Being Catholic Is Hard

  • Being Catholic is hard.
    Very hard.
Harder than any other religion, and certainly harder then other form of Christianity
There are rules that don't exist in other christian churches.
In Catholicism you have to go to mass under pain of mortal sin, confess your sins to a priest,
Submit to an earthly authority especially on matters of doctrine, and realize that good works are part of the salvation process which takes a lifetime to accomplish.
While in other churches all you have to do is believe, the rest of your personal doctrine is determined by your personal interpretation of scripture, you can go to church whenever you want, and salvation is a one time event.

Never give up hope and trust in the mercy of our Lord. Frequent the sacraments, avoid occasions of sin: people, places, and things. Have a true devotion to the mother of God to her rosary, brown scapular of Mount Carmel, and the Fatima message. The spiritual exercises of meditation, spiritual reading, and deep prayer life, especially Eucharistic adoration will make you a Great Catholic.

I’m in the process of converting and I’ve already had to defend Catholicism so many times when I’m not even fully Catholic yet. Most of my friend group was from my old church and as soon as I started thinking about converting it was nonstop questioning and grilling Catholic doctrines that I haven’t even learned yet. And now with the recent stuff regarding the Pope, I’m getting questioned on that as well.
It would have been so easy to just remain in my old church. But I can’t ignore what I know to be true. Pray for my strength.
Edit: since a lot of people keep coming across this comment, I’d also like to ask that you pray for my sister. I found out recently she’s been trying to practice paganism and I haven’t had a chance to talk to her about it.

God started me on a path to think about the way I was worshiping Him and submitting to him. So I began back at the church and started veiling whenever I am praying or at church. Saying the rosary again has been an amazing way to build my connection with Him and Mary. I am so happy to be back home.

In once sense, you are transported back to the time of the Crucifixion, then you are with “all of rheumatoid arthritis Angels and the Saints” in heaven eating the Last Supper. Then you can spend time with the Father and the Son, and Our Mother, and go back into the world. Man, this is just the beginning. No wonder we believe I. The transformation of the person. My turning point was retrenchment in my mid-50’s which I realised was God calling me out of slavery and have rekindled my journey to God through Sacred Scripture, reading the Patristic Fathers, reading Vatican documents, committing to a part-time Theology program offered by the Archdiocese, helping in RCIA, accepting the call as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and taking Holy Communion to those in Frail Care each Sunday.
Practicing to live the Gospel daily has enriched and changed me completely.

I have had no religion in my life, However I have always believed, Iv been going to Mass every Sunday and I try to go to Day masses as well. It's been a beautiful experience for me. However I have had more temptations of sin since going to church.

Very well said! I couldn't agree more. Becoming a Catholic or returning to real Catholicism comes with lots of suffering, sacrifice, mourning and grieving (the Cross).
Last year I let go of Christmas like I knew it when I found out that most of the tradition has pagan roots. And I'm doing the same with Easter. The memories connected to the traditions with the people I once belonged to hurts so bad. And these are only tiny crosses.

Above ALL else being a Catholic should instil JOY beyond all measure: St Therese of Lisieux ""I an no longer able to suffer, since all suffering is sweet to me". . . . . . .Matt 11:30 "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light", Matt 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." , John 19:26-27: "When Jesus saw his Mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his Mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your Mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home. TAKE OUR HOLY MOTHER INTO YOUR "HOME". Matt 26:26 "As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take this and eat it, for this is my body.” TAKE OUR BLESSED LORD INTO YOUR HEART AND SOUL AT ALL TIMES, FOR ALL TIME. John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." We share in the cross and the absolute joy of the resurrection. satan makes all else "hard", especially and all so sadly for those who have rejected Our Lord's eternal LOVE, in preference for the world- now that's where the true "hardness" resides, a life without Christ, John 10:10 "I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. ... .."translates to an existence devoid of any real HOPE, here or in eternity. MAY THE HOLY SPIRIT ENLIGHTEN ALL, for that we must ardently pray. AVE MARIA!

To be a nominal Catholic isn't hard at all. But to be a real Catholic is. As a practicing Catholic, I fall into the trap of temptation at times; but each time I fall I don't give up the fight. It took me a decade to really say that I'm now beginning to overcome temptations against chastity although I still fall sometimes. The good thing is that there's the sacrament of reconciliation in the Church, something that protestant churches don't have. I know it because I used to be a Pentecostal/Protestant. The hardest of all the rules in the Catholic Church is the prohibition of contraceptives, pornography, pre-marital and extra-marital sex, abortion, divorce, and even masturbation as well as similar sins against chastity. When I was still a protestant, our pastor didn't emphasize any of these. I thought these are normal as it seems everybody is doing it. It was indeed a lot easier being a Protestant than being a Catholic.

I've experienced this on a small scale. I am unemployed at the moment and someone gave me a chance to work part-time for them but on Sundays. It was tough because I gave up a good deal of money but the person who is a friend of mine, is Muslim and is not fond of catholics so I ended up telling him no. We run a small business together but my share is barely anything and I stay to care for my mom. Needless to say I was tempted but my mom told me she had a sense for me to say no. After praying about it, I realized it wouldn't be beneficial for my faith . Now I'm struggling to say my rosary every day but I'm going to try again.

ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II: : “Eternal damnation remains a possibility, but we are not granted, without special divine revelation, the knowledge of whether or which human beings are effectively involved in it. The thought of hell and even less the improper use of biblical images must not create anxiety or despair... The concept of hellfire, the fiery furnace and the unquenchable fire of Gehenna need to be interpreted as symbolic language... The risen Jesus has conquered Satan, giving us the Spirit of God who makes us cry, ‘Abba, Father!’” (Rm 8:15; Gal 5:6).

@@imisschristendom5293 POPE BENEDICT XVI: “People should not fear God, thinking he is always ready to punish, but rather they should love him because he is always ready to forgive.
God is not a relentless sovereign who condemns the guilty, but a loving father whom we must love not out of fear of punishment, but because of his goodness.
The Lord is a God who is just, but always ready to reveal himself as merciful and compassionate.God loves us in a way that we might call “obstinate” and enfolds us in his inexhaustible tenderness. The anger and mercy of the Lord alternate in a dramatic sequence, but love triumphs in the end, for God is love.

To compare the novus ordo church and religion to the True Catholic Church is a world of difference. The true Church is a perfect institution both infallible and indefectible. The church that came out of the judeo masonic revolution of the 1962-65 council has a new mass, new theology, new sacraments, new code of law, new catechism, new Rosary etc. It has all the externals but void of anything supernatural. It seems the true Church is in eclipse as our Lady of La Sallet foretold. Hold to the true Faith and pray the Traditional Rosary and know what the Church has always taught to protect your soul and eternal salvation.

There's no other church nor Christians, only the Catholic and catholics period. In the beginning, it's hard because of being in the fallen state, the poisoning of sin that has wrecked us , concupiscence, etc. Living the life that God wants is a war that we are able to do through Christ with the help of the Holy blessed mother. It's completely so different from what we are used to . To carry ones cross and follow the Lord. We can't do it ourselves. GOD out of his love has given us so many things to help us, the Holy Spirit, the blessed virgin Mary and more. We have to die me to ourelves- Ego.
May God bless you all, pray for us O holy Mother of God that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ Amen.
