The history of the cottage garden began in Britain but has become a beloved garden style throughout the world. This is my interpretation of the Cottage Garden, here in Hopalong Hollow; I call it a Medley of Harmonious Confusion.
We'll make an old fashioned Cottage posy as this weeks Bouquet

I am so happy I found your channel, you love all the things I love, my garden is a cottage garden in England, but I am Welsh, I was given a precious gift from my Uncle when I was 4 yrs old, he instilled in me the love of gardening! I had a tiny patch of my own, in a tiny garden, where he grew and nurtured so much! I thank him so much for that precious gift! I love my garden, my sanctuary, my place to sit and just be! 🌺🥀🌹🏵️💮🌸💐🌻🌼🌷

I've been a long time subscriber and have travelled your home tours on you tube many many times. It's soothed my heart and mind after turbulent times. Your garden is beautiful! I live in a house called Thistle Cottage in the north east of Scotland and although the weather is not so kind we grow a large variety of cottage garden plants. June is the most beautiful time for our garden and to hear the bees buzzing in their hundreds is wondrous. Herbs and flowers grow happily together and I really think that a cottage garden is the closest you can get to heaven on earth. As the rhyme goes ‘A touch of the sun for pardon, the song of the bird for mirth. You are nearer God’s heart in the garden, the happiest place on earth,’
Many Scots settled here in Tennessee because the landscape was so much like their home country. I am sure the gardens in Scotland are dreamy!
Your garden is indeed a work of art. And when you mention cottage garden all I think about is Sense and Sensibility. I tried to do something similar to what you are doing, starting by drawing where I wanted what and their potential for growth. However, one thing I was not counting for is the weather. This year we are experiencing very dry weather. Many of our plans are struggling and we are struggling to keep them hydrated. I wish I had good photos to share, but I rather wait to see if we get a good rain. It has not rained in weeks. Getting pretty dry. Aw, but your videos are so relaxing and beautiful. All the sounds a cottage garden brings; not only the birds but insects too. I could just fall asleep there.... well until a creepy crawler decides to climb up on me, then all peace is gone. Hahaha. Thanks for sharing.
The weather can really make or break our gardens; one year we had too much rain and it killed off dozens of my plants... you just never know... but we gardeners are a stubborn and hopeful bunch and we never give up! Right? It will all come together, just keep watering by hand and pray for rain!

I adore your scissor-cuttings! And they really do come alive once you paint them. I would love to own one! Your cottage garden is just lovely! I love hearing all of your outside animals making their noises off in the distance. Since I was a teen, I have loved antiques and have spent my life collecting them. The first vid I watched on your channel, was the kitchen tour. I was astounded at the amt. of antiques you displaced! I have a friend who also has our love of antiques, and sent her that video. She loved it as well, and subscribed. I love watching your "tea time." Thank you for sharing your life and your beautiful things with us!

The old neighbor guy made me a white picket fence to go around the yard.i planted red zinnas along side the front of fence.it was beautiful.

Jeri, Thank you for the tour of your cottage garden. I never knew the name of Spider Wart. I love that ! My mother had planted it in her yard border. I term your garden and unstructured garden. I plant the same way. Mine is mixed with vegetables, herbs and flowers. They all get along :-) It does seem to help to deter damaging insects. There is so much life going on. I spied a lovey tiny toad in my bean patch this morning. I like to put out little saucers of water and toad houses and butterfly houses. There is something magical about a secret garden that takes over once it is planted with care.
So true, mine is a tidy mess and I adore little toads!

Beautiful gardens, love the mix plants. There a feel of peace and love in every turn in the garden. I love American cottage gardens. My is small but I love sitting in it and enjoy the sounds of nature. I can sit on my front porch and watch the world go by.
I once read that a garden should be a series of continual delights as you walk the paths. You have the best seat, there on your porch.
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow There a story on why I brought this house. I went to look at it with out the Realtor just to see what the house had to say. I never did get into the house that day because the yard was crying for help there was car parts all over the place. But I heard the cry and that was 16 years ago. The front porch had be opened to become a real porch. Every body is happy now. Bunnies play in the clover Honey bee are coming back. Life is good.

Those cornflowers are a true blue, and so easy to plant from seed.

At my previous home IU had approximately 12 huge gardens and they were like yours. No ground exposed and every type of plant u could imagine. Mostly perennials. I did have Zinnias and a couple other annuals. I sure miss it all.

I am amazed at all the sounds I hear. It reminds me of childhood in the country in Maryland. I live in Oregon now. Once in a blue moon I hear the sad cry of an owl, but I RARELY hear ANYTHING else. I am reminded of the book, The Silent Spring. You are blessed.
I love, love love your garden and scherenschitte. I am fascinated by and dabble in both. I would love to have this beautiful print. Not only for my enjoyment but would love to pass it on to my granddaughter who would come and "help" me in the garden when she was young. And now is always so appreciative of the scherenschitte Christmas ornaments I give her every year.

Thank you for sharing your garden again with us! My cottage garden is perfectly imperfect. I love to discover a plant that has volunteered and returned just as I delight in seeing a child running freely in the garden, growing and spreading his or her wings. I'd no more try to corral my garden and stifle it's creativity than I would try to corral one of my neighbors' children as they run and play and bloom. And if my garden is a source of pleasure to another I am happy but if my garden is not that is OK, too. My garden is for my pleasure and I love it.
My wish for everyone who is so inclined that he / she have a little place where they can produce a little piece of imperfect perfection!

Start your larkspur from seed, it will reseed for you over the years.

Yes! I'm inspired! Stopped half way through and threw my sunflower/marigold random mix.. I put them in an area where I intended to weed mat and mulch.. BUT NOW I'm looking forward to my cottage garden area.. Thanks for the inspiration.. I get the feeling my entire yard will end up a cottage garden.. :)

just started watching your channel, and it's truly been lightening my heart. How do you deal with falling leaves, must get entangled in the tall flowers. I am praying for a cottage garden, even being kind of in the wrong south Florida yard, where my neighbor;s banyan tree blows a tremendous amount of leaves in my yard. A cottage garden, is the only garden i dream of. thank you Jeri for so much inspiration.
Falling leaves are wonderful for your garden. they provide a natural mulch to suppress weeds and they break down into leaf mold which is great for adding nutrition to the soil. You can also collect those leaves in a plastic bag, set them aside for several months and they will become the most wonderful soil compost for you...that is called leaf mold.
