    I’ve done about 6 pinlocks, and because of my crap memory, I come back to this video each time before I do. Thanks, it’s the ultimate, simple how-to.

    You totally skipped what to do if the silicone strip doesn't quite fit flush.
    For those who are wondering, the little pins you snap the pinlock insert onto are offset so you can turn them bringing the pins slightly closer together giving a snug fit for the insert.
    This is an especially common adjustment for people like me with large heads since the visor has less of a curve on a larger helmet. I only learned how to do this after visiting my Shoei dealer because my insert wasn't working.

      A lot of Shoei, AGV, Arai, and higher-end Bell and HJC helmets include the pinlock insert in the box. For cheaper helmets, it's nice to offer the consumer the option to forego the insert and save a few dollars, or add the insert if it's worth the extra to them. They were probably quite a bit less common when you composed your comment 8 years ago, though.

    Rubbish, no mention of adjusting the oval shaped pins, if the insert doesn't sit flush.

    I suggest do it with latex gloves. It's very annoying to leave finger prints in between visor and the pinlock visor.

    I find it odd that the peel-off protection is not on the side which fits against the visor surface. You don't want dust, smudges, grease, scratches to be on the (inside-lens-surface) - as once you have installed it, they are sealed-in there !

  • @Smudge1100xx
    @Smudge1100xx Před 11 lety

    @2wheelsbetterthan4 He didn't show this because HJC pin locks don't have the adjustment, and don't need it. The cut outs on the pinlock are positioned better so the adjustment cams aren't needed or fitted. But yes you are correct in what you say for the Shoei and Arai helmets. But personally I think the neoprene rubber nose protector insert called the Foggy is much cheaper and much more effective.

    Helmet visor MUST be clean. These things damage very easily. One thumbnail against it and it's scratched forever. No buffing out, because it's silicone.

    My Caberg Duke came with one but I didn't bother fitting it as I just open the visor a crack to keep it clear. Since being a blood biker and having to ride all weather opening the visor is not all that comfortable and I decided to look for the pinlock. Eventually found it after 7 or 8 years at the back of a dusty shelf and decided to try it. Wow! Wish I'd done it years ago. Can't see how they cost £30 though!

    • @smoke05s
      @smoke05s Před 6 lety

      It does on mine. There is a huge warp just above eye level on mine. If I hold my head still I am ok but if there is any up and down movement and my vision passes through the warp I get sea sick. I don't see any adjustment either so do they all do this or is it just my helmet? (Aria Signet)

    • @ExileOrDeath
      @ExileOrDeath Před 6 lety +1

      Havent had any warp or twist in my vision with mine over the course of about a year on this helmet so i guess its either the pinlock not fitted correctly, the visor not being clean on the inside or it might be your helmet. Either way, good luck fixing it. Once it works properly you wouldn't want to live without it.

    • @smoke05s
      @smoke05s Před 6 lety

      I am using a genuine Arai visor and genuine Arai pinlock insert and I have the warp problem. if I look though only the shield it is perfect, if I only look though the insert (flat) it is perfect. I tried reinstalling it yesterday after looking at this video. I notice the insert does not have a notch to locate the insert. its tapered so as it drops in it gets tighter which is likely causing my problem. I removed it and slid it up a little. It seemed a little better but its still there. I have a new mirrored shield on order and I think I will skip the pinlock insert going forward. ( maybe only use it in foggy conditions because it eliminates fogging 100%.)

    • @iamtheiceman
      @iamtheiceman Před 4 lety

      @El Salvador I just installed mine. There is no lint/marks, however when I look through it, my vision is definitely not "as clear" as without it. I would say it decreases my visual clarity by about 20%. At least it does not fog up now, though. Seriously, all visors should have this feature "built-in" by now.

      t feeney remove the insert and place it in a bin. They are amazing when you come off your bike. Not only do you get hurt when you hit something. You then get this amazing peice of crap moving about the inside of your helmet. What's worse it they stop working after you keep riding in wet weather or they do like you said. They come off when you open your visor. They are good when new. But they become something not worth having. And they also put a weird outline around your Vision which is distracting at night when you get headlight glare.
