4:15 Looking at that trailer hitch, the entire trailer is begging to be stolen. Upgrade to a small enclosed trailer with a proper hitch and lock. Also, put an air tag inside the bottom of the trailer frame and each individual piece of equipment for tracking. An air tag will help you find stolen equipment but you have to make sure to have all the serial number paperwork with you in case something is stolen or the cops won't even attempt to help you recover the equipment.
You and I have more or less taken the same path in the lawn care business. I started out solo five years ago with a Toro Timemaster as my only mower. One of the reasons I bought it was because of the fold-flat handle since I had to roll it on ramps up into the back of my suv. That's right, I didn't even have a utility trailer lol. After about six months and a whole lot of hot summertime walking behind the Toro, I finally had enough of a customer base so I could afford to buy commercial grade equipment. My first purchase was a 48" Big Dog stander and 6x12 trailer, definitely made things a lot easier! The following year I bought a 61" Ferris 3300 to tackle some larger properties. A year later I traded the suv on a brand new Honda Ridgeline, similar Japanese lineage to your Tacoma, and both are super reliable. I still have the Timemaster, although I don't use it much anymore. It's a tough little mower, and as you said, a lot lighter and easier to maneuver than the commercial 30" version. Oh, and I also use Echo equipment (2620 & 9010 - sorry to hear about the theft), so there's another thing we have in common. You've got a nice setup that will serve you well for many years to come!

I run a solo setup similar to yours, it’s a great lifestyle and it pays well. Sucks that equipment theft is such a problem over there. I’m in Queensland, Australia, I don’t lock my gear up at all, even when it’s sitting in the front driveway at home overnight, not saying it never happens here but I personally have never heard of it.
Nice set up, I use and edger to edge all my yards. I use all Stihl I have a Stihl FS91 Trimmer, Stihl FC91 Edger, Stihl BR600 Blower, my mower is a 2021 Exmark Lazer Z Series 48'' Mower.
Fantastic little setup... i would say get something to lock the mower on the trailer tho... relying on the handbrake on the machine only can land you in the poop 👍

Depends on the equipment and size of properties you plan on servicing. I started with 5x8 trailer. Perfect for the smaller/ medium size homes. Fit a 32-48 stand on and a 30 inch push mower in there without a problem. But think about if you ever want to do commercial work, big mulch jobs,tree trimming, etc.You might want to start with a bigger trailer if this is your end goal and work your way int it
It’s a 5x8 from trailer supply. The 32 pro stance and toro 30 fit perfectly on there, but that’s about all you can fit. I live in a single garage home so I can’t really get anything bigger bc of space. It’s the perfect size if you’ll be focusing on mostly residential work

Start now. Grass will stop growing in the next couple months but you can still make good money doing leaf cleanups, pulling weeds, etc. I would recommend getting insurance as soon as possible but you don’t need it to start off. I, like many others, just started with a few clients doing it as a “side hustle.” Don’t overthink it and just do it. Learn as much as you can and don’t be afraid to ask questions!You won’t learn a lot of things until you get out there. I’d love to help with any more questions you have. @@christianp381 the answer sucks but it really all depends. You have to take into consideration your personal situation. How much you’re spending on gas, equipment, taxes, helper if you have one, car mileage and all other overhang. Get a good idea what it costs you to operate monthly & pick an hourly rate you’re comfortable with. I started at $60 an hour when I was working out of my truck with a small mower and borrowed truck😅 now that I have trailer, bigger equipment, etc. I obviously have to charge more. My target now is 80-90/ hr. Estimate the time it’ll take you to mow a property and charge accordingly. (A 30 min lawn for me would be $45) You have to go out there and do it enough times to be able to know how much each property will take you beforehand

