Black Seas Brig - 1:700 scale naval model for wargame by Warlord Games

  • I finally decided to paint a ship clearly from the Napoleonic era. starting with a Warlord Games Brig from their well known Black Seas game.
    The dominant color is red, which according to the rules would correspond to the Spanish navy. But the flag is interchangeable by hooks so I can use it in other navies. After all, brigs are not strictly speaking ships of the line and their colors I think were not so regulated. Besides the rules themselves recognize that using red in the Spanish Armada is a convention not entirely historical.
    I have not used the ratlines that come with the model, nor the paper sails, nor the thread. I had already found satisfactory solutions for other ships that don't include them, and I think I've gotten used to my style. Let me know if it looks better or worse in the comments. For those who want to know more about sails and rigging, I offer you these two videos in my channel:
    Sails: • Scratch Building Sails...
    Rigging: • How I make the rigging...
    I have no commercial relationship with any of the brands mentioned, the products shown are for information purposes only.

    I've marveled at all of your ships on this channel, but throughout it all I don't recollect you mentioning what brushes you use for these projects. I have noticed all seem to be long and thin which, as I understand it, is critical for painting extended thin lines with any kind of control. I also take it that we may have seen the end of Galleys & Galleons as a rules set for future campaigns. Too bad.

    • @MinisMyWay
      @MinisMyWay  Před rokem

      Abandon Galleys & Galleons???? No way! Although we have our campaign on hold, we will be back to it soon. But in my area there are a few guys playing Black Seas and the ships are very nice! So why not take a look at it?
      About the brushes, the ones I like the most are the "Super Detail" and "Highligting" from The Army Painter, but lately I don't use them much because I don't know what happens that my usual stores have run out of stock. The long hair brushes are made in China by the brand Artix, they are brushes for artistic painting that unbelievably cost about 1€ per unit. As the hair is so long the paint does not dirty the ferrule and therefore the brush is very easy to clean and stays sharp longer. But on the other hand the long hair diminishes the control in the brushstroke, that's why I like the ones from The Army Painter better, although I'm reserving them for really delicate things until I secure the supply.
      Thanks for your feedback!

      @@MinisMyWay Thanks so much for the info regarding Army Painter brushes. I've always thought that, with brushes, you get what you pay for, and a slightly more expensive brush is more likely to give you a more satisfying paint job for a longer period of time. Have never tried the Army Painter brushes, but certainly will now! Oh, and I'm glad to hear Galleys & Galleons isn't gone. Looking forward to the next installment.
