Oh my gosh, I just bought some water soluble tear away, which works great, but this method is genius. I bought a whole 12" thick role of freezer paper along time ago and only use it for applique. I see this will really be helpful. Thank you and congratulations, 400K. Think of all the people you've helped, you've worked hard to make so many of us better at what we love.

Freezer paper was one of the star quilting supplies back in the early 1990s before we had so much bespoke kit for quilting. I used it for all of these things back then. I think I still have that roll. I started quilting again 2 years ago after a 25+ year hiatus (and have actually just about completed my UFOs from back then-two on their way to longarmer, one has two sides of hand sewing binding left, and two more completely done!)

our quilting group at church makes 'comfort quilts' with scriptures in some of the blocks... in word i insert a text box and size it to what i need for the block... pick a font and type out the scripture... print...using a light box... lay the printed scripture on the light box and tape it down... iron freezer paper on the back of the block you want the scripture on. the tape that on top... fabric up.. freezer paper stabilized the fabric...we use pigma graphic pens (archival ink) 1.0 is a good size tip for tracing. none of us can print or write that well... so tracing the scripture onto the fabric... it looks professional... peel the paper off...we set the ink with a hot iron... and sew into the quilt... wish i could post a pic... but you should try it...we use black...but i think that have other colors...sharpies are not as perennate as you think... have fun

I am in Australia and have never had to buy freezer paper by the metre. Hobbysew sell it by the roll. Am working on a Dear Jane quilt and found it very good for FPP the very small pieces - I punch holes along the seam lines with my sewing machine needle (minus any thread) then sew directly along the lines, the paper is then quite easy to tear away. Congratulation on your continued growth. It was fun to listen to a friend who just discovered you, a kid in a candy store! On freezer paper, if you want it thicker, you can iron sheets together [help if you iron them first before layering], also for longer strips, just over lap them, iron and you have a longer strip. Also, you can iron cut outs to a quilt top and then quilt around them, no markings on the top.

A couple other thoughts for freezer paper. If you have a sublimation printer, you can fuse a sheer polyester interfacing/ embroidery stabilizer to freezer paper and run it through your printer to print foundation pieces. Heat set the ink to make it permanent. Sew on the lines and trim like you would with foundation paper piecing. The stabilizer is left in your final piece without adding significant thickness. And it stabilizes all your biases. The best part is you can see the lines from both sides for fabric placement.
Next, you can fuse tissue patterns to the plastic side of freezer paper. Iron the patterns first to remove wrinkles, then fuse. It's fairly permanent and strengthens the patterns for reuse.
Finally, you can fuse multiple layers of freezer paper together, plastic side of one to paper side of the next, to make stiffer template pieces. Works nicely for applique or other template uses.

Another great group of lessons on freezer paper, I especially like the idea of printing labels on to fabric. I did hand write and embroider my first couple of quilts but that soon went by the way. I confess I have been lazy the last 5 or so years, I have made about a dozen quilts for charity and thought a label didn’t matter on them, but I need to rethink that attitude now 😊😊

Foam hand soap reduces water use. I used it in the preschool room because it rinses quickly and completely from little hands.

You know, I love bold colors and certainly am drawn to certain colors. The thing I love most about quilting is the variety of colors, moods and themes you can create and get out of your head, moving to great additions to projects rather than limiting yourself. Some of my best times are created when I have a shared concept with a person I am making the quilt for! 😊
