- You asked for it - here it is :) Sir William being preened and massaged! *He would not sit long enough for me to break open each one and since they were so close to his nose, it was making him upset when I touched the roots. I will make another preening video this coming summer when he goes through his major molt!*
Thanks so much for all the love, support, and comments. Please subscribe if you haven't already. You can also check out our Instagram at Parrot_Sir_William !!
Take a small toothbrush and gently brush the dead spikes away. My parrot loves that!
that is genius! that sounds way more gentle than rolling the pins between two fingers
My freaking heart exploded thank you
Maybe moisten it with some warm or cool water before hand to be less harsh too?
See my reply to jar parz. Birds, especially parrots, love the human touch and interaction! My parrots love the hair dryer after a good soaking bath! Your brushing feels good to them as long as you don't brush the pin in any direction other than the one in which it is growing. They also recognize tone and feeling in your voice, so always be loving, they will reward you in kind!
My parrot loves when we touch her with a finger but hates when touch her with other things.....
I've never seen such a large amount of pin feathers concentrated in one spot.
Same not the case with my bird it's scattered spots of spikes
Same
its probably because the feathers that were in the same place before were all plucked at the same time in some way
Reb You should see what is growing all over them!
What r pin feathers?
some good advice for preening birds if their pin feathers are ready but still sensitive: giving them a little spritz with warm water helps to loosen the shells, and gently brushing them with a clean mascara brush or toothbrush seems to work well to break the pins away while being more gentle than human fingers! :)
aaaaaa the feathers are genuinely freaking me out D:
Welp, whaddya do chief?
I want to touch them and quish them.
Welcome, my fellow trypophobic
B Mell ur on crack
Same
Sir William is such a handsome boy!
Shari S thanks!!
ohh my goodness no wonder he gets grumpy during molts, that's a lot of pins in one area! good thing he's got someone to help take care of them ☺️
I love these kind of videos I swear I get relaxed just watching them.
Marilyn Simmons Me too!!!!
Me too
😳 That's a lotta pins! Some not ready to unsheathed though, that's when he gets irritated. When they're ready to sheathe, it's itchy for them and love to be a scritched 😊
Does it itch for him? Do you see him scratching it? All of those in one spot gave me goosebumps.
It itches
Same
that is actually the soft casing that has the new feathers in them. They slowly break off afterwards when the bird picks at them with their beak and talons.
It'll make u itch too. its like fiber glass
When I saw that, my skin started to crawl immensely. Makes me wanna scrape it off myself.
I’ve never seen them that concentrated in one area like that
my tryphobia is tripping out rn 😭😭
SAMEEEEEEE WHY AM I HERE
Omg lol i have tryphobia too this makes me feel weird but its kinda satisfying to watch her preen them out for him XD
Yes
So cute parrot! Looks beautiful!❤❤❤
Sir William: Ma I'm done with preening near my nose it's annoying and I rather tolerate KC than do this!
Intialdragon r hahahahahaha ! Too funny!
WHERE IS OUR SUPER PREENING VIDEO YOU PROMISED!?! IS IT COMING!?! I NEED IT! sorry but this was super satisfying, I couldn't STAND to see all of them all in one place, I'd preen like no tommorow. Please do video during big molt!!
oh to be a cute little parrot having your feathers preened by a caring human
As a bird owner... this is the most satisfying thing iv ever watched 😂😂
Omg his eyes,so tender creature, god bless your birdie :).
Those beautiful ghostly looking eyes !!!! Intriguing!!!!!!!!
i swear down, ever since i hot my cockatiel, every parrot looks like a dinosaur
I was doing this with my bird, and he looked so happy, so i wanted to know if anyone else was doing it. Its really satisfying to do and watch!
Yes I preen my Quaker's head, neck, and cheeks. Truly, it is very satisfying, for both me and my bird. It feels like therapy. 💜
He looks so soft
I love picking mature pin features
First?
Love the vids btw
Can’t wait for my parrotlet to molt so I can do that😂 I find it so satisfying
I do the same with my alexandrines.😍helping preen them is pure heaven. 😊😚
Hes beautiful ❤️
😻😻😻sooo cute
Poor itchy baby
Do all ringnecks get pins in huge clusters like this when they molt? I have four conures and a cockatiel, but none of my birds have ever had a cluster like that-the pins are always spread out over their bodies.
