    Thanks for the explanation about the cutting heads and how they work. I'm pleased that your crop is good and dry thus saving costs and wear and tear. Lets hope these good weather conditions last for a good while for you

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  Před 3 lety

      Most of it is decent. The continuous corn is yielding quite a bit less but overall its good yields for how dry we were all year

  • @CalmerCornHeads
    @CalmerCornHeads Před 3 lety

    The stalk chop is still looking impressive after a few years of use on those rolls and your field looks great! Thanks for the update!

      What is the average life expectancy do you figure i can get out of them? Ive heard up to 1,000 acres per row?

    • @CalmerCornHeads
      @CalmerCornHeads Před 3 lety

      @@iafarmer We typically see approx. 600 - 1000 acres per row, depending on how the head is run, crop conditions, etc. If you have the head dialed in to the 23-25 degrees we recommend and aren't up against down corn year after year, you're going to see much more of an even wear and longer life out of the rolls, typically closer to the top end of that projection. Of course, we've seen folks above that top mark as well. Just keep an eye on the job the rolls are doing, how they are feeding, etc. Call us if you have any questions!

    Yeah 14% 60lbs I would definitely take that!!!! I’ll be happy with low 20s and 56-58lbs after I dry it

    That's pretty impressive that they don't show any wear. I think a smaller sprocket to slow the auger would be good too.

    Guy that hauls my freestall sand thought I rented my ground to the amish last year becsuse my head did such a shitty job. Lol He thought it was ear picked. I got some new oem ones but I haven't gotem put on in the last two years, I still think about getting the calmers but I believe they've gone up in price more the last few years. I notice with my multiple years of no till they seem to break down fairly fast now though.

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  Před 3 lety +1

      Lol. Is it a 90 series head? Ive never been impressed with the job those do. Idk if they slowed them down too much or what. Even with knofe rolls they seem to leave really long stalks

    I noticed the lugs on of your gathering chains are not timed should they be to pick up downed stalks better. I thought i saw that in the operators manual, what are your thoughts. The 643 is cornheads are wonderful heads. I run one on my 1460 international combine and love it

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  Před 3 lety

      Yeah for down corn your supposed to have them run together. Ive heard of people putting the chains on backwards so they are more aggressive usimg the backside of the lugs to help pick up down corn

    • @leonsieberns9191
      @leonsieberns9191 Před 3 lety

    Do you recommend those Calmer rolls? Really considering putting them on my 444 corn head. Did you see a return on investment?

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  Před 3 lety

      For me theyve been a great investment. No more stalk chopper has saved a couple thousand or more a year in fuel, labor and repairs. I figure in these 3 years theyve more than paid for themselves and the stalk stompers. I bought these when they had a sale at the farm progress show. Mention you saw them at a show and you might get a discount

    She does a nice job, but most people I work for don't like them cause when they go to rake the stalks it's beats on the rake so usually any field that's going to be baled with these heads now days they can shut the chopper off on the head then go over with a tractor and brush hog to chop the stalks up

    • @iafarmer
      @iafarmer  Před 3 lety +1

      If you had the same width rake as the header and went the same direction it wouldnt bother but yeah i can see how thatd tear up a rake pretty quick
