At Rock Hill Farm and Homes we upload new videos at least 3 times per week, about our 20 Acre hobby farm, our John Deere 2038R compact tractor and other equipment, and the businesses that we run.
These businesses include a manufacturing operation, a Christmas tree farm, real estate investing, a lawn care business, and an online retail store. I demonstrate how I am able to use these ventures to earn a good living without a traditional job.
We have some cool toys and always think outside the box on our little homestead so come along for the ride.
You can expect new videos from us every other day, usually around 8 AM.

Great set up man, you should flip the blocks around on the weed eaters so they can’t be stolen. You might need a z930 or something bigger if your going to take on larger lawns. I love my Deeres!
Awesome set up! I agree 2 ea large accounts are a heck of a lot better than 20ea small accounts! It’s almost go time with the grass growing season. The Sthil and Deere is the way to go for lawn maintainence for sure. I really looking forward to watching the QHUT finish up when you can work that in. Have a great week! 👍👍
Thanks for the feedback
New to your channel. Great setup! Love Green Touch. Suggestion- the piece that’s on the attachment for the weed eater that goes into the GT rack, flip it around. Someone can just detach the weed eater attachment and walk off with it.
Thanks for the tip
I have an Echo SRM 225 that I bought 5 years ago. It came with the speed feed head and I absolutely love it. Super quick to load, and never jams.
Thanks for sharing
Nice setup equipment defender need those
Thanks for watching
I have echo trimmers and the speed feed heads on them. I love them. U can wrap up lines really quickly and get back at it.
That’s what everyone keeps telling me. I’ll be trying mine out pretty soon
Thanks for watching and commenting
Love my echo speed head.
Impressive set up Brock. I bought an Echo speed feed head for my Stihl 2 yrs ago and been very happy with it. Instead of having a spare head you can put a length of string in your back pocket and respool the head in seconds. The only negative I found in my research was that if you "bump" the head to advance the string on rocky or rough surfaces a lot the face of the head will wear through and allow a spring underneath it to fly out and the head will be unusable until you replace the face plate and spring. I'm not doing multiple yards so I'm able to "bump" on grass and mine looks just fine. Another thing, on your rear ramp gate, there is a way to mount a spring down low close to the hinge that works as a lift assist. I added one to a trailer for a friend and could send you some pictures if you are interested
Thanks for sharing your experience.
I’m always interested in seeing new solutions
I posted the same video on the rock Hill Farm Facebook page so if you want to share a picture that would be one place you could do it.
I got burnt out on grass cutting. Had 3 trucks and a 7 man crew at one point. Long story short, I sold out to my crew leader and kept the tractor work side. Now I honestly don't even want to cut my neighborhood properties, but I do because they've become good friends. I even turn down big mowing accounts unless I can just bring my 6ft 3pt finish mower to cut them and do the touch up stuff part with my zero turn.
I hear you
Good video. Video on Darwin grip/handle for string trimmer needed. Also might pack a simple 1st aid kit on your rig or in truck- when you need one, you really need one.
The concept of it is great….
The execution of it needs work.
A big manufacture needs to mass produce these and make available cheaper, better more Durable , etc.
Thanks for watching
Technically running a business makes the truck commercial and should have fire extinguisher, first aid, flares, triangles all the fun stuff. Dot would pick him apart if they pulled him over
@@RiverValleyLandscaping modot don’t pull over good old boys like us. I was recommending a 1st aid kit based off my experiences.
I'm going to have to get one of those backpack blowers.
I'd love to run a stander but my knees will never allow that for long term use unfortunately. I run a 48" Kubota zero turn and a 52" front deck Toro golf course mower that's modified for hills and brush cutting. Can't wait for grass season!

Yes indeed! The stand on mower is the way to go. My back loves it😂
Agreed
Congrats on getting 15K subscribers Brock!
Thank you
Good choice for the battery tools. Those flexvolt batteries are worth their weight in gold
I have been happy with them
Thanks for watching
One thing you could do on the trimmer rack is reverse the orientation of the pin on the Kombi attachment. If someone wanted to steal the attachment they could just loosen the thumb screw on the shaft and pull the attachment out. Reversing the orientation would prevent this. Awesome content, I really enjoy this channel! 😊
Thanks for the suggestion and for following along with the channel
Really appreciate it
Run a loaded dual axle trailer up a long hill with a half ton and see if a 3/4 is overkill 😂 Better to have more than enough power than just enough.
Had my JD zero turn 60 inch mower for about 6 years now and it has been great!! I have about 5 1/2 acres at my house to mow. I went with the commercial ZTrac and it has been a great product!
Thanks for sharing
Great video Brock, I agree I'd stick with tractor work, probably more money to be made and less competition.
Yeah, I’ve almost thought about selling this trailer set up but I have so much on my own mowing to do that I want to keep all the equipment
You look like you're set up and ready to rock and roll... you just need the couple of commercial spots to keep the travel down to a minimum.
Travel time is the killer in lawn care
Thanks for watching
Hey man slick set up! I would flip around the mounting point that slides Into the slot to hold the trimmer end of your kombi system. Someone could unscrew and pull off your attachment heads easily. Flip it so if the end is pulled off it can go any where.
Thanks for the tip
@@RockhillfarmYT you're welcome, just wanted to make sure your gear was secure!
Great plan at the end!
Thanks for watching
Great setup subbed
Thanks

