- Hello,
Today we are in the backroads of Mitchell County, NC to look at the famous Beam's Chinese American Restaurant and Motor Lodge. This property has been abandoned since 2004, from opening in the 1930's and was an extremely popular restaurant around this area in NC. I am still researching about the history of this place.
Thank you so much for watching and I appreciate your support. Filmed on a Canon g7Mark II.
Here is an interesting article about the history of the place and how popular it was. I am still researching this place and the property: news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1665&dat=19840502&id=1bsbAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Rk4EAAAAIBAJ&pg=6338,752182
thanks for sharing - might be some interesting sights inside the building
It was a wonderful place 20 years ago. One of the best...
The owners wife is very sweet lady. I take care of her at work. ❤ Lots of stories i hear from her . Everybody loved that restaurant i was never lucky enough to go there.
I live in Spruce Pine. There is no way for me to describe to you how much I loved that restaurant. Phenomenal food.
That restaurant was said to be haunted years ago. I had friends that worked there in the mid-90s that had ghost stories to tell. I wouldn’t want to be alone in there now. The owners lived above the restaurant and sat in recliners watching tv in the waiting area. Their son-in-law was the amazing chef. Best Sweet and Sour Chicken ever! Still get a hankering for it all these years later. I remember there being a large decorative bottle collection on display. That may be what you can see through the window. Thanks for the video!
Wow
I remember eating here when I was young. They had beautiful, large aquariums full of fish to watch while you ate. The food was amazing back in the day. And yes that wood has been stacked there a long time. lol
It's actually in Avery County. That was the best food ever! It was always a treat for us to get food from Beams!
Sounds awesome!
Wow that was a nice find. 😎👍I hope you can go back and explore the inside sometime. It's amazing that the same owners operated that restaurant for 68 years. It must have been a pretty popular place. It seems a lot of the family members still live in that area. They probably still own the land.
Almost stole that RV to become a nomad hahaha jk
I love that we can appreciate these beauties through your lens.
agreed
Just “found” this place today with a friend. We had some of the exact same comments and observations as you. Today however we found that the pond has gorgeous pink water lilies growing!
Wow, that is cool! I am also a CZcamsr.
My grandparents just lived maybe a mile on up the road on the right. My Aunt and Uncle used to have a gem shop on the road below my grandparents. They have all passed away.
We would travel from Blowing Rock about once a month on Saturday night to eat there back in the 70s. ❤
Good morning K.T🙂💙 this was quite the beaut but spooky looking place to be alone at.
I'm glad you didn't go inside I'd hate you to get hurt and there was so much stuff everywhere.
I'm the same I believe sometimes you just have to appreciate these places from the outside.
The old petrol pump at the end was really cool.
Looks like it's Definitely seen healthier days in its time I bet the food was amazing though..
Much love my friend have a blessed weekend I hope whatever your doing your having a blast and having fun adventures.
I agree, creepy, but probably had awesome food then! I'm also a CZcamsr if you'd like to visit my channel.
Interesting find.
You really do need to get Ray Ray out there with you, LOL!
I can remember eating here as a child. Was such an amazing place to eat. Remember as you walked through the front door there was a little old man or lady that sat there greeting everyone.
I worked there in 1985-1987. It was something. Very sad to see what has become of my high school memories . The restaurant was great. The motel was not doing much at the time.
Oh, wow
This entire area hardly makes any sense. All the chopped wood. The BBQ grills. The Trailer. So Much useful things left behind, like everyone just walked away at the same time. Unless something is done with it soon, more people will start showing up and break in eventually. I could really feel the tension in the beginning but eased off a bit after a while. Seems like it would have been an amazing to place to visit in its prime. Amazing video hope to see more!
Yes so much weirdness! Lol thank you for watching! Always gotta look for clues in those abandoned places hahah 👍🏻✨
I live near here. There area lot of stories about it. Sadly, I wasn't alive to experience this place as it was apparently phenomenal back in the day. I've visited the ruin just out of sheer curiosity due to always driving by it. There is a lot of stuff there, and it moves around so I think there are a number of homeless living there. It's rather eerie and I wish there was more information and pictures from its heyday.
You haven't filmed in a few years. Always enjoyed your stuff Kimberly.
Thank you!
I really enjoyed that. 👏🧡
thanks Kitschy
Thank you for coming in the chat as well!
How completely rad and stunning! The signage is to die for.
I want that sign in my bedroom lol
Great Video Kitschy love when you find abandon places to explore. Thanks
Thank you!
Nice exploration video Kitschy!
Thank you!! ✨👍🏻
Great explore good to see you back exploring again Kitschy :) Loved the tour :)
Thank you!
