Enjoyed this Andrew. Went to the Feast at the Mills last week - really good and the Manager came over and talked us through the plans for all the mills behind it, and plans for a 2,000 seater theatre / events venue behind (maybe an extension of The Edge). Good to see investment in the town!
Unfortunately Andrew satellite towns in the borough and surrounding areas are left to rot due to lack of infrastructure,forward thinking planning and investment
There's @@66murraymints defiantly some truth in that, lack of infrastructure seems to be a major problem, however some of the privately funded projects still give me hope!
The council should rebuild Wigan Casino, the greatest asset that the town ever had. Dunno if there is a good live venue in Wigan these days, but the home of Northern Soul would bring a lot of folk to Wigan as a live venue and club. I used to go the jazz funk dayers at Wigan Pier and Cassanelli's also

I worked at the ABC cinema up to its closure in 1983. The town is pitiful now. Ruined since the closure of the old market hall, and the building of the Galleries. Looks like they have run out of money for completing the 'new' market, nothing has been done in weeks.

That’s true many of the privately funded projects are by Manchester companies!
Imagine the pier built up Amsterdam /Venice (haha) style, with cafe's and bars and local stuff.

There are a few buildings in King street that could be a venue for Wigan Casino, that would be an amazing idea!
I think they should get the blueprints out and build the exact building. Be a great live venue@@andrewemmerson

I really liked the old market hall and the market arcade, there was no need to pull those down in the first place.
I avoid going into town if at all possible, it's a s***hole. Rick Astley is from N-Le-Willows, kin St Helens, not our borough. Lives in Surrey!
