  • Learn MikroTik RouterOs Tutorial Series (english)
    The configuration backup can be used for backing up MikroTik RouterOS configuration to a binary file, which can be stored on the router or downloaded from it using FTP or Winbox for future use. The configuration restore can be used for restoring the router's configuration, exactly as it was at the backup creation moment, from a backup file. The restoration procedure assumes the configuration is restored on the same router, where the backup file was originally created, so it will create partially broken configuration if the hardware has been changed.
    The configuration export can be used for dumping out complete or partial MikroTik RouterOS configuration to the console screen or to a text (script) file, which can be downloaded from the router using FTP or Winbox. The configuration dumped is actually a batch of commands
    You will need any one of these Mikrotik routerboard router for this tutorial:

    Thanks for the tutorial! Can you tell me...if I am upgrading from one model of Mikrotik such a hex POE with 5 ports to a router such as the 4011 with 10...will the import/export fail if the corresponding port syntax does not match? Additionally, some routers do not have eth0 and some have a combo port which I believe would not be recognized by the router which is being upgraded.

    @5:24 you say to type the password for the router when restoring. Is that true, or did you mean the password that had been set when creating the backup?

    Doesn't work man. I get incorrect file size (6). I tried taking in and out by drag drop and WInSCP/FTP also tried initiating restore by telnet. Still same error.

      Not recommended, use the export/import configuration instead.

    • @TKSJa
      @TKSJa  Před 4 lety

      You would have to write a script to move the backup to sd card or do it manually

    This tutorial is obviously missing the: How to restore the script file. I bet one does not copy paste the commands one by one :) So try this link for completeness: jcutrer.com/howto/networking/mikrotik/mikrotik-backup-and-restore
