You and Vince have really found your groove with your episodes together. I really look forward to them. The skit about the new sets was amazing.
This fact that WoTC does not put a redemption code on their products is a huge statement from them. That statement is loud and clear, and would be, "We never plan on moving to a fully digital format within the foreseeable future." Rest assured to the people out there thinking that WoTC will move all formats to a digital format, during this epidemic and seeing it as the perfect time to do so, will never happen for as long as they can remain within the physical format. The day that they start putting a redemption code on all their products is the day when they plan on moving completely to a digital format. Until they do, they are encouraging the player base to actually leave their homes when possible, and spend some time at an FNM or Pre-Release/Release Tournament.
I think it is a smart move that is taking into consideration people's health. The reason for that is because of people being unhealthy and not being physically active in the information age (i.e. especially during this epidemic). A wise choice on WoTC's part. They can both, make more money doing it this way, and also help to keep their player base a little healthier.
Thanks Professor! I'm thinking about getting a set to use as a sort of Game Night boardgame. Do you have any suggestions on changes to make to balance the four decks against each other and get them to all roughly the same power level? Thanks again!
Thank you very much for your amazing review, Professor. So I understand these decks aren’t balanced to play against each other, and if I use my Allied Fires against my brother’s Cavalcade Charge, I’ll get crushed every time; right? Or is there a chance of winning?
@@memorylapsedm8262 do NOT go to FNM rn. You need to be socially distant which is not possible at FNM. I repeat. Do NOT go to FNM rn. Covid-19 is too dangerous.
Watch them raise the "MSRP" by $5 just for that arena code next year.
And it would be worth every dime...
@@thomasborders6882 Depending on the contents it might not be. They managed to completely botch one deck out of the four and again, decreased the value of all of them this time. Who knows what will happen to the challenger decks that will be released in the future?
I would hate that, I refuse to play Arena(no commander means no play) so for all intents and purposes to me that would be just $5 for a blank card I'll just throw away anyway.
What’s the arena code?
@@thomasborders6882 No.
I think the double-sided adventure tokens are unique.
Don't forget, the """best part of deck building is getting upgrades""" ideology plaguing Wizards currently
I think Golgari Adventure is the cheapest to upgrade? At least pre-rotation.
I really like your anecdote about prices and the current global status of "the Gathering" part of Magic, and keeping the local game store as part of the MTG cycle.
Great video, Professor, gonna be an "A" from me.
Nicholas Baker “best part is upgrades” interesting that they push that, then necessitate upgrading the most boring part of the deck: the mana base. They might have a point if I was just adding vraska, instead of overgrown tombs and temples of malady.
Final Adventure is possibly the deck that suffers the least from Rotation if you properly upgrade it since it revolves around the Adventure mechanic limited to Throne of Eldraine. The win conditions cards are primarily Black (the deck mostly closes games by chaining Smitten Swordsman's adventure with 2-3 clovers on board with couple knights) so going in that direction leaves you with reasonable package till Eldraine rotates out. I believe MTG Goldfish has an article about upgrading it with rotation in mind.
The irony is that the whole point of challenger decks is to be competitive out of the box. If it needs an upgrade, that means it fails its job doesn't it?
@@ohnosmoarlulcatz It's meant to be competitive at the FNM level. They aren't handing you meta lists for $30 lol
@@ohnosmoarlulcatz Competitive on FNM level. They're not exactly Tournament ready but you can play them at FNMs in your local game store and expect certain level of success depending on the level people there play.
Many magic the gathering players ask the question: is there a better CZcams channel that reviews the worth of magic products than TCC?
The answer is no. ( thanks prof for the video )
A+ review
@@JesseJames83 A-... no Arena code...
Uh alpha investments. Less annoying voice.
@@OrionTheAussie True, he has a less annoying voice, but a much more annoying way of presenting videos.
This made my day
I preordered all 4 of them at a discount from my LGS.
i cant wait to see the commander precons review
Let me guess: Cool new cards, fine reprints, disappointing mana base
Short answet: No, you'll be on quarantine until them rotate.
Correct.
Final Adventure is like 90% ELD
@@DHZ-xy5ui Know what, you won't be on quarantine until something rotates btw, it's called joke.
