- I used to think the Aputure 600d and 600x were overkill. Like who needs that powerful of lights, right??
Until I started using them in more intentional ways to light my cinematic scenes.
It's amazing what you can do with such powerful lights. I had no clue that an Aputure 600d or x could mimic sunlight beaming through the window. Just one powerful light.
I hope my experience with the Aputure 600d and 600x changes your perspective like mine was changed. And that you learn how do better cinematic lighting by watching the bts and approach I took on this most recent commercial video shoot.

I’ve learned that it’s just a different level of control when you’ve got a couple lights like this in your arsenal. Especially when you get into lighting spaces versus faces, adding negative fill and shadows for contrast. I started to see how limiting it was for just a 120D, which was the first light I started with. Hard to combat the sun with that 😂. Keep ‘em churning, Trent!
That's a great saying: light spaces versus faces 🤙🏼 and yes good luck trying to mimic the sun with a 120d haha
Just got one myself! It’s such a fantastic piece of kit
A great addition to the kit! It's expensive but when you consider using it for 5+ years, it's really not that much.
This surely means you've stepped up to the next level. You now need big boy stuff. Congrats.
Does that mean I need a Sachtler tripod next?
This was fantastic, we were on the fence about the 600d or x and this really helped with the decision making. Stellar vid Trent🤙🏼
I would say the X all the way. I love having Kelvin control. And yeah the 600 is amazing for applications like this. Having it on hand can make all the difference for a shoot 💪🏼
@@TrentErwin On the other hand- the D is more powerful - and CTO gels are cheap and easy! I'd prefer more punch....
@@Nypics honestly I don't want to mess with gels. Just one more thing to keep up with. I like dialing in the specific Kelvin. We're actually using a Nanlite 720b which has more punch and is cheaper.
600W is actually the smallest to mimic the Sun :D
You’re right. I’ve grown a lot as a filmmaker in the area of lighting. Used the 1200 recently and it almost wasn’t enough.
What made you pick the X over the 600D or even the 600d Pro?
I like having control of color temp. I don’t always want the light daylight temp.
@@TrentErwin Why not use gels?
too much talking man!
😭 what else did you want to see?
Whenever I bought the 300x, I immediately knew there were moments where I'd want more intensity. I work with an agency and film interviews in buildings with tons of natural sunlight punching in. Even with just the key up close, we often can't achieve the light ratio on the subject we would need to mitigate blown out windows. That's when one to two 600s or 1200s would be PERFECT to clear that and the general light intensity in the offices or conference rooms.
Absolutely. It’s so useful to have a light with max output. We’ve been working with the Nanlite 720b a lot recently. Can do so much with it.
