I used to pre wash my quilts and receiving blankets before gifting. But as times went by I realized that the new mommy was going to wash everything she got for the baby anyway. So I will not wash but I include a “ Color catcher” with it if the colors are bright or vibrant. Most all mommies are very grateful for this
I will also give a new mommie a bottle of Dreft or whatever brand of baby laundry detergent you like. Everything helps out a new family.
Mitered corners…first time anyone has explained it to make sense in my brain. Now I can’t wait to try it. Thanks so much Miss Tracy. Love love love this tutorial. 🤗 have a most wonderful weekend 🥰🤗🤗
Wow, that’s a beautiful corner! I’ve been sewing a long time and never knew this tip.
Back when I was working I used to make receiving blankets this size for new moms. I prewashed because true flannel will shrink. As a disclaimer be sure to read the label on the bolt and make sure it is flannel and not acrylic and not meant for use with babies. When I made receiving blankets this size I did a rolled hem on my serger. I'm old enough to remember when receiving blankets were actually about that size. Moms and babies loved those blankets. You did a fantastic job explaining how to do a mitered corner.
Back in the day my gramma was a beautiful sewer, and having her first great grandson, she made me several of these 1 yard receiving blankets. Because my son was born the size of a small horse, I could actually swaddle him in them, store bought ones were a joke. Love them and I now always gift them for new moms. I have kept them for when he has his own kids. KY son was 8 lbs 11ozs, 23.5 inches long with head n chest of 14 inches.
I wash and put everything in the dryer that leaves my sewing room so I can be confident that it will cope with the dryer when it gets to its new home. That and I have cats.
I’ve never seen a corner done like that. I want to try it.
I used the corner miter technique for a finished quilt binding. Best exolnation. I’ve seen.
BEST mitered corner explanation ever! Thank you. 👍🏼
I always but 1 &1/4 yards. Already pretty square.
Thanks Tracy! I always cheated my children’s receiving blankets and just serged them. Yours looks so much nicer and looks like a complete set with the quilt.
When I cut the selvage off I use the colored dots for my Christmas tree ornaments on my fabric tree.
Love this technique!
Side note: I also have a Dritz Ezy-Hem ruler; there is no need to draw a pencil line on it. Just flip it to the other side for the straight hem guide lines. :)
Thank you. Mine has lines on the other side too...LOL🤣 Not sure why I did that now....LOL... I bet I didn't even realize the other side had lines in the moment. haha
I remember those days, long ago, when I sewed receiving blankets
for my and my friends babies. Those were the days :) Thanks for a great video & trip down memory lane, lol.
❤️
Thank you for explaining mitered corners so well and the 45 degree angle!!! You rock!
I don’t sell anything lol I always give everything away
I just want to bless people 🙏🙏🙏🙏🎁
Mee too! There are a lot that do sell though...God Bless em ❤️
I ALWAYS serge the flannel and then wash it before sewing. No raveling & I actually find it keeps the shape better to square up. I also make mine double sided receiving blankets.
I like to make reverable blankets. I use a pretty cotton fabric for one side and flannel for the other. Makes a nice gift. Saves messing with mitered corners. ,,yes ,i am a lazy girl
Love the receiving blanket tutorial ❤
When I made them for my son in the early 80s I doubled the yardage so both sides could be used reversible and warmer Ohio winters was brutal Thanks 🙏 for the video
Wish i had known about the Mitered Corner previously 😅 ive butchered some blankets in my journey. But ill never tell 😂! Thanks for the instructions, Tracy!! ❤
Wow! Love the miter technique. Now I need to break out some flannel and play a bit! Thank you
I like to buy 1 1/3 yard and make a couple of burp cloths to match the receiving blanket. Also, some of our fancy stitches could be used around both items!
Beautiful! Tracy, you are so smart!
Love that flannel!
I made about a dozen receiving blankets for my daughter when she was expecting our granddaughter, because I remember how versatile they were when I had my babies. You can use them as blankets, swaddles, burp cloths, towels, pads for diaper changes…so many things! Then when baby has completely outgrown them (about age 3-4) they make great dolly blankets or even dust rags. My daughter loves hers so much, she said she’s giving every new mom in her circle receiving blankets. Grandbaby #1 is almost 3, and my daughter is now expecting baby #2, and all the blankets I made are still in terrific shape, despite countless washings. I might make a few new ones, though, using your method. That corner miter is genius! ❤
I love this tutorial, I too can't wait to try it. Thanks Tracy in Idaho
Very pretty style top you’re wearing. 😊 Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
17:19 -- I know this is "The Sewing Channel" but your nails and cuticles look so healthy and beautiful!
There's your random compliment for the day. 😉🤩❤
LOLOLOL💅🏻🤣 Thank you❤️
Beautiful corner thanks for teaching me it
❤❤❤ this technique! Thanks for sharing 👏🏼
Your are so talented. Love this technique 🥰
Nice project. 🎉
Loved the info,helpful
This is a wonderful tutorial! I will definitely try this. Thank you!
