There were a few hybrids that rolled thru about 5 years ago that were dropping cobs prematurely. So they bred for tougher plant/cob connections and as a result, there is more butt shelling. But unless you had a perfect year and your cobs are hanging down at 19%, you will have that issue. Your corn was like ours, standing straight up and sometimes with half an inch of water in them.
