Hey guys! If you're like us and can't wait to go sailing⛵️🌊⛵️ make sure to give the video a thumbs up 🙏🙌🍻
I already hit the 👍 button I cannot hit the 👍 button anymore, I tried. 🤘😁👍
Well done both of you looking fantastic ! 🤩🤩🤩
Excellent job on the boat, it looks lovely. For $30,000 you have a top of the range boat!
For the Dodger.... wet sand it then polish it.
watch video's about restoring headlights
The boat looks great! Can't wait till you'll get sailing again.
Matt and Kristen, you have done a fine job on the project, managed your funds, and you're still together! Now a personal request, please stay together, there are several couples within your CZcams sailing community that have fallen apart. Keeping it real after investing time and emotions into getting acquainted with you all through the CZcams platform I'm grateful that you allow us to come along for few minutes each week! Not sure how everyone else feels, but y'all are kind of like family! Wishing you the best! Cheers!
I agree, you guys are a great couple. You absolutely compliment each other. Remember it’s the differences that make two individuals one.
It feels weird for me to say this but.. yes ... Not sure how I got so invested but... Yes
Well said Paul. There is so much beauty in this partnership. The reason I like watching, is exactly that. This couple displays beauty through partnership, perseverance, and humility. GO GBU! Greetings from No Va.
Well said. But I am not worried. You can fake a lot of things on CZcams and social media, but the way these two look at each other is as real as it gets. Looking forward to hearing how the boat sails because she just LOOKS a heckuva lot lighter...hopefully that gives you another knot or two, which is huge for how much sailing you do! Good luck!
Great gob, hope you have many Great adventures, thanks for the inspiración, found many of the same problemas in my 1975 Formosa 41, sometimes feel like giving up, or selling, you did it!!!
You asked for advice regarding your plastic windows. I have been boating for 50 years and plastic windows (hard and flexible) suffer from sun damage. To help protect the windows you need to use cleaners specifically designed for cleaning plastic. If you use household products they often contain ammonia; the ammonia will dry the plastic and make it fog.
If you use plastic cleaning products they contain ingredients that protect and condition, some have UV protection. Always pre rinse the window and use clean soft brushes or clothes to remove grime. Most paper products are abrasive to plastics so avoid them.
The quality of the plastics and cleaners makes a huge difference, buy the best you can afford. Always read the labels on cleaning products, if they don't say they are safe on plastic don't use them on plastics. Motercycle cleaning products often say they are safe for plastics.
Congratulations on completing your retrofit. You have accomplished something to be proud of.
Looking forward to watching your continued journey.
You two managed to build not only a very nice boat, but a hell of a resume. To end up with a boat that looks as good as yours does, coupled with the experience you now have, is worth well more than what the supplies cost. Good work; boat work, carpentry work, video work, all of it! Looking forward to see where you two go.
Matt try the mother's headlight restorer kit. It will polish the plastic.
If you can't find that, you can always try regular Turtle Wax automotive wax for the dodger!
You might want to try WD40 I used that as a cleaner and was surprised. It cleaned up headlights. It might work on the plastic windshield.
You have a &100,000.00 Boat now. Because you did it yourself. It was money well spent for all the patrons. Great job Matt and Christin.
Hey SAILERS!!!! I wanted to share a cheap an easy hack you, it blew my mind when I tried it. If you have a little rust on the rails or rust on shiny metal try this simple hack. Get a bucket of fresh water an some aluminum foil, that's RIGHT ALUMINUM FOIL. Take some foil, smash it into a small ball an dip it in the water. Now all you have to do is rub the wet foil ball on the rust like your scrubbing something.
Hope it works for you like it did for me, Goodluck on your adventures. YOUR DOING IT😁😁😁😁
Hey folks ! For the dodger window try a good plastic cleaner/restorer polish that is made to restore car headlights/covers. It's worked great for me. Mine looked like your dodger window before I used it.
Ditto, its etched from acid rain.
I second this. You can also try toothpaste. That's a common thing for a short term plastic headlight lens restoration. 3M makes a great kit as well with a series of sandpaper and the polish. I bet that would work well.
