    Made it 23600 with my MA2 the other day, mostly flat ground and fields around me, signal holds solid... Landed with 21% left, I was impressed..

      The moisture in tree leaves attenuate microwaves, which are exactly what the 2.4/5.8 Ghz bands of these drones operate with.

    Thumbs up. I still think when there are trees blocking signals the mavic pro will win distance because it uses very low frequencies. Higher frequencies are smaller and get blocked easier. Thats why I used 1.3ghz video on some of my builds long ago because 5.8ghz had little tree penitration. The real difference I think is between ocusync 1 and ocusync 2. Ocusync 1 uses 20mhz, 10mhz and 1.4mhz which should have far better tree penetration. I still like the air 2 because the trade off is worth it. Is it the first with the feature to move the camera around and see the front booms and props? Cool

    I have the Mavic Air 2 and when flying it over a lake twice so far I have had it over 10,000 feet away and the video signal and everything else was clear as can be with no issues. In the right environment the Mavir Air 2 can do up to 18k to 20k feet distance as is shown in other videos on YT. I don't have any experience with the Mavic 2 Pro but I was surprised that it did go farther for you.

      If I might say, if you can go to a fully open field of sorts and do a range test.
      Be certain to FULLY charge your battery, remote and phone.
      I heard somewhere to also disable Bluetooth and otherwise put the phone in "airplane mode"
      One more thing... you may need to do a factory reset and update all firmware. I've also heard that the Fly app for some needed to be deleted and re-installed.
      Best of luck...

    Beware, I saw a video showing you can put the wrong props on the wrong motors so make sure the colors match. I think previous models had a safety built in so this could not happen, not sure why they would remove a safety feature. It may not take off if the props incorrect but it could flip over. I use a check list which stopped me forgetting the gimbal clamp. Before power on I check the clamp is removed, the props correct and undamaged, battery levels on phone radio and mavic and the cord is connected to phone. Then I start it and make sure camera moves freely. I do this when updating indoors even with no props because thats where I would forget the clamp.

    Curiously I was flying both on the weekend and the MP2 was dropping out at around 500m. There was direct line of sight over the ocean and I was using the SmartController. I had a ND2000 filter fitted and not sure if this was affecting signal strength (more power used to boost the image???). The MA2 had no problems and I was getting much further range.

    • @izoyt
      @izoyt Před 4 lety

      it is well known flying with sc get you little bit less range (but not a big deal) , but 500m is way to short for m2p, specially in line of sight. it is very important, how you turn your antenna (always perpendicular to the drone) etc, so pay attention to that.

    • @stephendoggett190
      @stephendoggett190 Před 4 lety

    I have these two Drones (with mavic mini) and the comparaison is very interesting. The result seems to be normal to my mind for the rang because mavic 2 air is less expensive and the quality of m2pro is better (for the double of the price). For the rth it is awesome for both.
