- I'm a huge fan of the Fallout IP, but can a miniatures skirmish game live up to the RPG's glorious exploration?

I love this game! It’s one of my favorites.
Fabulous. It’s a cool system for sure.
I like the set-up. Not everyone has tons of cash to spend on tarrane. As long as my base set comes in good or great condition any setting is good enough
Good call!
I like your terrain!
The tiny cardboard tokens that come with the game, less so.
Thanks! My 7 year-old was very impressed by my cutting skills!
Well it is a wasteland so i don't mind it not having any terrain haha. Thanks for the playthrough Mike!
Good point!
First, I think cooperative miniature skirmish games are awesome and really underdeveloped at this point. Very excited for the future.
Second, have you covered Rangers of Shadowdeep? What do I need to do to make that happen? :)
Thanks again!
I think my game group is supposed to play that (whenever we meet in person again), so could cover it one day.
I also have the Skyrim game by the same people as this one, so will cover that eventually.
Will there be a 5 in 5 for this game?
I discussed this in the playthrough video. I feel like it wouldn't be too useful, because I have issues with the whole model of skirmish miniature games. For example, I hate that most don't provide terrain or clear scenarios, and you have to cobble things together yourself. It's a different world than what I'm used to.
That said, here's a quick top 5 list, trying to ignore that stuff, just for you! :)
5 - (pro) Activation and reactions - I thought the slight variation on I go-you go, where you activate one person but can wait to have many dudes move en masse, was pretty cool. And reactions were simpler than in some other games, but still let you do fun tactical things.
4 - (mix) Force-building - Some people might LOVE digging through the many cards and oufitting their dudes, but I didn't enjoy that they have all the point values only online (I assume this is for post-release balancing, but it's still annoying). Luckily the AI units are pre-built, so it's not so bad there.
3 - (pro) dice resolution - This is a similar multi-dice system to Descent, Imperial Assault, etc., where dice can both help you hit OR give you better results, so if you take a shot with a person who needs less mitigation, you'll tend to hit harder. I like that
2 - (mix) AI cards and activations - The AI system is really flexible, and looking at the scenarios they have online you can do some pretty creative things with it. AI activation is also SOMEWHAT straightforward, but breaking ties can be more annoying than I'd like, and they can be VERY dumb sometimes, making scenarios too easy.
1 - (mix) Unit variety - Personally, I prefer units that feel HIGHLY different, and you sort of get that here. Clearly a deathclaw is different than a human, and a human is different than a super mutant. But besides that, I don't think units have enough keywords and special abilities to make them feel unique. That'll be a pro for people who want streamlined gameplay, but was a negative for me.
One Stop Co-op Shop thanks alot. I actually listen to 5 in 5 before thr playthrough, I missed tge part in the video where you say it.
You’re welcome!
i own this game aswel but i still need to get it to the table :( and i still need to paint it aswel.
I wish I was better at painting, then maybe it would get to my table more ;)
Can you play with one character
Sure, if you use all your squad points for one powered up person
Hmm!, looks a bit sparse.
It doesn’t help that I don’t own snazzy terrain to show off ;)
The game does come with a foldable mat with the image of a wasteland, but since it’s folded in fourths it didn’t sit flat enough for the video. If I had a piece of plexiglass or something, I could have made that work.
@pencilpauli whether it was lifted or not, I'm all in favor of never having to bust out a tape measurer for these kinds of games ever again ;)
@pencilpauli ohhhhh, triangle sounds FANCY. I like it.