I was about to say the same. Had a dockmate use it. Worked great. But their dodger looks better than mine..... Non existent..... But my window is clear 😁
I agree with the comments here. Your issue is not cleanliness - you are into the state of the plastic surface. Polishing is the answer!
Long-term you should replace the windows and fit studs to fix covers when you are not using the sprayhood. (NB I'm in the UK where this item is a 'sprayhood'. 'Dodgers' are rectangular pieces of fabric fixed to the rails either side of the cockpit, usually with the boat name prominently displayed.)
Two nations separated by a common language!! 🤣🤣
What I was going to say 🎉
What a wonderful project and all of us are amazed at Matt’s (Larry’s) carpentry talents! You guys truly deserve years of fun on your creation!
Baking soda and dawn dish soap works good on acrylic. NICE BUILD looking forward to you getting underway
*So the project wraps up and James Bondo has all of his fingers and toes and both eyes. Turn-Up Tina is scar free and didn't make James Bondo walk the plank in frustration. Over all a huge success!!! Thanks for taking us along on the journey. Now its time to enjoy each other and the boat as well.*
not going to lie at first i had serious doubts about how this refit was going to end and i was thinking how brave you guys were doing so for all the world to see and thank god for that old saying , Don't judge a book by its cover because i have never been so happy to be so wrong , you guys killed it and be proud of what you accomplished and yes it was 100% worth it !!! IMO guys ,,, build a hard dodger
Thanks Anne, it was a big project but it was rough living on the boat the way it was for 4 yrs.. we were motivated to get through anything lol
Anne I was with you and like you I’m so happy to be wrong!!!! Never will I doubt these two again !!!
What’s all over your solar panels?
Start the adventure again, just better!
Matt’s drink off is classic and exactly why I subscribe and live vicariously through you!
Congratulations again y'all! 👏. You not only have a remodeled vessel to enjoy, but most importantly you now have thousands of new friends that look at y'all like family now! that's the "greatest asset" that you now own and for that ....GBU is now legendary! 😀 ❤️
Big Congratulations on a fantastic job, looks beautiful. Yay, you beat the doubters but sure they are happy for you. It was looking a bit daunting at the start but big respect for your ploughing on through with humour love and integrity. Wish you all the best 🥂 👍 ✌
Congratulations on a job well done. The boat looks great, and your efforts and ingenuity have been inspiring.
For your dodger plastic windows, use Camco 210 Plastic Cleaner/Polisher Spray! Available from West Marine for $28.99. I used it on my old dodger that has really fogged plastic. It made it Crystal Clear! Seriously folks. It also puts a UV protectant on the plastic surface.
You could try headlight lens polish with a foam pad on a drill to clear up the “plastic glass “on your Bimini enclosure.Worth a try possibly. They make a plastic and acrylic polish compound just for your application on Amazon. Not sure what the grit difference is between the two but the automotive lens polish may be easier to purchase on the island. Great job you two.Awesome Awesome Awesome! I’m sure only the two of you know what you went through ,but thanks for sharing the journey with all of us .
The transformation to a modern, bright interior and serious upgrades are truly spectacular! Matt and Kristen, the skills you’ve developed are extraordinary for sure. You even survived hurricanes and apartment living. The mechanical upgrades were a basic need. So your $5000 boat is now a $50000 boat that is like new. From my boat experience for weekend fun two truly wonderful days were the day I bought it and the day I sold it. Totally different scenario. After all a boat is a hole you make in the water you throw money into. Again a fantastic job and I can’t wait to see your shake down cruise video.
BUT, this hole is your beautiful home, too. You always want just a few little extra touches for your personal home. I love everything you've done and you can be extra proud of yourselves. You earned it the old fashion way. Go get em tigers!!..lol
I would have tried CLR? It does remove scaling. Who know it might just work?
Fantastic job all around! You both pulled it off, great team work!
This was what I was thinking. Used it on various things including cheap plastic shower curtains and it worked well.
Hey guys great job on the boat! Here's a tip for the isinglass dodger, Flitz metal polish and a wool or microfiber ball or pad will clean that haze up and bring back the clarity! I've done quite a few that way!
The hardest working couple on CZcams without a doubt! Salute! 🥂
Wow, what a great job, for less than 10K to do that remodel? Wow. Your enginge and copilot cost practically as much as all the rest. So impressive! Now I can't wait to see you both go somewhere and just relax for an entire episode . . . . You have earned it.
