Three of the four members of my family made exactly the same journey - round about eighteen hours for us. Words cannot describe my feelings going into that blessed place. Strangely enough, I'd spent much of the time walking expecting to be holding back an ocean of tears when I got in there. Didn't happen; the sense of wonderment overtook all else. I'd also had it fairly clear in my head of what I was going to do when facing her coffin. When the moment came, the most appropriate thing I could think to do was a two or three second bow. It didn't seem a sufficiently adequate show of respect at all considering who it was laid five feet in front of me. You, likewise, have my respect, sir, for finding the strength to endure. And it really did take some strength to do it. I must say, they might have chosen something a little less troublesome than those ghastly plastic walkways in the last mile!

I did not expect her death to affect me, but it really did. She represented continuity; a connection to events from earlier in her reign and in her life, and the station of Queen (or King) being a connection going back much farther. This type of continuity is literally the glue that holds civilization / culture together, and in a time when a lot of people want to create a new "year zero" and erase the past, it's more important than ever. Without doubt the greatest monarch that Britain has ever had and quite probably the greatest Briton that ever lived. God bless you.

Thank you ,Micheal. Beautifully done. As I was watching the Queen slowly become more frail her passing started to weigh on my mind. I'm 75 and Queen Elizabeth has always been in my life. In the early 70s the Queen and Prince Phillip were on a visit to Canada. At that time I was doing cardiac surgery at Toronto General Hospital. The cardiac ors were on the top floor of the Private Patients Pavillion over looking University Ave. The great thrill for me was seeing the Queen and Prince Phillip
going up University Ave to Queen's Park in the open Landeau.
Having watched all the ceremonies over the past days,it didn't really affect me until the Royal Regalia was removed from Her Majesty's coffin. She was gone. No longer with us. How fortunate we have all been to have had such a wonderful, dedicated, kind example for us to emulate. Thank you, Your Majesty.