I bought the Stihl “speed feed” but after a while, the finger hole on the bottom wore off and was unable to turn it. Went to the Echo brand and won’t change now.
John Deere guy here too with 636 stander and Z930R
Thanks for the videos
Thanks for watching and subscribing. That’s what I keep hearing about the speed feed heads. I only have a few hours on the stihl one
I’ve been in the lawn maintenance business for 37 yrs. Glad to see you left the guards on the weed eaters.
Agreed
Nice setup lil buddy
I do what I can
Nice set up. I am a John Deere guy too but when it comes to standup mowers Wright is way better and more dependable than John Deere. I have owned both mowers. Good luck this season.
Thanks for watching
I like John Deere I have 2 of them myself. A 48 inch and a 36 inch.
I buy echo/shin because of the speed feed heads, they are the best, measure out 20ft of like, spool up and your off. No issues
Thanks for sharing your experience. Everybody seems to love them
Great video!
I’ve had nothing but bad luck with the echo speed feed. They never hold up for me and I only cut my yard. I gave up using them and went back to the traditional style head. Concept is nice but mine always end up being difficult feeding line. No matter how much or little I put in
Thanks for sharing
Was very enjoyable to watch
Thanks
great video
what size is your trailer?
16 foot with a 2 foot dovetail
i like it 🤗
You need to get some echo equiment
The only thing I have from echo is the speed feed heads.
It’s not that I have anything against them or don’t think they’re good it’s just what they sell at the dealership I like to go to and I like staying with one brand
@@RockhillfarmYT that makes sense
Curious if you think you will transition to the new John Deere Q500 series stand on mowers?
I got out of the mowing business and I do tractor work now along with making videos.
I got a hustler sit down mower for my own property
Man they saw a STUPIT walk in when u said u wanted a mulching set up on a commercial mower 😂
you push a button when you want to mulch and then you push it again when you don’t want to mulch.
The existence of that, button doesn’t mean you have to close it. I was never trying to earn a living mowing. Just something to do, but yards look a little nicer if you mulch them
Nice video. Very well thought out set up you have. Does that same trailer haul your 2038R?
It does not. My tractor weighs close to 6000 pounds and this trailer has 2000 pound axles
I have a A slightly larger bumper pull trailer and I have a 14 K gooseneck for the tractor
@@RockhillfarmYT Wow, 6000 lbs! Is that with the backhoe?
The backhoe is one of the heavier implements. also my stump grinder weighs 940 pounds which is what was on it whenI weighed it at 6000
Of course it always carries the weight of the backhoe subframe. I also have three sets of wheel weights and fluid in the tires and the Cab weighs 400 pounds
Do you have a manufacturing business and a lawn care business and a tractor business??😲😲
Yes. And rental houses. And daily CZcams videos
Holy cow, props to you
I bought Darwin’s grip, was $70 plus with tax and shipping, came all chewed up damaged in shipping, the teeth that lock into the bar are too fine and worth about striping out in the future with wear. so far I don’t think it’s worth the money, quality is sub par. Wish these things would come standard on all trimmers.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Mine has been fine so far.
Cant stay busy enough to make a living doing tractor work. More money in the lawn business.
I know that a lot of people make a lot of money mowing. I can’t say which one has more potential for earning but I can say that mowing yards is a grind and you have to have everything optimized and work your tail off.
There is more upfront investment but I spent all day today in a skid loader charging $100 an hour. It was air-conditioned and I stayed on the same job all day.
I think I’m too lazy for Mowing if we’re being completely honest
@@RockhillfarmYThahaha that AC is nice. I try to make around $1500 a day per lawn crew . Yesterday one crew did 30 yards. I'll tell ya something though $100 an hr for bobcat is cheap. We base ours at $250 an hr but usually never do anything by the hr we do it by the job. Alot of times that hourly rate will make you lose money. I've done jobs for 12 to 15 hundred in a couple hrs or so and if I'd been charging an hourly rate I'd not made nothing.
Best lawn Care set up? Maybe for you. Not where I'm located or other states in the country. Where are your shrub trimmings going? I do this daily. Mulching daily no bagging grass? You live inna bubble if you think that set up is awesome. That set up would never make it in California, Nevada or Arizona. Change the title to "Best set up in Midwest."