Fantastic guys. You both have done so well, and it hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows. One thing people don't seem to talk much about is the psychological/emotional aspects of 'boat life'. Being able to work closely together, 24/7/365 can be a challenge for many people. There were times it came out in your videos that things were tense between you. Humor can be a valuable tool when things are tense. Matt -- a true captain at heart, with a great love for a woman and the sea. Always a joke, a smile and witty turn of thoughts, and a man's man. It is challenging enough to navigate the sea....just add a woman and sometimes, your preference is to a mistral. Being captain to such a one, either the woman or the mistral, requires a cool head and a warm heart. Kristen is a very talented young woman and is proving to be quite the producer and editor. Her sewing isn't bad either. Now, I wonder if you guys have prepared yourself for the little dings, scratches and dents that are undoubtedly ahead. She's pristine today, but once underway, things are just going to happen. You've done a just outstanding job on her, just prepare and accept those things. You guys are inspiring and so good together. What an accomplishment. Well done! Now --- relax and enjoy her.
Hi. I almost never comment, but this time I have to. I'm from the center of Europe, from country that doesn't have a sea, but everything about yachts and sailing attracts me even more. At the same time, I like to DIY. Your great videos tie it all together. I fount your channel over a year ago and I'm so glad I did. I wish you all the best and simply thank you!
I almost heart attacked at the 150 sheet plywood. I love you guys best sailing channel on the tube.
I truly love y’all! It’s incredibly satisfying to watch/listen to your on-going efforts to maintain and service your sailing home with your own hands and the huge learning that you teach us all in this process. Mega thanks! 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🙏👍🏼👍🏼
Larry did a fine job. Looking forward to seeing Matt and Big Momma sailing and reaping rewards of their combined efforts.
You two knocked it out of the park... Can't waait to see you under sail again, Congratulations...!!!
Guys, I believe in one of your early videos you said that a boat your size would cost at least a hundred grand, so even the five grand you paid and all the materials you used would still be under about thirty grand, but the most valuable thing you invested was ten months of your labor, which was priceless. I think that alone would take you over the cost of new, but I hope you made at least some of that with your CZcams channel and Patreon. We devoted fans all look forward to you guys getting back to your sailing adventures.
i rarely comment but want to whole heartedly congratulate you guys! I think you’ve both done a fantastic job. I started watching before the work but continued through the whole ordeal. I had to admit, I was worried on more than one occasion. This only proves that perseverance pays off. 🎉
Can’t wait for the sea trials. God bless and godspeed on your journey.
"this piece is 'insingrating'.." Great new word. it totally makes sense cuz it's describing exactly what's happing to it.
WOW! 25K is doing GREAT. I figured you'd be in for 40K. Time-a-get ta sailin. Cap'n Larry Laminado and First matie Kristen Hotness. Let the new adventures begin!!! Jibe HOOOOO!!
I smiled through that whole video, you can see how proud and relieved you both are, so awesome! I've been waiting every Sunday 10.30pm for the latest update, (I need to get a life), but I'm just as happy to see it done. Booze locker is sick as.. Matt used to store the booze in the bilge in earlier episodes lol 😆
So happy for you guys to finally see the fruits of your labor and take it from a pro, it looks great. Cost was actually about 50% less than I had estimated when you said a couple weeks ago that you were going to detail final cost. So a big "CHEERS" to the GBU team for a job damn well done!
"Hittin the sail" - I'll bet that felt good to say 🥰 Have fun guys!!!!
Matt & Kristen there is absolutely NO MORE GHETTO here!!! You both are officially Da Sailors! I am so proud of this episode. I have been here from the beginning and not going anywhere soon! AND, a small hint, you "MIGHT" have another rookie sailor trying to track you down on the HIGH SEAS soon! The good Lord may bless me to begin my dream - living & sailing my sailboat!!! You two are the best because you kept my dream alive! I loved how you previously sailed EVERYWHERE! Now, you can sail & motor anywhere "in style & grace." KEEP THE DREAMS ALIVE!
