    I love how simple and straight to the point you guys made this video and the feeder! Thanks so much for sharing your gentle expertise!!!

    I like your design and built an exact copy. But here is my experience (failure) and modification if it may help someone. I had everything completely assembled and glued together. I tested it with whole corn and the corn continuously poured out at about 20-25 pounds a minute. I cut two strips of the 4 inch pipe about 3/8” wide and a half circle. I glued these (double-thick) at the edge of each spout to form somewhat of a dam. I then put 3 small screws from the exterior of the pipe through the strips for “insurance”. I also put a 4” strip of traction tape just behind this to create a bit of friction. It worked well after that. I could pull corn over the dam with my fingers and it continued to backfill up to the dam. The screws and friction tape may not even be needed, but I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I’m glad I tested it before I hauled it way out in the woods.

      Lowe's, Home Depot, any hardware store. It's a simple toilet flange. Check out my CZcams video....55 GRAVITY DEER FEEDER

    I have made many of these for 30 plus years in UP of Michigan. Forget all
    The pvc pipe it’s waist time. Just take 55 plastic drum an use a 3” hole saw an cut a hole at the very bottom front. Set up against tree an fill with whole corn. When fill just set your foot in front of hole for first bag you dump. The corn will gravity out as deer pull away from front. Painting is waist of time but bear will tip over so lag bolt barrel to tree.

    How did the feeders work for you? I'm going to use your design this season. Putting the feeders out this weekend.

    • @inhistracksoutdoors
      @inhistracksoutdoors  Před 3 lety +2

      They have worked great for us so far, the main thing that we have noticed is finding the right right tree can make it a lot easier for putting the locking lid back on so it closes good! We actually have 2 out in Kansas right now, just waiting for us to make it out there for our rut vacation!! Hopefully it works as good for you as it has for us, good luck this season

    • @survivethat2012
      @survivethat2012 Před 3 lety +1

      I will let you know how it goes. I was thinking of putting a 2x4 between the barrel and the tree. It should create enough gap to access the lid. Without tilting it to much, I hope.

    What keeps all the corn from just constantly, as soon as you fill it up, from falling out?

    • @darenleeper1644
      @darenleeper1644 Před rokem +1

      Gravity pulls down not sideways, so corn just sits there. That's why he said 7 inch for exit pipe, so it makes a corn pyramid.

  • @dalewalker2379
    @dalewalker2379 Před 4 lety +8

    Why put the flange on the outside of the barrel. If you put it on the inside going out, there'll be less stress on the bolts and the flange itself.

    • @EDB0223
      @EDB0223 Před 3 lety

      Mine works best outside. The inside version restricts that last bit of corn. That corn that doesn't fallout gets moldy.

    • @dalewalker2379
      @dalewalker2379 Před 3 lety

      @@EDB0223 so your saying the last little bit gets moldy, but when you fill the whole barrel up....none of it gets moldy before it's all eaten. Your feeding tube is mounted off center, so all of the corn won't fall out anyways. Another problem is your ratchet strap idea.....you are putting a lot of weight tension on one point. Why not just put 4 legs on the barrel and let it stand up. Too low to the ground. Look at the one in the video....a deer has got to get down low and up under the barrel just to get to the feeding tube. What about a buck with a good rack? He won't be able to get to it. If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I do. Check out my CZcams video "55 GALLON GRAVITY DEER FEEDER". I've even done a few more improvements since I posted the video. I shortened the legs to 4 ft. And angled the PVC towards the ground so it would make a small pile on the ground. Works like a pro now.
      Don't take my comments as rude or ugly. I'm just trying to help with ideas for a better feeder. Good luck hunting!

    Wouldn’t it just be easier to learn how to actually hunt deer than run a feeder all the way to Kansas ? Watch The Hunting Public to help you get started. Much much much more rewarding than baiting deer. Best to all of you guys.