I lived all my life at the top of the hill..they had the best food Ever went sleigh riding a lot in the winter as we called it the old road after they built a new one it once was a busy busy place shame it’s rubbed down now my father remodeled the outside of the restaurant great memories
Loved this... very nice explore! 👍
What an awesome find. Very interesting! Curious how everything is still in place, basically undisturbed. 😮 But I'll agree, it is very scary and eerie. I watch a lot of these kinds of things but this one really disturbed me. I have been blessed with being an intuitive, but have not honed my skills but I didn't all that honing to feel a very dark feeling, I felt fear but not mine but the danger is there. You are very brave but I would do it again as it was great but there is safety in numbers sometimes. Be blessed! ❤
This place was always a mystery, but an interesting one! We drove both from Asheville and from Blowing Rock just to go to this great destination Chinese restaurant in the "middle of nowhere" for years!
Great video. Awesome
Thank you!
How sad to see what the restaurant has become. I've had many good meals there in my younger years. It was actually an answer to one of the old Hollywood Squares questions concerning the best Chinese Restaurant in the United States.
It was an answer to a Jeopardy question as well. Nobody got the right answer.
I always knew I was getting close to Grandma's house when I seen Beams 17:03
You have guts!
Lol thank you!
they just recently tore the sign down, I have lived here on and off since 1986, and I don't actually remember it being open
Oh, so the sign is gone now?
@@janiefender just recently I noticed it . I have been here on and off since 86 and it's been here, I don't remember the restaurant being open. I've never had the nerve to go back in there. I didn't realize it opened in the 1930's. Learn something new every day
Hi Kitschy, are you doing anymore videos?
I'm wondering that to....have a great day🙂
someone use to live in the main building .they must have left recently or just been gone .
You are a brave woman!
The best Chinese restaurant I ever ate at. And the best Oolong tea...
Love Oolong tea!
Sure do miss your explore videos Kitschy, I wonder if I’ll ever know why you quit posting 😢
Good food. Good memories.
my family owned property there in Spruce Pines, and would stay a week or so during the Summer, when us kids were out of school. I went here with them on one of those visits and my cousin lit one of the airswick scent dispenser's on fire with a lighter I had and it nearly burnt the building down. We were little devil's, the two of us were. 😈
You always go to the most interesting place's young pretty lady. 🙃
Thank you for watching
Full watch on replay. I don’t know why, but it seemed really creepy to me. Can’t imagine why all the firewood and junk was there? Maybe someone tried to have a small flea market there? Weird. Certainly was an interesting video. 👍💕😊
Thank you so much! ❤️💕✨
Hey Kitschy; I turned around in that parking lot once. Bout 4 dogs surrounded the car. Had to be careful!
This land is very much used by people. Hoarders, to be specific. I wouldnt of set foot without being armed. Also on a reddit post, some people claim they hear voices in distress and cant find the people. Read something a few years ago Beams had multiple chicken cages and had issues with salmonella and people reported the quality of life to the animals. The building does in fact have an underground area which i would assume housed the animals that they would slaughter
Hey im hunter speer i live here in spruce pine nc and also enjoy exsoploring abandon places here in nc. Ive been here to.
That's a really good find with very interesting that would be awesome if you Took somebody along with you and went inside the place I would be dying to know what that restaurant looked at before it became what it is now. I don't so like to know what was it that made that restaurant close in the motor lodge Also that cage you mentioned kind of looked from the distance like it might have been a bird cage for a large parrot
I wonder how the fishing is in that pond?
Probably good!
My Uncle Ramey owned that business.
Just drove by Beam’s. That sign has held up for decades. I remember it being open as I drove by to see my best friend at Appalachain State University. People would park down the drive, it would be so full. Now the new road takes the traffic another way. I wasn’t posted No Trespassing but going inside the buildings would break the law. Thanks for spotlighting this treasure from the past. p.s- I’m not sure if those bushes are privet hedge or boxwood. Boxwood is used to make the most beautiful wreaths for Christmas and live well over 100 years. Most old farms here in Western North Carolina have a few boxwood still growing.
Eerie or what? What a strange collection of things. I wonder if homeless ppl hangout there. That must have been quite the place back in the day.
Yes very strange!
Scary!
I'm still scared! lol
This is a great location !! Thanks :)) Why did you not go inside ?!
Locked up
I wanna know what’s in that package! Cool place.
I have very faint memories of eating there as a child.
🙂
So who actually owns it now? Would love to see this fixed up and used again.
I live where that’s at lol my mom n her ex actually worked there it’s always always been creepy 😅
wow - it was off the path a little wasn't it? cool! looks like the scene in a stephen king movie :) lots of salvage still - that's odd -
Thanks for watchin!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That place is kinda creepy
It was!
That Pepsi machine looked like it was in decent condition.
I thought the same thing!
Ive ate there. Shows how old I am lol 😂
