment??? My bird age 3months
If the feathers are ready why didn't you break the quills and preen your bird? I hear that's what flock mates do for each other in the wild, especially for those hard-to-reach places.
I did! I always preen my babies. I didn't know that so many people would be interested in watching that part. But I already plan on making a video next year when he molts again :D
+Mizzy's Parrots yes please!! Very interested and very educational. We're learning SO much new info about companion parrots it's changing the way we interact and treat our feathered companions.
Many have the intelligence of a 4-year old 😱
Thanks for sharing !
I have one too
what does molting mean???
This is fucking up my trypophobia
Oh my god that's horrific
Those are just pin feathers, they are temporary, they are developing. I have never seen so many pin feathers in one area!!!
If i don't cut there pin feathers should they get trouble?
everyday craft 30 They normally can get them off themselves, however certain ones are hard to reach and you should help them. Its always a good idea to help them anyway regardless. In the wild, birds rely on other birds to help them preen. Domesticated birds dont always have that and they need some help from you!!!
Why does he have so many on his head?
Partial 🌵 parrot.
(Since everyone has a word for pin feathers, I think I'll share mine) I call it "Bird Acne"
i have indian ring neck parrot he has a problem with his feathers he broke his feathers wing all of them and he has no tail at first i tough its parrot thing and i tough the feathers will grow back but it never did its have been like this over more than a year im really sad i always see a parrots like my parrot look very good with long tail and wing that make me very sad 😢 what should i do ?
JaMaL SA you need to see a vet ASAP!!!!
Why so many in one spot?
How can you allow your bird to have so many pin feathers. You should have done some of his pin feathers for him.
I did
How did you get him so tame!
Gosh so jealous
Haha, 20 years of practice I guess ;) No actually he's only calm like this for me. Anyone else he would rip their fingers off!!
I have had mine for 11 years she's really tame but the small one (4 years) is so afraid if hands and always bites.
But i still work with her everyday
@@jode3922 Have you hand tamed her yet?
What kind of bird
I have a budgie and he started molting. I have tripophobia...
Why don't you preen them
What is the age of this cutie bird😊🐦
24
I read that if you touch pin feathers it hurts them
Only if they aren't ready to break :) dark grey means they arent ready and will be painful to touch. Light grey means they need to break open. In the wild, parrots preen each other to get rid of their pins. Domesticated parrots need the help of their owner, or another bird in the home. Sometimes even toys help them to break open! My sir william here LOVES his pin head being scratched and massaged.
I want to prune it so badddddd 😭😭😭😭
It looks like it itches so bad
Oh godddd why does this make me so itchy
Trypophobia
I wanna scratch it
Itchy spikes
ahhhhh why so many lol
I ask for help with removal! William is lovely I want to helpful.
my bird is molting and that the only time she lets me touch her to help her out .--.
Some of the pin feathers should have been done
They were
Í wanna scratch them all
i don't feel bad why birds molt
How the heck do you prune a bird? How AND why would you break open the feather for them???
Hedgeparrot
PLUCK IT
SPSulte 89 no then the head will br bald. And do you even know what these feathers is? It is new feathers growing
S1ck3d Intros. Oh
SPSulte 89 ;D
S1ck3d Intros That’s not correct at all.
HildeChristina k sorry
My face is feeling weird seeing the pins ughhh i wanna rub them its bugging me SO MUCH especially the thumbnail aaaa noooo
Trypophobia
Why do birds molt? I've never owned a bird, so I know very little ._.
mm
My ptsd is killing me I want to scritche so much
There are too many pin feathers
Most frustrating video of all time! OMG scratch them off!!!
I did
Plz don't touch the pin feathers on his head ,it hurts them a lot.
That isn’t true they really like it when you smooth them as long as it’s in the direction they should be going if you decide to rub the sheath off
It doesn't hurt. Birds in the wild will allow their mates to pick their pin feathers. Doing this to your pet bird is close to the same idea. If he was in pain he wouldn't have sat there so long and content.
Sausage fingers
This video is triggering me
Eww take it out!
Why do that pin feathers come????
There are too many pin feathers
