Hey Michael, thanks for taking the time to demonstrate your findings. Well done!
Thanks for the info! About to do all your weekend testing to make sure I can get it working with my rig. Haven’t watched the full review yet but will before spending hours figuring it all out.
this is the first legit ananlysis and solution. very impressive. thanks!!!
Hey Thanks so much! I saw many frustrated Blackmagic owners in forums and on CZcams so I wanted to share my findings to hopefully help at least 1 other person!
I think you guys are making it really complicated by using such a heavy lens to begin with. Try a tokina 11-16 or Rokinon 20mm 1.5, contax zeiss 15mm 3.5, so many options.
Yo thanks man! I was able to move some things and get the camera the tiniest bit closer to the right. Totally solved 99% of the wobble instances.
worth the time to watch especially for BMC users
I appreciate that very much! Always trying to make videos worth the time!
Can you please give me details of the power cable use to connect the Blackmagic to the battery pack thru d-tap connection
This is the video I needed to see!
Thanks for the video. I setup my 3s yesterday for the first time and seemed to get it pretty well balanced with my stripped down Pan EVA1 camera. That being said I’m getting the wobble in low mode. I have yet to install the app or set up the motors or updates so I’ll see how it goes after that.
I was getting wobbles with pocket 6k. I watched this other video and it worked. You need to go into the app. Change your motor strength to medium-high. It’s defaulted at low. Worked like a charm smooth as silk.
I have the BMPCC 6k in a tilta cage with top handle, sigma art lens, the little rails that came with the Crane 3s as well as the 2 servos motors that came with the 3s pro and I just can't get it to stop with the wobbles when I turn it on.
Today I recharged the battery to make sure it was fully charged. And it still wobbles. I wanted to update the firmware but how do I get it to update? It don't want to mess the gimbal up. I don't know if my set up is too light @Gary Golembiewski could you please help me and let me know how can I update the firmware for my Crane 3s and get this rig balanced
@@jcinewilliams8819 Did you go into the app and change the motor strength setting? Firm wear I forget how I did it I'm sure there is a bunch of tutorials online. You also need to make sure you take your time and balance correctly that helps a lot!
@@garygolembiewski1085 Yes, I finally got it going tonight. I'm very excited hopefully I will take it for a spin tomorrow. I do want to try to incorporate it with math my Tilta Armorman vest. Not sure how but I will see if it will work.
@@jcinewilliams8819 So, did it work?
@@jcinewilliams8819 did you by chance get any of the lenses that range from 12mm-24 sigma and or the 24-70mm sigma lenses?
Hi Michael, this is one of the best reviews that cares about the issues you get with wide camera bodies such as the BM-Pocket.
I am facing the same with my Lumix S1H on my Weebill S - the asymetric body design of the camera would require to shift if a bit more to the right to balance it correctly - but there is not enough space left by the gimbal design.
I am wondering whether the Crane 3S would fit with my S1H in a SmallRig cage?
Am I missing it, or did you make the follow-up to this? Curious to know how it turned out and what your running time was off the batt pack. Thanks.
Hello, your videos are incredible, but one question, how did you connect the extra battery to the camera?
through which battery outlet and with which cable? by the d-tap output? 14.8v? or by any of the others?
Your help would be very helpful.
thank you
The problem truly lies with the design of these pistol grip style gimbals. I struggled with them for a time, but I learned my lesson and I’m now rocking my Ronin M for use with anything heavier than a DSLR/DSLM.
Michael, what cables/adapters are you using to power the camera from the TransMount PowerPlus battery? Thank you.
Which cables need to be plugged in to trans mount wireless receiver? and then into the usbc of the bmpc?
MICHAEL GOOD WORK GOD BLESS U
If you have the Nucleus Nano setup for someone else to pull focus for you, how would you power that system? Awesome video, have been searching for a camera power solution while on the gimbal and im definitely going with the power pack! To anyone else wondering, he uses the Zhiyun-Tech TransMount PowerPlus battery pack
Excellent follow up dude
When are you releasing the full review for this?
Hi. Great review! What focus system are you using with this setup?
Thanks for this bro. You got any tips on troubleshooting a couple of issues that I am experiencing. 1. Follow focus module isn't working on my joystick wheel and 2. Image Transmitter that came with the Pro Kit is giving me a "not connected to internet" error prompt when connecting via app. Please help!
Thanks Michael. I want to buy a gimbal but the form factor of the 6k pro is a problem plus the set up looks just too big plus all the rebalancing with lens changes.
Hey Michael, Thanks for the video! a question - Im with 6K pro, do you reckon it will fit? Cheers
Very helpful. Thank you.
Hello Friend. Tell me, do I have to put the same additional beam-plate as yours?