That 1person open trailer setup just begs for theft when u cut the back yd, oh yea don't forget vandalism to equipment ' they do that too' - loading time,unloading...bag that !
The exmark 30' with Kohler engine is a terrible machine. Weighs about 200 lbs and cannot cut overgrown grass. The grass cloggs up under the deck and stops every 2 steps. Imagine 100 plus degree weather and having to lift 200lbs every 3 seconds to unclogg the deck. Mind you this is with the removed chute.
Don't believe in carrying anything that you don't need ? When . . . ? When will you need an extra weed trimmer ? You: If you take care of your equipment you "shouldn't" need an extra trimmer. Me: Right dude, but things break. Machines malfunction and you can never anticipate exactly when they break. When Murphy's riding along I can guarantee that it'll happen at the worst possible time. A trimmer head can break on a job, then what ? Done for the day ? You're done trimming that's for sure. Mowers break... Spindle bearings can fail, belts can break, a switch can burn out. Are you prepared for these things ? or is your day done again. Do you service all your own equipment ? If not, how long will you have to wait to get something fixed ? Sorry sir, but you look like your flying by the seat of your pants with some pretty equipment and a nice truck. When I leave the house, the first lawn on my route is often 20+ miles from home. and I might cover up to 50-60 miles before I'm on my way home. I don't like having to sacrifice an entire day because I wasn't prepared for the simple things that can happen. I do service all of my own equipment, from the truck and trailer to the power equipment. Two winters ago I rebuilt my own Hydro units on my zero turn.. I do everything. I carry spare blades, spindles, plugs, switches (safety & ignition), fuses, belts. I carry the tools to do the job and yes, I've had jobs where a hidden piece of re-bar in a lawn took out two spindles and a brand new set of blades... cost me over $250 in parts and stopped all work for the rest of the day not to mention for the next two weeks waiting for parts. I carry everything for my trimmers, extra line, extra head and spool parts, because yes, I've had days where my trimmer has petered out on me. I run a newer Stihl Kombi unit now and have been neglecting to get my other trimmers loaded up, but seeing your video has made me remember why I always used to carry multiple trimmers. What's worse for me is that I have to literally load and unload all my equipment every time I go out. I hate to leave anything out in the weather and my trailer is open. Really sir, you might consider being a bit more prepared, unless you just don't need to be. Oh, and that blower rack you have there... anyone with a battery operated saw can have that open in less than 60 seconds... just saying. There are better products available. I see too that this is only your second season. You'll grow, and you'll eventually see what I'm talking about. Maybe carrying a set of spindles is a bit overboard for most, but where I live, it's cheaper to carry it with me than to loose an entire day of work which sometimes is upwards of $600. Keep working though sir. And keep shooting videos.
Ok, I've been out on the trail and been thinking about this video and your simplistic perspective, and I've gotta throw another two cents in here... If you indeed stick with this business I believe you will grow, and grow a lot. You'll fast learn that there's a whole lot more to the job than a mower and trimmer. Thinking about my own rig, and my own experiences insist that you will grow and learn. Earlier this spring, I was on a property 35 miles from my home. It was my sole job for that day, an overgrown property with grass over 24" tall. The lawn was intentionally littered with small chunks of firewood and boulders scattered throughout the entire property meaning it had to be cut down by hand first.. Stihl Trimmer time. About 2 hours or so into the job, clearing out tall grass, raking it up, and dragging it to a main pile using my zero-turn mower and towing a tarp... then mow it down to manageable height and a final mow. Starter gave out on the zero-turn. There's a day shot down the drain now. But now what ? Call a tow truck for mowers ? The machine is in the middle of this ladies yard, and dead. Well, a couple of years ago I was attending a Tractor Supply Grand Opening and picked up an ATV winch for around $40... a 2500 lb winch that I had no use for at the time, but it was a great deal. Last fall I decided to install that winch on the floor of my trailer up front center. It's covered by a wooden box that doubles as a step up if I want to step over the front of the trailer onto the tongue. The battery and controls are secured inside a tool box mounted on the tongue of the trailer. That winch came in pretty handy that day. I was able to get my machine up onto my trailer and back home to MY shop where I installed a new starter and was ready to go... after the typical three day wait for parts. Clutch gave out once. Luckily it happened in my own yard. Things that you never expect can and will happen. It's best to be prepared. The way you become prepared is usually having lived through it once already to learn. What about other aspects of lawn care in your business ? Like spraying equipment ? Do you offer to spray any type of herbicides ? What about seeding ? Do you offer to seed lawns in the fall or spring ? Where's that equipment go ? Bug spray ? Hornet spray ? Two Cycle oil ? Trimmer Line ? Pruning shears ? Lopping shears ? Chain Saw ? Rakes, Shovels (and implements of destruction for those Arlo Guthrie fans ! ) ? Maybe you don't need to carry a chainsaw, but where I live you may not even be able to get to your property if you don't carry a chainsaw to open the road first ! Same for getting home, I live pretty remote, but you get the idea. Your success will depend on your willingness to adapt and overcome as well as the services you offer and how well you deliver those services.
Fiuuu! What a read! The fact that I don’t carry unnecessary equipment (that will not get touched the entire day) does not mean that I don’t own back-up equipment. I am a solo operator so I try to minimize what I carry in case I get robbed. Simple. Like you stated anyone can get through that blower rack in 30 seconds. I’d rather them take 1 blower & not 2-3 🤠 Also, every single one of my 60 properties are within 15 minutes of me, most of them being 5-10 so yea I don’t really mind going back home and picking something up if I need it. If you’re ok with driving 50+ miles all across town like a chicken w it’s head cut off just to do a hand full of properties that’s perfectly fine but my business doesn’t operate that way and you shouldn’t assume it does based off of a setup video (that has nothing to do with day to day operations.) Most of my properties are vacation properties buried deep in woods and/or on some lake... I live in the far northeast corner of Minnesota. Here, you can't get 60 properties but the clientele are glad and willing to pay well for the service. But, where I live, you also cannot make a living doing just one thing either... you have to be multi talented... offer more than just mowing. I'm glad for you sir. You have a lot more control of your work. You and I live in two completely different worlds.

