Abandoned Chinese Restaurant - Teppanyaki Grill & Buffet

  • Sitting along a busy stretch of road near Scranton Pa. sat a popular restaurant. It first opened as a Golden Corral, after that Charlie Browns steakhouse used this location for a few years. Finally a Chinese Buffet moved in. Open since 2010, Teppanyaki had large crowds in its first several years of operation but that slowly began to change. Rumors starting going around about the quality of food, but it wasn't until i drove by a few days ago that i noticed it was closed up. After doing a quick search online, i found several sites and articles showing that it failed numerous health inspections. An auction was held earlier this month to sell off all remaining equipment. The future of this place is unknown, but if any changes do occur, i will follow up about it. Enjoy
Please Note: Exploring Abandoned locations can be dangerous. I don't condone or encourage anyone to enter an Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, i seek out permission. I simply go to document its history before it's gone and leave things the way I find them. I assume all the risks & responsibility in doing so. Please don't attempt to do this on your own.

With the health issues they had, I am not surprised they closed. I went in there once a while back. The food was not appealing at all and I walked out without even being seated. I noticed patrons were being hinted to hurry up when I was there.

I work at Spirit Halloween right across the road from this place and I KNEW it looked like a Golden Corral at one point. It’s a AAA office building now. I always guessed it was a Golden Corral or some other restaurant because of how absurdly large the parking lot is.

Another great video you do an excellent job always. We had a City Buffet here in Seymour - it was a Chinese restaurant delicious food and my family and I ate there frequently. Last month seems overnight it closed because of poor health reviews. I don’t know enough about how they store their food but we never had any problems and we miss the place - The food was delicious and the price was good it’s a shame that they get closed down .

Just drove by there today. Was going to eat there but realized it was being totally redone. Found out it was shut down. Ate there earlier this year or last year I think. Was always good when we were there. I recognize it was dumpy and super grimy but we enjoyed the food. Went to royal buffet and wow I wish we had known about it sooner. Much better ! Is this place really going to be office spaces ?

I believe the former Pizza Hut restaurant up on Route 6 was also a Chinese buffet for a short while. FYI: Roma Pizza(which moved out of the Viewmont Mall when Buffalo Wild Wings took part of their spot) has a fantastic pizza buffet till mid afternoon. They're up in the former Entenmann's Bakery Outlet building up closer to where the closed Kmart was.

I didn't know about the health department issues. I never really got sick from eating there. Now if you were talking about the Chinese buffet that was in the South Side Shopping Center in South Scranton, THAT was a pig sty. The carpeting closest to the busing station where they took the dirty plates to put into trays bins to take to the back to wash was grey/brown/black and sticky.
Fun fact about that place is that I think they only really covered up the front facade from when it was ACME(then Insalaco's later on) and left behind the fish eye logo from Acme under there somewhere. There's also a former Acme down in Duryea area. It's a mile or two from the Pittston Kmart. It's now a medical plaza.

I would love to see kitchens all in glass so everyone can see how things are done in the kitchen. I have heard food falls on the floor and goes right back in the pan. I just don't like that. would they do that to there own family, I don't think so. Good find JP. You are top notch.

Teppanyaki Grill & Buffet, 941 Viewmont Dr., Scranton, May 16. Regular r inspection; out of compliance. Violations: restaurant not open for scheduled inspection restaurant had scheduled inspection was not open for business for visit. Food observed in the kitchen/bain marie area, slimy to the touch not wrapped from previous night/spoiled. Food was discarded as no conclusive explanation was given as to why food not dated, sorted, wrapped and secured. Records not accessible day of inspection which was scheduled. Excessive food residue not being pre-scraped from dishes prior to ware washing. Food facility does not have enough outside waste receptacles as evidenced by refuse and waste lying on the ground. I know was built as a Golden Corral originally.Buffets dying out too many patrons going to these that eat too much of the more expensive entrees and unacceptable"take out"with same expensive entrees with freezer bags in large women's handbags. The same people that leave no tips for dining room wait staff making these style restaurants even more difficult to keep staffed.Big reason these always transitioned to Chinese is front & rear staff is usually illegal immigrants. But Chinese are used to"looser"health, food and sanitation standards than US🇺🇸and eventually are closed when unannounced spot inspection happens after complaints to state and county health depts.🆑Then abandoned, building left in such bad, filthy and decrepit condition guarantee's it's demolition. But libs keep telling people illegal immigration isn't that big a deal.😲
