Unit 4: Ten Jazz Standards is the culmination of all the rhythmic, melodic and harmonic information presented in units 1-3. Perfect your vocal improvisation!
Each selection from the Great American Songbook includes the original melody, transcribed solos and two open choruses for students to practice interpreting the melody or improvising original solos over the chord changes.
Each scat solo includes specific syllables, articulation markings, and anticipations along with a variety of standard phrasing techniques used in solo development.
Students can learn each solo entirely by ear and will be pleased to know that a sustained arco string track is included in every arrangement to make the harmonic chord progression more audible and crystal clear. All the musical arrangements are stylistically diverse and offer a contemporary potpourri of grooves including jazz swing, Latin, Funk Shuffle, Reggae and half-time feel.