That 1person open trailer setup just begs for theft when u cut the back yd, oh yea don't forget vandalism to equipment ' they do that too' - loading time,unloading...bag that !

The exmark 30' with Kohler engine is a terrible machine. Weighs about 200 lbs and cannot cut overgrown grass. The grass cloggs up under the deck and stops every 2 steps. Imagine 100 plus degree weather and having to lift 200lbs every 3 seconds to unclogg the deck. Mind you this is with the removed chute.
Thanks for the feedback! I was looking to buy one soon but maybe I’ll steer clear, specially at that price point! What would you recommend?

You: If you take care of your equipment you "shouldn't" need an extra trimmer.
Me: Right dude, but things break.
Machines malfunction and you can never anticipate exactly when they break.
When Murphy's riding along I can guarantee that it'll happen at the worst possible time.
A trimmer head can break on a job, then what ? Done for the day ?
You're done trimming that's for sure.
Mowers break... Spindle bearings can fail, belts can break, a switch can burn out.
Are you prepared for these things ? or is your day done again.
Do you service all your own equipment ? If not, how long will you have to wait to get something fixed ?
Sorry sir, but you look like your flying by the seat of your pants with some pretty equipment and a nice truck.
When I leave the house, the first lawn on my route is often 20+ miles from home. and I might cover up to 50-60 miles before I'm on my way home.
I don't like having to sacrifice an entire day because I wasn't prepared for the simple things that can happen.
I do service all of my own equipment, from the truck and trailer to the power equipment.
Two winters ago I rebuilt my own Hydro units on my zero turn.. I do everything.
I carry spare blades, spindles, plugs, switches (safety & ignition), fuses, belts.
I carry the tools to do the job and yes, I've had jobs where a hidden piece of re-bar in a lawn took out two spindles and a brand new set of blades... cost me over $250 in parts and stopped all work for the rest of the day not to mention for the next two weeks waiting for parts.
I carry everything for my trimmers, extra line, extra head and spool parts, because yes, I've had days where my trimmer has petered out on me.
I run a newer Stihl Kombi unit now and have been neglecting to get my other trimmers loaded up, but seeing your video has made me remember why I always used to carry multiple trimmers.
What's worse for me is that I have to literally load and unload all my equipment every time I go out.
I hate to leave anything out in the weather and my trailer is open.
Really sir, you might consider being a bit more prepared, unless you just don't need to be.
Oh, and that blower rack you have there... anyone with a battery operated saw can have that open in less than 60 seconds... just saying. There are better products available.
I see too that this is only your second season. You'll grow, and you'll eventually see what I'm talking about.
Maybe carrying a set of spindles is a bit overboard for most, but where I live, it's cheaper to carry it with me than to loose an entire day of work which sometimes is upwards of $600.