Great tutorial! Best mitered corner. Thanks!
Great job! Thank you for the great instructions.
Love this. I was going to say that receiving blanket would be perfect with the quilt you just made for your grandbaby.
Love your red polka dot circle
Nice tutorial! TFS. 😊 Never thought about doing mitered corners that way. Oh and the Dritz hot hem has the straight markings on the back. I also have the 18 inch one for draperies. Massive time saving tools. Love them 🎉
Flannel can do some strange things. I always prewash it all my friend.
I love the receiving blanket and enjoy watching all your videos. I learn a lot from them. My only issue is that I would put the label on the reverse side . When you buy designer clothing, the labels are on the inside of the garment. Just my humble opinion. 😊.
Love that mitered corner. Thanks!
Great video, great technique getting that corner so professional. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing how to make a mitered corner. ❤️👍👍
Just want to say thank you…..great lesson.
You did a great job Tracy I will try this out!!!

Great idea and video!
Love this 😊
That is magic! I still don't understand the geometry, but it obviously works.
I made a red and blue flannel and I had o wash it about six times!
I thought this video was awesome you know I have been sewing for many, many years for family and I have always had a hard time with mitered corners they are always a challenge for me I really needed this video I thank you whole heartedly for this!!!God Bless you!!!❤
Hi Tracy! It's always good to have baby gifts made up just in case.
I've never seen the batman ears thing before. You're such a good teacher!
Those colors and that cute pattern will go perfectly with your clown quilt!
I hope you're having an awesome week!
Could use the recieving blanket as the wrapping for the quilt.
Love the ears!
Great miter instruction .. but I'm not sure I like the flip side unfinished .. what about another piece of flannel cut square to size and tucked under the hem and stitched together when sewing the hem .. would add to the cost but .. 🤔
Thank you for such a fantastic tutorial! That’s why I love watching you! You are always teaching us something new!
I always prewash because I had a red that bled!
Wow !! Great tutorial. Enjoying the replay ❤
Excellent lesson. The quilt and the receiving blanket are darling together. Thanks for the bonus peek at the raw edge rose qaug. I love that quilt and I love that video.
Funny, I bought one of those metal rulers like 30 years ago. Too funny.
Loved the corner idea!
I bought a wool a hot hemmer From MadamSew
Did you make or buy your labels? If you made them, do you have a tutorial on how to make them? They would be perfect for me. I really like this tutorial on how to “class up” a receiving blanket. Thank you.
Link in info box on where to get the labels✅
Wow beautiful corners and awesome video! Thank you!
👍
So did you fold the raw edge in after mitering & before sewing it down?
❤
❤❤❤
Can you do those corners with quilt binding, they look so good.
I think you could if you are using the backing to bind your quilt.
I’ve a question about washing fabric. You said you always wash red and green. What do you do with fat quarters and jelly rolls? Will washing with the color savers after construction protect the rest of the colors? I’ve sewed all my life and never pre-washed until I had three blouses shrink after 1st washing. I would sure appreciate your expertise
and advice. Thank you. Joyce Gross
Great question Joyce. If it is a precut fabric then i do not prewash EVER. But, always use color catchers no matter what✅ Hope that helps❤️
@@TheSewingChannel That really helps. Thank you so much. Your teaching and sharing is the best.
I could see better on mat than white piece of paper.
What is the make of your iron?
Hi Tracy, Let me begin by saying I LOVE your videos. I have learned so much! I have to say my overall was the video with you cooking. I was in the sewing room chuckling to myself. My hubby had to see what was going on. He watched it with me. We were both laughing and enjoying it. Thank you for the giggles. May I ask which flannel you use? For the receiving blankets, I was looking at the nursery flannel. With the sale and I have a 25% off coupon, it makes the flannel $2.62 a yard. I have never used this type of flannel. I have to do something to help my bottom line. If you could give me some advice I would be grateful.Thank you!
Thank you Vickie for the kind feedback❤️ I tend to use a lot of flannel from Joann fabrics...it's called "super snuggle". That is so cute that you and your hubby watch sewing videos together ❤️
Those LaraStar irons are way too expensive. I have had my Rowenta for over 30 years and it's still going strong and doesn't spit water. I have always use distilled water. Back then though it was $200ish. 😀
Can you use this technique for a binding on a quilt? If so please let me know so I can see the tutorial.
Yes...here's a video on it ✅ czcams.com/video/ZgDWu3-kltE/video.html
@@TheSewingChannel THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH TRACY 💖
Which model of the Laurastar do you have?
The Lift in black✅
Is that rotating ironing pad? I need one 😊
Are you Italian. You swore in Italian, not really a bad word
That phrase was handed down from my Italian grandmother 🤣 habit! Lol
Funny I picked it right up. Me being 100% Italian.
