Wonderful interview! On the topic of using photographs/technology, I feel like, contemporarily, the use of photos, digital programs, etc. is completely in the spirit of art history. At first, I was also a little trepidatious about using photo reference or photoshop, but when I learned more about artists like Vermeer and his use of the camera obscura, right up through Alphonse Mucha's extensive use of photography, as well as many artists between and since, I started to recognize that not only have artists adapted to the tools available to them in their time, but that those tools help to solidify artworks as being rooted in a particular time and place. All art is "contemporary" to its place in history.
I may understand what you are saying, but most people were lost after the word...trepidatious,obscura,Alphonso muchas', simple English would have worked just fine.
I love drawing from life, but modern humans seem incapable of sitting for the hour I need to get a good likeness (especially my younger relatives)! It gives me a lot of respect for the amazing artwork produced before photography. Having a reference for later has finished many of my drawings. I do think I get better practice “seeing” when I translate 3-dimensions to two rather than two to two.
"Be a part of your generation" I LOVE this so much! It may be one of the best things I've heard as far as career advise. I love your "just sell it" mentality and not getting hung up on prices. I also love how you look at rejection. Something I'll be sure to remind myself of when I start applying places. New subscriber even though I don't paint.
Wow! What a great interview! I feel like she asked all the questions I would have asked you in person! Now let me rap this comment up.... It was nice to see that we have some of the same views, when they don’t like a piece it’s never bad news, just be like okay, you don’t like it that’s fine, I guess I’m better now, cause it was practice time! Lol
Really wonderful specially your parting advice in the interview.Powerful points. We can do what it takes to paint and create, that is the main goal instead of just to have money. Even if that is good too it should not be the goal.
Hi again. As always it's good to hear from you. I just want to send you and your wife all our love and we hope you can stay safe and well. We have been watching you from the first video and you've been a great inspiration. So all the best from me, Glenn Williams and my partner Laura and also from Christine my mom who is also a big fan of yours and never misses a video. UK.
I have just restarted my painting after a forty-year hiatus. My first projects will be to copy some masterpieces. I am doing this for two reasons: first, learn; second, to hang them on my walls. I can’t wait to have my house filled with all my favourite paintings. 😄
VERY VERY underemphasized in our time and society what he says about connection to something larger, the transcendent ...we as contemporary ingrates feel the power of real art ..ie deeply connected artists...what’s that tell ya....wonder where God went in churches...,hmmmm?
You are such an amazing person!! The best painter in the world!!! Thank you, you are an inspiration to me!!!

@@wilber19541 That was plain English. If you want to be better understood yourself, put a space after a comma.

If we belong to this time and space...why paint the masters
Just learning from them, not painting them.