Thank you for this fabulous, high quality video!!! And nice music too!
this made my scalp itch
Loved it
Aw what a sweetie! I bet that spot with all the pin feathers was a bit uncomfortable.
Haha he looks like he successfully treated male pattern baldness
He's so beautiful
Fuji loses all her head feathers when she molts haha
I can tell just by looking into his white irises how smart he is. He is at least as smart as a trigger fish. Tell him I said he's a bird-brain but I like him anyway..
Am I the only one that collects my birds feathers when they molt? For like… artsy craftsy stuff? …. I’m currently collecting some to redo an old dream catcher I have 😅
Seeing this makes my head itch😬
So nice😍
I like this kind of video
Beatiful
My blue fronted Amazon loves me squeezing his pin feathers to get them free. Sir William is such a handsome dude.
he got a fresh new hair cut
so cute
A nice shower or bath, I use my tub and sprayer nozzle. It always eases a molt! He may have lost feathers there all at once? He clearly loves that! Rio my 32 y/o B&G macaw will close her eyes and purr, that characteristic macaw purr! After a bath they come unglued this time of year. Parrots molt twice a year spring into summer and fall into winter. They typically molt a few feathers here and another there but not all at once. I notice my birds start the body feather molt first, spreading to head and neck while a few tail and wing feathers come out a a time. Water helps facilitate the keratin sheath removal once the pin feathers emerge and grow to length and size they will flake off easily. It’s a good bonding ritual you can have with your bird when you build trust.
Ring necks are so pretty but the eye pinning spooks me lol.
LOVE
I love how I'm seeing people make comments on here that dont even know about birds like you can have a bird fit around the house and be fine if the bird gets fat that's your fault for not feeding it right and giving it the attention it needs to thrive do your research guys before attacking people in comment sections
It’s honestly satisfying to preen a parrot but kinda annoying when they’re constantly moving although they enjoy it
love it when birds get their dreadlocks
Locs.
Birds do love that prob why my grey and Meyers actually like me
What about using a hard toothbrush on his head as a brush? Maybe he would enjoy that, and at the same time, it could help remove the pins.
How come he has a whole bunch in one area ? Because I always thought during a molt that they never should have a bald area.
Marilyn Simmons it seems like all birds are different. Sir William has always had one big molt each year and nothing more. Meanwhile, my other birds molt throughout the whole year, just a few feathers at at a time so its barely noticeable. Sir William here had a vet visit a few years ago while he was molting and the vet said all his feathers were healthy so I'm not worried :)
Mizzy's Parrots ok thanks for answering my question and he is a very beautiful bird.
My baby lovebird looks like he has pimple atm bcoz of the new feathers growing in at his cheeks
I call him my moody tween :D
How do I help my baby Cockatiel from helping for the pin feathers?
Is this what heaven looks like?
Is it the new feather coming from that bcoz my parrot also started getting the pin feathers. So plzz can you explain me what it is ? Plzz
Please please make another preening video ❤
I love his name
My ring neck parrot is molting but he won’t let me preen him. He’s scared of me
I have a question,
What's pin feather? I don't own a bird, so I don't really know what's a pin feather.
Awwww si cutee
I just oddly wish i could pull them all right off
same here bro
Same
pulling them off would hurt the birb tho :(
@@jordyn2470 Right :(
That would make the bird bleed :
It looks satisfying when you crush them
I love u parrot
My IRN’s head looks exactly the same right now!
What happened to his face tho ,why were his feathers like that ?
That dense patch gives he Tryptophobia
My God. My OCD is kicking in 😮. My cockatiels never have that many pin feathers in of free area!
This sort of thing is why it's a good idea to have more than one bird if you keep parrots, so they can preen each other as they would in the wild. Otherwise their pinfeathers can become a problem for them.
So satisfying 😍❤️😍
look at all those pin feathers!!
Is he enjoying it or getting angry?
Poor fella, eventually he’ll get through the molting process
Perhaps you need to use a tweezer to squeeze each one of these pin feathers so the protective shell crumbles out, leaving a new feather. This way, it is much safer for the parrot as well.