Hell ye Kevin!! Hope the dream comes true 🙌🙌
I have to tip my hat to you two! Your commitment to fix and work on this boat gave me a feeling that there’s still people with purpose in this world. And the energy to make it work! As someone who tried to rebuild an old boat before and ended gifting it to a friend because my lack of commitment, I really enjoy your videos. Guys, where you ever close to Chernobyl? Cause it will be the only explanation for your energy levels doing all the work on this project! One more thing, I’m puertorriqueño from San Juan living in Maryland and I love that you chose such a beautiful area to work on your boat. Thanks for sharing with us your enterprise and adventure!
great job both of you. Happy times ahead
since month I am assisting your videos. Congratulations for your persistance and patience. I know so many cupples, they start doing some project together and mostly it ends in divorce, separation, dead of the project and a lot of hate speach, missunderstandigs and trouble. Nothing of all this is happening with you, just incredible. Never loosing the humor, the love for each other and always remembering: There will be a tomorrow. What today did not work, perhaps tomorrow will do. I wish you all the best. See you next sunday.
Hey Guys, the Boat looks terrific! You diffidently needed the engine. Now let's go Sailing!!!!!!
Hey guys, love the channel. I’m a lifetime boater, current yacht broker, and owner of many boats. I’m still entertained by y’all, and there aren’t many sailing channels that are fun to watch. I highly recommend just unstitching the clear in your dodger, buy some strataglass, and replace with that. It will not deteriorate like that cheap stuff, and be a lot clearer every day. There are other similar products but Edison Irvine, the guy who invented strataglass, is a real wild man that deserves support. Keep it up!
I found your channel during the refit and seeing what the boat looked like before...man. I have no idea how you guys dealt with all that. Lol
I was so excited to see you guys update each week and this has been so nice to see the progress. I'm sure it's even more exciting for you guys! It looks really clean and much easier to maintain
Try a product called CLR ( calcium lime rust ) ! It's great on hard water calcium buildup lime build up and rust stains ! Keeps the calcium buildup up out of the toilet plumbing !
Try a paste of baking soda and dawn dish liquid, rub on then let dry a little, then spray with 8% vinegar and wash off and wipe dry
Congratulations Guys on a beautiful job 🎉🍾 You guys killed it! I followed your refit from the start and it was looking like a scary job but you guys just powered through it one thing at a time. It’s been inspirational watching you both and learning lots in the process. Thank you so much for sharing this journey. I can’t wait to watch your first sail! Cheers 🥂
Just can’t believe what a great job you two have done. Boat looks fantastic!
So much experience gained, and now you know your boat inside and out. Can imagine U 2 on a custom 55 foot cat within 3 years, enjoy the adventure. And remember, you only fire up a fatty when sailing into the wind, unless the coastguard are following you.
Hey Matt, what you need to do to clean/fix your Dodger window is... definitely don't use sand paper!!! What you need to do is get an automotive buffer. Then, using a light abrasive buffing compound, buff it till its pretty clear. Then wipe it clean with a standard cleaning agent. And finally, finish it off by buffing it again with some plastic polish, and by that point it should be almost as good as new 😉
GBU is looking good!!! Big step up! Can’t wait to see you guys with the wind in your sails!!!
You guys made great design choices and the craftsmanship is fantastic. The remodel really turned out classy. Congratulations!
No more BAD and UGLY! Great job! Lots of labor and it was done really well. Glad my boat did not need so much.
You guys were creative, skillful, thought outside the box. Darn good job. With no workshop .
What a great job the two of you have done, and at 25K I would have thought much more to complete what you have accomplished. Congrats on the new boat and many years of adventures to come!
Thanks so much for letting us know how much you had to spend for your update and refurbish. It really turned
out Super!!
Another home remedy for plastic windows is Deep Woods off bug spray with Deet in it. It works really well on older cars with foggy headlight lamps.
Looking forward to seeing you out on the blue wobbly stuff again, its been a long year but the boat looks fantastic and you must both be well pleased with the results of all your hard work.
You two really deserve each other, and I mean that in the most positive, respectful and admiring way. You are perfect together, I hope the shakedown sailing sessions go well GL Sailing GBU!
Did you mention the oven, I might have missed that. xx
EDIT: PS I wonder if power polishing the plastic window would give good results, using something like they use for cleaning the bloom on plastic headlights? Just a thought...