Ok, I've been out on the trail and been thinking about this video and your simplistic perspective, and I've gotta throw another two cents in here...
If you indeed stick with this business I believe you will grow, and grow a lot.
You'll fast learn that there's a whole lot more to the job than a mower and trimmer.
Thinking about my own rig, and my own experiences insist that you will grow and learn.
Earlier this spring, I was on a property 35 miles from my home. It was my sole job for that day, an overgrown property with grass over 24" tall. The lawn was intentionally littered with small chunks of firewood and boulders scattered throughout the entire property meaning it had to be cut down by hand first.. Stihl Trimmer time.
About 2 hours or so into the job, clearing out tall grass, raking it up, and dragging it to a main pile using my zero-turn mower and towing a tarp... then mow it down to manageable height and a final mow.
Starter gave out on the zero-turn. There's a day shot down the drain now.
But now what ?
Call a tow truck for mowers ?
The machine is in the middle of this ladies yard, and dead.
Well, a couple of years ago I was attending a Tractor Supply Grand Opening and picked up an ATV winch for around $40... a 2500 lb winch that I had no use for at the time, but it was a great deal.
Last fall I decided to install that winch on the floor of my trailer up front center.
It's covered by a wooden box that doubles as a step up if I want to step over the front of the trailer onto the tongue. The battery and controls are secured inside a tool box mounted on the tongue of the trailer.
That winch came in pretty handy that day. I was able to get my machine up onto my trailer and back home to MY shop where I installed a new starter and was ready to go... after the typical three day wait for parts.
Clutch gave out once. Luckily it happened in my own yard.
Things that you never expect can and will happen. It's best to be prepared.
The way you become prepared is usually having lived through it once already to learn.
What about other aspects of lawn care in your business ?
Like spraying equipment ? Do you offer to spray any type of herbicides ?
What about seeding ? Do you offer to seed lawns in the fall or spring ?
Where's that equipment go ?
Bug spray ? Hornet spray ? Two Cycle oil ? Trimmer Line ? Pruning shears ?
Lopping shears ? Chain Saw ? Rakes, Shovels (and implements of destruction for those Arlo Guthrie fans ! ) ?
Maybe you don't need to carry a chainsaw, but where I live you may not even be able to get to your property if you don't carry a chainsaw to open the road first ! Same for getting home, I live pretty remote, but you get the idea.
Your success will depend on your willingness to adapt and overcome as well as the services you offer and how well you deliver those services.

Fiuuu! What a read! The fact that I don’t carry unnecessary equipment (that will not get touched the entire day) does not mean that I don’t own back-up equipment. I am a solo operator so I try to minimize what I carry in case I get robbed. Simple. Like you stated anyone can get through that blower rack in 30 seconds. I’d rather them take 1 blower & not 2-3 🤠 Also, every single one of my 60 properties are within 15 minutes of me, most of them being 5-10 so yea I don’t really mind going back home and picking something up if I need it. If you’re ok with driving 50+ miles all across town like a chicken w it’s head cut off just to do a hand full of properties that’s perfectly fine but my business doesn’t operate that way and you shouldn’t assume it does based off of a setup video (that has nothing to do with day to day operations.) I don't drive "all the way across town " . . . I am extremely rural... with a capital EXTREME !
Most of my properties are vacation properties buried deep in woods and/or on some lake...
I live in the far northeast corner of Minnesota. Here, you can't get 60 properties but the clientele are glad and willing to pay well for the service.
But, where I live, you also cannot make a living doing just one thing either... you have to be multi talented... offer more than just mowing.
I'm glad for you sir. You have a lot more control of your work. You and I live in two completely different worlds.
