    The principal target from the EPA mandate was to stop the daily venting of ozone from normal outdoor weather temperature fluctuations and fuel pump transfers. Reducing gasoline spills was a secondary goal. The best idea that I ever saw was to connect a tube with a balloon to an airtight fuel can and permit the balloon to inflate and deflate with temperature fluctuations. If done right, vapors would be contained and low positive pressure would keep humidity from contaminating the gasoline, instead of watching fuel cans inflate and distort under pressure.

    Agree about adding those yellow vents. I have added vents to at least 10 gas cans, only one slightly split on the seam, a solder gun helps fix that, but good idea to not drill on the seam. EPA is not just bothered about spills, so no vent, they don't want even the vapors escaping from the cans, from say the vent not being closed by the user. Another bad thing about plastic cans, there is a camphor shot borer insect the eats 1/8" round holes in plastic cans, I have had almost every tank perforated by those bugs, they also eat holes in generators fuel tanks. The plastic is too thin, bug can smell the ethanol. They also eat holes clear through rubber fuel lines, and even the hard plastic nozzles. I was thinking of putting all my cans into plastic leaf bags to try and keep them away. I fixed all the little holes using a solder gun and a small one-gallon Blitz can to cut small strips as plastic welding rod material. The generator tanks, I used a black oil bottle HDPE, for patching the holes. You really need to add some filler plastic to fill the holes, and it takes some skill too.

      I truly believe that we would start seeing decent usable new gas cans within a week! Remember there is a better can out there we just need congress to approve it.

      and it's not just the specific angle you need that makes it difficult, the fuel flows out so slowly that your arms or fingers fatigue from holding awkward positions so long. it usually takes 2-4 repositionings to dumpt the entire can.

    I've seen other suggestions for how to fix a new gas can. Everything from adding a piece of flexible tubing to replacing the whole thing with an aftermarket spout. The cheapest was about $3.00. Your idea is free, except for the vent. It works better even without the vent, but with a vent it pours much smoother and faster. I'm trying to figure out how to make a vent for free. Actually the vent is free, just drill a hole. A free vent cover is what I'm looking for.

    if you just twist the white end part you cut off, it comes right out surprisingly easy. Then you can remove the spring. takes like 10 seconds and is reversible should you ever want to (why is beyond me...)

    Ya gotta go to Mexico to get a working gas can off-the-shelf, no modification necessary. U. S. "Safety Approved" cans UN-SAFE, lol. Spilling gas every time you use the over-engineered spout totally negates any 'vapor recovery' , haha

  • @donDiegoEstebanMgLKenNDJohnson

    Don't knock "a box of rocks," there could be intelligent life. The EPA since the advent of these ventless cans definitely no signs promoting any necessity for the future endeavor in a search for an actual presence of intelligent life within that agency.
    No doubt about it I have been there myself with the expanding fuel can only to find out once I had arrived at my destination the pour spout's "cap" had shot off at some point during the 20-mile drive. What's worse is the ventless cans don't need to be in direct sunlight before ballooning into a basketball. Only in theoretical applications do these cans meet expectations. Practical applications prior to altering the spout are limited to storage purposes only, no pouring, just siphoning. As for the removal of the vent, oy.

  • @grubbwormracing
    @grubbwormracing Před 7 lety +4

    1D10CRACY FYI it is not there to protect you, it is there to keep the fuel fumes from getting into the atmosphere. That is why if you do not tighten the gas cap on an OBD II vehicle it will more than likely set a Trouble code: P0456 Evaporative Emissions System leak. The EVAP system is there to prevent those fuel fumes from entering the atmosphere.

    • @1D10CRACY
      @1D10CRACY  Před 7 lety +2

      So, what keeps the cans from expanding in the heat and exploding without a vent? Cars that have the EVAP system also have a pressure relief valve that allows the air to vent through a charcoal container when the pressure becomes to excessive.

    • @grubbwormracing
      @grubbwormracing Před 7 lety +3

      1D10CRACY In the video you said, "I can protect myself from myself, I don't need the EPA to protect myself". You also state, "It seems so gosh darn ignorant that someone would say, we need ventless gas cans because we might spill our gas cans." All I am saying is those are not the reason for the ventless gas cans. I am not saying that I like these gas cans as I agree they are difficult to use. I am just trying to point out why they are made ventless. No disrespect intended, just pointing out the facts.
