    I agree with you about the raised lid for extra space - this is a really great feature - adding additional storage space. It allows for a roll of paper towels to sit perfectly the long way/up and down and doesn't impede the lid from closing....! Great video! Thanks for sharing!

    I like the look of the 17 gallon box.
    I wish they made a box that was half as wide as the large or medium box.... so you could stack two of the half size boxes on top or in the same space

    I like these boxes, I have several large ones and a medium. There are two issues I have with the large ones, the hinges and wheels. I wish the wheels were on an axle and better quality. The lid comes off the hinges if you open it all the way. Then it’s a pain to get it back on track.

    I checked out the larger Plano models at the store. Flimsy. Probably good for storing things long term but I can't imagine them being useful for camping because I don't think they'd last very long being moved, loaded/unloaded, and transported. And don't sit in them when they're empty.

      That was my first thought on the Plano toolbox I was gifted nearly 30 years ago.
      I seriously didn't expect those latches to hold up a year.lol but...
      It's been banged around in my 4x4 ever since. Despite the plastic looking stressed from age, it's still solid. And the latches are still just as strong.
      Now that I've seen the big box looks like a perfect fit for the rack on the ATV .
      Plastic that has no give like the Sterilite yellow and black boxes are brittle. They appear stronger until they take a good whack, then they'll crack. Considering how many times I've used that toolbox for a bench 200#+ lol I have no doubt these larger ones would hold up.

    The hinged one looks like a winner for an suv, behind the rear seat. Easier to open without having to move it around.

      @rHighlife how far does the hinged top open? Does it go beyond vertical position and stay put or does it flop forward so that you have to hold the lid all the time while getting something out?
      Also, is it easy to remove the top of it, if you get tired of the hinges? ( do the hinges easily pop on and off?)

    Great info. One question I have is adding some layers of security / deterrent other than just a padlock. How do you lock these down to your rig? Is there a decent enough lock like those on a vehicle gun box that works? Really don't some of this stuff to get stolen and yes, I understand they will not be invicible, just want an added layer to make it not worth their time. Thanks in advnce.

    • @OutdoorHighlife

      @@OutdoorHighlife thats cool. I have tethered two together with a NiteIze Cam buckle and that has made it so they don't slide around. My only other concern is deterring someone from rifling thru these one way or another. In my state, I would possibly become a felon by going to eat afterr a duck hunt and someone happened to break in. Trying to avoid that if I want to grab lunch.

    • @kftc1980
      @kftc1980 Před rokem

      The hinged makes sense for a vehicle (suv cargo area?) or tight space where you won’t be moving them around and need easy access. In those cases it may make sense to sacrifice sturdiness for ease of use.

    • @OutdoorHighlife
      @OutdoorHighlife  Před 2 lety

      I don't believe they are airtight, but they do have a seal inside that waterproofs them fairly well. I've never had anything get wet inside them when it's raining. But I've never fully submerged them in water either.

    For anyone about to purchase one of these pieces of crap like I did right after watching the video, DON'T! Plastic was cheap and warped, the lid was very hard to put on and secure. I wish I had seen this comment before I ordered one off amazon, do yourself a favor and get something else!

    • @OutdoorHighlife

      I usually don't reply to comments like these, but I believe I have an obligation to respond on this particular one. If there is something out there better for the price, please let me know. I am always looking for something better. I have several of these and have used them and abused them. They are definitely not a pelican case, but for the price, they are hard to beat. If anyone is in the market for one, go find one at your local outdoor store, check it out, and let me know what you think!