Yes yes yes. Our fingers are too big and apply too much pressure and pull than we think this is best option
Please use tweezers
What happened to his beak? Will that heal in its own?
Oh my gosh I never noticed, where are his nares?
So many pins! I wonder why all in that spot?
Lazurkri must have all dropped at the same time, the poor little dude ✨👊🏻 he got to look like Dwayne Johnson up there for a little bit, though
They get pin feathers when new feathers come in, which means he lost a patch of feathers as he was molting, which means there just growing back!
Did he have an accident? That's a lot of pin feathers.
Those pins just do not seem ready. I myself would have waited. I believe the pin coatings would have crumbled apart MUCH more readily if they were truly ready and also that he would very likely sit still for--if not demand--that you remove every single one instead of shying away from your rubbing like he did. I'm sincerely sorry if I hurt your feelings or if I sound like a total jerk BUT I just don't believe those are really ready.
But we wanted to see her break the pins really bad ready or not . For me its like a itch that I really want to scratch. I wanted Mizzy to break them all even without Sir William's cooperation . I would of hold her tight and break them all.
These feathers were ready. They were ALL the same shade of light gray. I wait until there are no more dark gray spots. He was cooperating very well. He was only upset because he doesn't like it when I get that close to his nose. I also dont have sharp or long nails which makes it much harder to break them.
Sensitive I imagine.
No they were not ready. He didn't like it. It was hurting him.
Even when pin feathers are ready, they can still be very sensitive to some birds. Even though he was shying away a little bit, he wasn't biting or showing any signs of extreme discomfort, and kept tilting his head back to ask for more scritches. Some birds just don't respond well to certain areas of their heads or faces, or to human fingers. And that's okay! all birds are different and react differently
cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! na gigigil na ako
Oddly Satisfying
Cute ❤ 0:16
Good
God was drunk when he invented pin feathers.
LORL ( Laugh Out Really Loud)
Some years back the comment section would have been filled with messages like "oh these things triggered my trypophobia"
Ehhh, i would reather get my bird a mate to do their jobs,i see pegions do this all the time and they seem relaxed ❤️
My parrotlet had two pin feathers on the head very close to her eye.. i managed to preen the majority of them but i cant get to the base of it... the base still has this skin left... will preening most of it do? or is it absolute necessity to get it from the base?
It's better to stay away from the base of pin feathers it can really hurt the bird sometimes. The base will eventually dry and fall off
The pin feathers are making me wildly uncomfortable
if theyre darkish, dnt touch them, means theyre still filled with blood
that's uh
that's a coral reef on his head
Are these like dreadlocks but with bird feathers?
*locs.
Pin feathers are extremely extremely sensitive and hurt if they are touched and preened too soon which is why when you were done he backed up and looked at you like WTF YOU DOING MAN?
Hey I have a question that I’m hoping you can answer. I have a Quaker parrot that refuses to let me preen him, whenever I try to he goes to bite me. Do you have any advice on what I should do?
Best route would be to visit a vet but call beforehand. Some vets are more familiar with birds than others but they should be able to help you either way.
Otherwise I recommend holding him securely without harming him, in a position where he can't snap at you.
Hi, I am just seeing this comment now, sorry! Some birds simply do not wish to be preened by humans. This is normal and nothing wrong with it. If he really is not letting you help, then don't. You can misuse your trust with your bird and never get it back! Toys help A LOT. Birds rub against them to scratch. The feathers will break off eventually, if they don't get preened they will just weaken over time when the feather inside grows stronger so they will crack and flake off. I would just make sure he always has toys available and don't force him to let you preen him!
Mizzy's Parrots It’s ok, thank you so much for responding
I wish bird owners were taught more about how massaging them like that is very pleasurable in a very inappropriate way for birds
😍😍😍😍
Thanks to the comments, I found out that I have tryptiphobia... so if you watched this and got goosebumps or shivers..... welcome to the club 👋
Yes my first time watching this and my skin is crawling...
@@MELISSAO2592 I know lol I bet anything that abnormal looking that appears in clusters sets off the skin sprawling as well
It is looks very strange that he has too many pin feathers in one particular spot
unsatisfied that a bunch are left on after the video is over