My exact suggestion for fixing that plastic. It isn't dirt buy micro-pitting causing it to loose transparency. A very fine grit polishing compound and a buffer would have it back to see thru in minutes...
@@PastorwithoutaPulpit Let's hope they try it! 👍
Use the wipe packages from 3M for taking the haze off headlights on your dodger, it should dry clear and make the plastic better to view through. If you need the 3M product, I have tons I can send you with an address.
I'll send them for free, just need address.
For the PVC 'glass' use a paint cutting compound as used on car bodies. I would use t-cut cheap and easily available. Great channel!
Another great video thank you both. The boat is looking like a million dollars and a huge difference from the old boat, hope the trials go well. The one item you missed of the cost list is your time, while you may think it was free because its your boat it is relevant to the value you have added to the boat. I guess you will also need to train the AP once your out and about, It has been a massive journey and you are still just as close as before and with a sense of humour 😊
That was not as much as I would have guessed. The content and education you gave the sailing community is practically priceless.
I remember you were contemplating a newer boat before you started this project. Do you feel you made the right decision?
Matt, skulling that juice as Kristen is signing off - classic! Good job guys, nicely done!
Congratulations to you both for your persistence and work ethic to make the refit look great! Best of luck with the shake down cruises and enjoy the journey! Cheers and Happy Halloween! 🎃🎃🎉
Thanks! For the dodger-Try convertible top window cleaner. It helps, but nothing is a cure once the weather gets to that plastic.--
I have loved the refit series. Brilliant work guys.
Thank you for sharing the money side of the renovation. So little money to end up with such a awesome finished product. Well done guys!
Matt and Kristen It's still a lot less than buying a new or second-hand yacht, I purchased my 2016 Beneteau 48 as a used yacht, and it was pushing £200,000 however I did get a little bit of change but not much, but you're refurbishment and your channel is outstanding. I've been ill unfortunately for over 12 months so I've watched your CZcams videos and thoroughly enjoyed them. Plus you are the only Sailing channel that doesn't advertise Athletic Greens Thank God !!!!!!! Fair Winds and Following Seas.⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
The only sailing channel I enjoy watching.....The others are infomercials & T&A!!
To use an overly used word on CZcams (but I’m gonna do it anyway!), Matt & Kristen, you guys are AMAZING! I was guessing $30,000, so you smashed it! Can’t wait to see you on the water. Best Wishes!
Great information. TY.
Looks awesome !
Looks Great!!!
Great job!
Looks awesome 🤩

Good work guys
You both did a wonderful job. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for the throw back from Alice Cooper. I can't believe you're finally done. Y'all did an amazing job. Let's go sailing 🌊🐬⚓😻⛵. Hugs from Texas sweeties 😎
Your awesome guys i love watching your vids thankyou.
Nicely done.
Greeaatt job, Guys!! Now it is time to enjoy it!!
Great job!! Money well spent, enjoy.
Make a paste of baking soda and water. Make a 3:1 mixture by combining 3 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 tablespoon of water. Use a spoon, dull knife or old toothbrush to mix the ingredients together until they form a paste.
The paste should have the consistency of toothpaste, so if it’s too runny or thick, adjust it with more baking soda or water. More baking soda will make it thicker, and more water will make it thinner.
Rub the paste onto the plastic. Use a cloth or an old toothbrush to apply the paste liberally onto the plastic, making sure to scrub any sticky grime.
Let the paste sit on the plastic. Allow the baking soda paste to sit on the plastic for 20 to 30 minutes. The baking soda will loosen the dirt on the plastic.
Remove the paste with a cloth. Use a wet washcloth to wipe the baking soda paste off the plastic. Rinse the washcloth periodically as you wipe.
Got this off WIKI.
So happy for U guys
Can't wait to see you guys back out on the water
Awesome job GUYS 🎉🎉🎉
Awesome job ready for the sailing to continue
Great job you guys what a fun journey that has been!
Thanks for sharing. Your boat looks awesome!
KUDOS you two. Awesome job.
Great Job on the boat! A lot of blood sweat and tears! But in the end, it's worth it! Now go sailing and see what you want to! Proud of you!
