    Excellent series. I have played the Ardennes 44 and Holland 44. I also have the Ukraine 43 but I did not got time to start a game. Your videos about it are very interesting to see it has the same system............ more or less. Goos video and great game play. I am looking foward to watching the next one.

    Have fun. This has been a tense one both times we played. Both side felt they were at the edge of ruin the entire time!

    Great video on a really fun game. Played it a couple of times with my gaming group. Your right about it being a puzzle for the Germans. Can’t give up to much ground to fast. Keep up the good work.

    Just great. Such a smooth, conversational delivery. Solitaire play is wasted on you, my friend; you'd be a great opponent!! Enjoying this immensely!

    Counter Attack - you do a great job on all your play thru’s thanks, can you name three of your favorite one map war games ?

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  Před 3 lety +3

      One mappers? That's going to be difficult! Maybe these: "Empire Of The Sun", "For The People", "No Retreat: The Russian Front". However, if I can include games of empires in conflict - which I don't consider pure wargames but they are in the ballpark - the list would change to "Successors", "Pax Romana", and "Sword Of Rome". Successors is probably my favorite game, or a close tie with Advanced Squad Leader.

    Yep. Time to fort up. A line of forts to hold the line for a bit. And places to run to when the Soviets start pouring through the German lines.

    Hope you had a good christmas and new year
    Good to see the series back
    most people say stalingrad 42 is the hardest rule set in the series what are your thoughts having played a few of the games ?

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  Před 3 lety +1

      I've played the Caucasus Campaign scenario and did not find it any more complicated. If I recall the extra rules were city battles and supply "convoys" which are not complicated - but they are cool! I have yet to play the big scenarios - I cannot even fit the whole campaign on my table.

      @@CounterAttack thanks for the info
      As i have gmt 3x east front series on p500
      i dont know whether to dive in on this one would you pick ukarine 43 or stalingrad 42 or go western front if so normandy 44 or holland 44 or ardennes 44

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  Před 3 lety +1

      @@chrisridley4840 That's a tough call. I haven't played any of them thoroughly - just a 2-6 turns each (except for the Caucasus scenario which I finished). What I like about Ukraine 43 so far is both sides are fairly even (so far) and both can make dynamic moves, rather than one side mostly being static trying to stop the dynamic side (which I hear Normandy 44 is like). I also like that it fits on my table! I think I'd go with that actually. It is technically out of print but I bought mine recently straight from GMT Games. I asked if it was going to be re-printed and they said they could sell me one of their extra copies (I presume they keep for spare parts). I think Holland and Ardennes tend to get the most praise though.

      Ok many thanks for that
      I can find copies of ukarine 43 but they are the 2000 edition and i think there have been major changes ?
      As i have the east front series on p500 i may just wait
      How did you get on with the books did you get the two prit buttar's for christmas or from the library

      @CounterAttack  Před 3 lety +1

      @@chrisridley4840 Yes I suggest avoiding the original edition. It is my understanding the later edition brought the game more in line with the other games in the series. I have not acquired your book suggestions yet - I'm in a big reading rut lately - lots of competing diversions.

    Really enjoying this playthrough and it's helping me come to terms with these games. Just a quick question though. The Red Russian units are Guard units I believe, so would they give you the Elite shift? If so, this would give the Russians a really good push through that thin German line.

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  Před 3 lety +1

      The red units are guards, but they are not considered elite in terms of the quality shift. There are some designer notes describing that the elite shift was reserved for the German armor and mech infantry.

      @@CounterAttack Thanks. Must of missed that bit. I'll have another read.

    • @dadvsson
      @dadvsson Před 3 lety

      I think I see where you're coming from and I may well be wrong again, it wouldn't be the first time, but I believe that the Designer Notes are simply saying that the Germans got the Tank/Elite shift so that the combat values didn't have to be increased giving them an unrealistic advantage in rough terrain, cities. That's why under 'Tank Shifts', the Germans gain the extra 'Elite' shift.
      However, under 'Troop Quality' '...all Soviet Guard units are Elite', so they should get the shift, if able.
      If you have another reference, please let me know, as I'm about to start the full campaign and don't want to make any more than my usual great, great, great many mistakes.

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  Před 3 lety

      @@dadvsson I'm guessing you are using the first edition of the game rules, because I can't find the quote you reference about guards in the 2nd Edition rules (the 2nd Edition had major changes). In the 2nd Edition rules there is an example of play showing guards attacking non-elite German units and they do not get a quality shift. The rules also say there has to be a red "box" and the Soviet units do not have a box. gmtwebsiteassets.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/uk43/Ukraine43-Rules_May2017.pdf
