  • Firstly, I would like to apologise is advance for the shaky video footage. I was filming with my GoPro Hero 4 Black, action camera. This camera doesn’t have a view finder or screen to frame your filming, it is more or less a hit and miss, point and hope for the best. Also, the camera is small and lightweight making it difficult to keep steady for using as a normal video camera. An immense amount of video editing took place, to try and get rid of some of the shakes and bad framing.
    I was fortunate enough to attend at the Southern 100 this year (2018), my first time at the Isle of Man and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sadly, I was not familiar with the riders/tracks etc, albeit my friends attempted to educate me on who was who etc. I was at the circuit when the tragic accident occurred, which killed James Cowton although not at the actual location.
    I filmed all sorts of stuff during my 5 day stay and have been slowly going through all the many hours of footage. I came across this video of James Cowton and Ivan Lintin in the holding area of the circuit, immediately before the fateful race. They are waiting, side by side, warming up their bikes. Again, I apologise for the poor framing of the video.
    I filmed snippets of the race as the riders went past where I was watching from. I compiled this short film from the footage I had taken.
    Strange to see the two riders’ side by side only hours before they have come into contact with each other, leaving one dead and the other seriously injured and two more riders injured.
    I’m not bothered about likes or dislikes for the video, it is intended for James Cowton’s fans.

    I respect these guys so much. I have climbed some of the toughest mountains in the world and I am a biker.
    However, I hold up my hands, I could never ever contemplate doing what they do.
    Respect, guys.
    RIP

      What makes it all the worse, the inquest has now been finalised and after his bike had been examined, the cause of the crash was a mechanical failure NOT rider error. Very sad indeed..

    Do the sport expect a danger!! Their choice ain't it??? They know the risks. What a waste of life I say but I I know the buzz on a bike but I wouldn't do this rip mate 😞

  • @bobrille7245
    @bobrille7245 Před 5 lety +6

    It is not a racetrack it is a public road and safety is poor. Had isle of man been a racetrack it would have been closed or rebuild simply because it isn't safe to race on. But ever year 2-4 racers die on isle of man. But riders know this but is it worth the risk?

    • @gps-gps
      @gps-gps  Před 5 lety +4

      Bo Brille. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
      Most of the roads, here in the UK, are not safe to drive on in normal conditions, but we nevertheless still ride/drive on them. That aside doesn't mean it would be acceptable to have an accident.
      One has to remember, the chaps (and lasses) who ride at the Isle of Man races are professional, or at the very least, exceptional riders. They seek the thrill and the audience enjoy watching. I doubt they race with the actual thought of crashing.
      Better to race on closed roads under strict conditions, than to ride on the roads when they are all open to the public and where the public could get hurt.
      Although the enquiry hasn't concluded into what happened, again remember, they are all going the same direction, not harming anyone else, and fatal/serious accidents still occur on race tracks.

    • @KevinJohnson-jc9ju
      @KevinJohnson-jc9ju Před 5 lety +1

      Bo Brille Amen to that and I wouldn't be surprised if that's part of the thrill for these crazed ROAD RACERS... true motorcycle racers...