@@namoroke I think it's actually a valid concern since no one really knows for how long this will go on. So if the FNMs start again and you can use the deck for like a month you might not want to buy it. So just pointing out that most of Final Adventure won't rotate out at all :)
@@DHZ-xy5ui Nah, is probably extended this month but I don't think much more, bu the way, yes, I missunderstood your comment, sorry for that. 😅
Thanks for the review. My wife and I have been playing a bunch at home and I'll be hoping to pick a couple of these! Thanks for the video. I've only gotten into Magic over the last few months and your channel has been a great help!
Surprised Prof didn't note that this is the first box design that actually functions as a newbies-deckbox. It fits perfectly the cards fully sleeved and when you take out the left-side spacer it acts as a dice holder. This was something they've been grilled on regarding the Commander packaging. So hopefully they get credit for doing really well on this one.
I would love to see you do an “upgrade” series for these decks! Choosing which cards you’d take out and add to make the decks more enjoyable or competitive. 🤓
I miss playing and trading with my friends... I hope this quarantine ends soon. Thank you for the video, professor!
Remember the government cant stop you from teaching your neighbors how to play! And you can play magic without coming within 6 feet of them.
Hello from late August. It has not ended yet
@@nicholasstavash7880 I'm still alive, you know.
Awesome video! Enjoy your Saturday!💯😍
I will be perfectly honest here: I only bought the decks for singles to my commander decks and only then because it was cheaper than buying the singles and get them shipped to me.
Same
Same but for my Brawl decks
Odds are I will be doing that. For now I just wanted something standard legal to bring to when they're running standard events, which sadly fit into my schedule more than commander ones
I printed them, it didnt cost me much.
@@Kevin-hz1rl found the one Brawl player. How are you? Everything ok in your format?
I enjoy watching your videos occasionally. Thanks for making and sharing them
Prof! Thanks for the videos at this hard time!!!
Thank you for another solid review. Professor! Always good to see you in your dapper attire.

Thankfully both of my local game stores are doing on the phone ordering and curbside pick up. Thanks for the product review!!!! Love your videos prof!!!
Cheers, friend!
Thank you Prof, this helps a lot!
You're very welcome!
"HA, that lousy professor can't grade our products if there's a new one every week! MUAHAHAHA!" -WotC, probably
All they care about is money. They don't care about our wants and needs!
Thank you for this video!!! That red deck looks fun! Can't wait to play at my local store / play group again!!! Stay safe!!!
If they had the code, I wouldn't have cancelled my order...
I bought 3 sets of all...would open at least one of each of them had their been codes 😎
@@supertaft77 why did you buy them then? Re sale?
@@luispolanco5966 been buying cards again for the last 2 years something from every release from bundles to booster boxes and kits.
Same, so disappointing. 😟
If they had the code I would buy at least a couple of them right now
thanks for keeping the great content flowing prof
High quality review
I think i am going to pick the mono red deck + the dark deck, i just love pre-constructed decks they save me a lot of time well and money by being ready to play out of the box! So yeah. Really love your reviews keep them up + i wish everyone good health and may all of you be safe. 🤍
Finally a review of these decks! Ive been waiting
Thanks for the kind word prof. We all need it in this time.
Stay safe Prof. Thank you for the great videos
I love your knowledge (or semblance of knowledge)! I just got back into Magic. My last expansion was Weatherlight.
Your awesome Professor. I enjoy watching your videos and thanks for supporting LGS's.
Thank you, Prof! I'll try to contact my LGS. I was thinking of getting these via Amazon, but, as always, you are right about the support our LGS deserve!
Thanks for all your work Prof!
What happened at 12:36 sold me. Your awesome prof.
Getting that red deck for my friend later. She's gonna kick my butt and I can't wait.
Very informative! Great video!
This has been so helpful thank you so much!!!
Finally, we get creature tokens with our decks
Honestly wizards of the coast dropped the ball on this perfect opportunity to do more for the community it’s pretty sad to see such a big company do something so stupid like oh I don’t know including an online code while everyone is being told to stay home
It's probably more a logistics issue. The print run was probably complete or near complete when this whole mess blew up. Trying to go back and insert codes into all of the already sealed decks would have been a nightmare that would have delayed getting these out.
It's just a guess, but it's my best guess why they wouldn't do that.
@@darthsteel9333 You're completely right. People need to be more understanding of this. The cards are already extremely good value, come with a nice side board and token cards.
@@darthsteel9333 They could have printed the Arena codes when this crisis happened and gave them to the LGS'S to hand out with the purchase
@@Miko_of_the_North exactly, no excuse for their fuckery.
