  • With the recent publication of the Oxford Handbook of Modern Diplomacy, UNU Rector David M. Malone hosted the book's co-editor Jorge Heine (CIGI Professor of Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs in Waterloo, Ontario) and Sadaaki Numata (Japan's former Ambassador to Pakistan and Canada) to discuss this and other critical questions before an audience that included a number of representatives of the diplomatic community in Japan.
Following the event, the trio sat down for this expanded discussion on modern diplomacy, highlighting the challenges and opportunities presented by the move away from long-established club diplomacy (private, administrative and written) to today's network diplomacy (interdependent, inclusive and publicly accessible).

Diplomacy is my dream. What do you think of that career in itself?
