    The right promotes its religion with the 10 commandments, the left promotes its religion with a rainbow flag. Leave the kids alone and leave it to the parents.

    Here in Louisiana. Just missed this live-streaming. I'm immensely frustrated with our legislature with the 10 Commandments being in public schools. Governor Jeff Landry is WELCOMING lawsuits against him, saying "I can't wait to be sued". It's like he KNOWS he's violating the 1st Amendment and the general idea that religion is a private matter. It's disgusting. Believe what you want, but don't force it on others.

      Maybe he thinks he'll win or get pro-religion publicity that will attract voters. We need another Enlightenment.

      The amendment at issue simply says that the central gov can not set up an established religion. The laws noted here do not violate that.

    • @joshuagould548
      @joshuagould548 Před měsícem +1

      @johnl5316 Yes they do. The sponsors of the Bill specifically said that the 10 Commandments are the foundation of what America is, and have gone as far as saying (paraphrasing) "if we want more people to follow the law, first they need to know the world's first laws, Moses' laws".

    • @joshuagould548
      @joshuagould548 Před měsícem +1

      @johnl5316 Also, they're not giving some arrangement of many religions. They've chosen a specific religion to be representative of what moral ideals should be followed, and have it plastered in places where kids have to go BY LAW. It's indoctrination, and establishes a code of values that are none of the government's business (except killing and stealing).

      @@joshuagould548 That is not the central gov in Washington establishing an official religion.. This is a state. Even what you describe is not the establishment of an official religion for the state, which is not banned by the constitution

    Always clear thinking and consistent critique that renders useful and pertinent understanding of these deeply important issues. I especially appreciate the level-up view of the broader principle of 'intellectual freedom,' at stake, not simply the apparent immediate issue of 'which ideology should be promoted?' rather: how can intellectual freedom be guaranteed to prevail in education? And also, thank you for highlighting the reference material available for further personal exploration.

    Your observation of "if you can't beat 'em; join 'em" is quite sharp. Judeo-Christianity and Ecolotry have the very same idea of what constitutes Paradise
    There is one route that can be used. What got prayer kicked out of public schools was the idea that you could not have a non-sectarian prayer. Protestants hold to private, individual and in some cases, literal, interpetation of the Bible. Catholics do not. Beyond that, they two major divisions of Christianity use two different Bibls. One is the King James Version and the other the Douhey-Rheims Version. So which one will be taught from. Anhd what about the Qu'ran. It is regarded as a legitimate religious document in the West
    I noticed some 38 years ago, a campaign by the CONservatives that the "wall of separation" is not in the Constition, which, literally, it is not. However, in his speech on the matter. Jefferson coined that term to state what was meant. So one can see the beginnings of the mentaliity if delusion that led to Trump's nomination, was beginning over 3 decades ago. This is the upshot of that campaign

      The constitution does not allow government schools. But because they exist the rest of the constitution needs to be interpreted in that context. Children are learning and susceptible to authority figures. Such postings will tend to establish certain ideas in their minds unless they are very critical thinkers. If you get government out of schools then you can have private schools based on whatever religious ideas you want.

    Regarding Oklahoma, must the lessons paint the Bible in a positive light? Can I develop lessons that demonstrate the detrimental effects of the Bible? For example, can I teach how the Bible promotes the philosophy of original sin that results in racism against Chinese ?

    • @steventao7020
      @steventao7020 Před měsícem

      The real tragedy of Western Civilization is the philosophy of original sin. In the West it is widely believed that all humans are born guilty and must be saved by Jesus Christ before they can be accepted by society. Chinese people do not meet this criteria unless they convert to Christianity so the West views Chinese as immoral infidels, not as fellow humans. I think that it is crucial to remember this when doing business between China and the West. I personally reject this evil philosophy and endeavor to improve business relations between China and the West.

      Teach about 2000 yrs of Christian political murders, heretic burning. And dont forget the Christian practice of slowing melting heretics inside a metal container. Suffering is a moral duty. Teach about priests raping boys. Teach about the 16th and 17th century Christian wars between Protestants and Catholics. Teach about entire medieval towns hysterical with religion.

    The idea that rules like "do not murder" and "do not lie" and "do not steal" are "anathema to the Founding of the United States" is the silliest thing I have heard all day, and I have listened to clips of both Democrats on the Presidential ticket today. Sacrificing reason to faith contradicts the Enlightenment Founding of the United States. Christianity is a method for destroying the mind's focus onto reality and replacing it w/imagination. Its one small step away from howling, gibbering, drooling insanity.

    • @TeaParty1776
      @TeaParty1776 Před měsícem

      You define by non-essentials. The basic property of of religion is faith,not the application of faith in judging murder and theft. Religion is often, arbitrarily combined w/rational ideas. That does not justify faith and sacrifice. You evade 2000 years of blood-drenched Christian politics. You evade the Enligbhtenment, the only rationally individualist culture in history. You evade 400 yrs of radical cultural change from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment. There is no way to use crucifixion to justify the right to life, liberty andf the pursuit of happiness. Youre a compromiser. And ignorant of fundamentals. Christianity is the black mass of death worship.