I was decided on RDW and Simic Flash for my wife and I just from the deck lists, and your grading made me more confident! Thanks calling my LGS now. =) great video as always!
i was actually looking into buying one of these. thank you for your review
Thanks again for solid review. I'm probably going to get the middle two based on your suggestion.
More magic videos in the middle of a pandemic XD you sir are a legend. Love you bud. Keep up the good work.
I'm only an occasional player, but I loved the set of matches I played with my 2019 challenger deck! I love this product and I'm happy to see that it's holding up well.
Just got mine in the mail and trying them out right now.
A++ video as always, Prof! Thank you :)
My LGS is Mothership Books and Games in Austin, Tx. Lauren is the owner, and a great person. They are even doing deliveries to your house in the ATX area. We all need to support our LGSes(LGS’s?) during these turbulent times.
Man great video and spot on fornthe decks it's exactly what I thought when i saw the lists
Casual Player over here. Big thanks for the video, it helped me pick out which challenger decks I wanted to buy!
Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
Bought all 4 new, have all 12. Making it sort of MTG boardgame. It's really fun to have those, for my friends, who are long time out of tabletop/MTG altogether.
For a player who is recently got back into mtg and want to play it with some friends not comp. Which of the 4 is your favorite?
So ever since i started playing commander i stopped playing standard. I understand the need for rotation in order to keep the game going but something about it just got under my skin. I might consider the decks for commander pieces in any case. However, as always it is a pleasure to watch your analysis and i think i speak for the entire community when i say it is always appreciated. My group and i have been using cockatrice to maintain our friday nights. We had talked about getting webcams and stands to try and do paper still.
Due to the current pandemic I decided to try a new hobby as a card game enthusiast I’ve decided to pick up the MTG cards I’ve always been intrigued by it. Picked up to booster boxes but I’m completely lost on how to start a build and learning to play . Love your channel subscribed and liked and looking forward to future videos :)
Looking fly as always Prof. :D
Great vid as always, professor!
Thanks prof you helped me decide which ones of these i want.
The way the deck box fell out at the end, “huh?” Throws box away, 😂
i think i'll wait for commanders Deck! great info Prof!
again thanks to you my wife and me are going to look into more mtg stuff. off to talk to our LGS
Thanks prof! Hey you dang ppl make sure to check out dies to removal always a good listen, plus prof and PK preview like 30 products yet to come (prospectively that is)
Thank you for mentioning curbside dropoff and delivery Prof. That's what my store in Denton is doing and it's keeping them going.
Ah, the when Cavalcade was in standard.
I miss those days, though Embercleave is fun, too
Great videos.. They Tutor the very young audience. The new generation of players. Keep up the good work.
My LGS's owner didn't order them for fear of not selling them. I'm checking what his minimum order is so I might get some of the gatherers in on buying out an order for him.
Prof is right, everybody. It's now more important than ever to try to support your LGS. Especially if they already struggle in a small town like ours.
Stay safe and stay healthy, Prof.
And DON'T PANIC.
As someone just starting in Arena it would be great to have codes. I appreciate you pointing it out repeatedly.
We'll be picking these up as usual. My wife and I are very casual players with no deck building skills so we play all the pre con challenger and commander decks against each other. Thanks for the review Prof.
Definitely gonna see if my lgs has these. I mostly play singleton formats, but like you said, the reprint value is pretty sweet and there's a bunch of stuff that I needed more copies of for future decks.
I'm glad I bought the mono red and the simic flash and let my friend buy the other two
wow i saw the cards of each pack before buying and i think i would agree with you. thank you for the video
Great video, prof!
Thank you for so much great Magic the Gathering content
I grabbed a copy of flash of ferocity. Been looking forward to your review of the product, prof
Great video Professor, When i tried the decks out on MTG Arena I found the same kind of play with them. The mono red deck being the best. It’s hard to play the game right now, but with the help of computers and smart phones its possible to set up a game over the net directly with friends. Stay safe Professor.
I really like the allied fires deck personally
Ye it works super well, in my testing it has the highest win rate out of the 4. The manabase could´ve been better (it realy should have at least 1 more shockland and 1 Fabled Passage, it wouldn´t exceed the other decks in value) but the only thing to concearn yourself here is to have an untap land on turn 3 to play somethign, like a clarion or a Narset, and then have another untap one on 4 to play fire, after that no one cares about the mana being tapped or whatever. Also its easy and super cheap to upgrade the lifelands into temples. If you are willing to put some money into it get 4 Teferis and 2 more Kenriths, the manabase cna be the last thing you tweek its not that important in this deck, its all in the 3rd and 4th turns untap lands.
I find Cavalcade Charge to be kinda meh, the lack of embercleave and the cavalcade strategy don´t realy work on current standard anymore. Its not expensive to turn it into an actual Red Deck Wins tough.
great review!
FINALLY!!! I BEEN WAITTING FOR THIS
Wow that was quick
Edit: I though tit was the Ikoria commander decks. I’m an idiot.
Giggity
Can't wait for the commander decks to come out though
Pretty excited about the Ikoria commander decks too. And tits.
im heavily considering picking them up mostly because i have sleeves for cards i want to play with and i do not want to un-sleeve my other decks. thank you for the assessment Prof.
12:35 that was hilarious. Subscribed simply for that. Lol
Love your content
Can't wait for the video about teh Commander decks.
I play commander almost exclusively, thanks for the tips
I was very fond of the Golgari one, so I was quite happy to see it is a good choice. Thanks Prof!
The veraska and two murderous riders are worth the msrp
Awesome content keep it up
The decks seem very interesting ! I dropped out of standard a few years ago but Challenger decks always make me want to grab 1 each with a buddy and battle right on
Splendid Video. Thank you. I Will Go with Flash of Ferocity
Hope you enjoy it!
I got all 4 of them and yes they are pretty good, i am also happy that many cards are in a playset
I'm new to playing MTG. I bought all of these challenger packs from a local game store and been having a lot of fun playing them! So anyone else here that knows nothing about magic. These are definitely great introduction decks! Just began upgrading a few of these.
I have been out of the magic loop for several months and these had me excited to play standard as I always thought Jeskai fires seemed very cool! ... and then I realized it was banned now! That's wild.
ordered all 4 from my local game store in the netherlands for 100€ including delivery last week. a buddy wants to order all 4 as well and we will play against each other via zoom, aiming the camera at the cards on the table. they should arrive either today (saturday) or monday. thanks for the video! stay safe everyone!
Great Video Professor. Final Adventure is my favorite of the four.
I play red deck wins on Arena though.
Teferi makes Lucky Clover + edgewall a sad panda.
I’m getting RDW and Sonic Flash from my LGS next week!
Was really excited about Cavalcade at the Arena FNM... Might pick that one up if my LGS recieved any before SHTF.
Thank you professor for reviewing these based on how well they play out of the box, rather than just on financial value. It's too bad it looks like this year of standard is cancelled, I would have loved to have tried out Final Adventure or Simic Flash.
Had no idea these were coming out. Hopefully I caught this video in time unlike the last Challenger deck video. By the time I caught that one, my LGS only had the white weenie vampire deck. ):
Looking like a refined, swarthy gentleman. Keep up the good work professor!
I was hoping for a more close comparison. Me and my buddies wanted to buy a set of evenly matched decks. Nothing crazy expensive, and when I saw this I was excited. But that D rating breaks my heart. We just want a throwback to the times we weren’t thinking competitive and a 2/2 with no ability was okay to play without being laughed at. :) maybe we will get them from our LGS and do a $20 upgrade and see what happens.
It seems like red is nice like last year's challenger deck. thanks for the review and the price range.
to answer the Q at the end:
I'm in a small play group, in a small town, 40 miles away from any other lgs. We have 6 regular players, and up to 15 gather for PR. We gave up on standard, colectively, around mid-to-late-2018, and we all got into commander, so i highly doubt anyone of us will buy these decks. Around half of us still work, even with this stay-at-home problem, so we went trough EDH discord chanel, and found "whereby" app that works nice for us. Two players have webcams, the rest of us use phones, and we improvised stands for them.
While not the same, as playing in an LGS, and takes more time than a regular game, it is still better to have some fun online, than not play anything for a few months.
...the only draw-back is steal and/or copy effects are a messy thing to play when you're not playing at the same table... and i just built Sakashima the imposter on the last day before state-wide isolation, so, i won't be able to play it, at least not without headache, for a few months xD
Totes getting the simic one! Tried it on mtga and I looooove it
I just started Magic this week. Oddly enough, I've won the games I've used Allied Fires in. But after doing some research, I can see why you need more upgrades to the deck given the current format. Will be looking to buy the Cavalcade of Charge and Flashes of Ferocity to complete the sets.
Thanks for all the videos you make :).. i thino I'll buy all the four of them and just play a few games with friends