Hello Michael first thanks for nice contain you are offering us in your channel
after watch all your video about zhiyun crane 3 s pro i bought exactly the same packet
the creane 3s Pro the transmount receiver and the Zhiyun tech motion sensor remote controller
all is working pratty good only one exception is the remote controller when i try to use it for focussing manually with the the servo focus, the way the servo focus wheel is crasy moving its just no precision no way to get focus as you wish do you get the same problem or is it working good for you ?
sory for my bad english and thanks for your help
Sick setup man. How do you monitor shots in lowslung mode though.
hello greetings friend can you connect the zhiyun transmitter to the pocket 6k camera and what signal can I use on a cell phone?
Hey, do you think this gimbal will work with a ursa mini 4k without any rigs on it? Or a c100 with like a 70-200 f2.8? This gimbal seems great in theory but I have heard so many bad reviews.
We’re you able to use ssd drive in usb c input and also get camera control?
Crane 3 s vs crane 3 lab
Hi
What do you think is the best deal ??
I used 5d iii , black magic Production 4k / black magic pocket 6k
any tips on how to connect the transmount remote to the gimbal? im always getting the disconnect icon?
can you link the cable for the blackmagic to the battery? Thanks
How did ou see up the wire control? You have a video for that as well?
I've just bought Crane 3S and no wobble is there at all until I've installed a cage handle. I also added small rig battery kit and Sony 970 battery attached to it. After rebalancing and increasing motor strength to medium everything seems to be OK.
Would you happen to know how to get the gimbal out of sleep mode? I can still use my camera on the gimbal, but I can’t set the modes on the little screen within the handle.
With my 6K Pro the wobbling was there but I noticed that even if I balanced the camera and tightened the screws there is a problem with the tightening. There is a lot of leverage when you fix the screws. I suggest that when doing that try to hold the camera up a bit with your left hand and check if the tightening is final. In my opinion the tightening gets loose and the arms can move so you get it unbalanced.
can the power plus battery zhiyun power the blackmagic 6k and what would be the input to be connected?
So if i bought the base model zhiyun crane 3s and the separate heavier load battery i wouldnt need to get the 1200 zhiyun crane model and ot would fly this setup well?
What ring is that? Also, what is the information on the external battery?
This video saved my life... THANK YOU! I'm a BMPCC 6K Pro user, and was able to get rid of my wobbles because of this video. You're the man 👏
I got the same set up. I'm running a v Mount plate plus battery on the back though made it super heavy. How are you running your power cuz the regular battery is doodoo
I was just going to ask if this applies to the 6k pro
This information is helpful. Can you please share your D tap to Dc power link thanks.
Found your Unboxing video then this one, but cannot find the full review follow-up you promised
I have Bmpcc 6k and i am thinking to buy "Zhiyun 3s" and I have limited budget so I can afford only "Crane 3s"( not Crane 3s PRO).
Can you focus Bmpcc 6k with your Zhiyun 3s side focus wheel? Without using focus motor.
never mentioned is not a tilta cage anymore and is only half cage, whats up with that? had something to do?
I have a zhiyun crane 3, do you think this is worth updating the gear for bmpcc 6k?
I wish that I could see how it’s put together. I’m having the same issue
When is the full review out?
EXTERNAL CAMERA SUPPLY HOW DID YOU DONE? I BOUGHT A PLATFORM WITH A BATTERY. WHERE DID YOU INSTALL THIS SITE SO THAT WAS LESS VIBRATION? THANKS IN ADVANCE 🙏 🤝🤝🤝WAIT EXPERTISE FOR AN ANSWER
Hey Michael, this is great to see you got this going! was a little worried at first, as I had the trigger almost on buy... until I seen your last vid.
I'm also a proud ak4500 owner, so i'll be able to use them parts too. what about that baseplate I see? is it a crane plate or did you use a custom baseplate incl. lens mount? it looks like its got a gold screw so could be part of the 3S kit? I also own a PolarPro Matte box. Have you tried this setup with a matte box? or too front heavy?
Hey! So in this video I’m using the cranes baseplate because the whole wireless kit arrived so I’m testing their focus motors. But any Manfrotto plate works just fine! Also yes that’s the included lens support for the 3s! I meant to throw on the Tilta matte box I have but I just forgot lol that’s why it’s in the thumbnail still. The biggest thing is having that low center of gravity. I could add a v mount in the back, bigger lens, matte box etc. forward and back weight is totally fine! It’s just having the cage, then tall Tilta 15mm rail system then another baseplate makes it too tall. What I should have used in the video as a metaphor was like a skateboarder going down a hill fast. If they stand too tall the board will start to wobble and easier to go off balance. But if they bend low and keep center of gravity low the board will handle better. Same amount of weight just placing that weight in a better spot. Dammit that would have been good to say in the video 😂 anyways yeah now that I understand this, the gimbal is a dream! Keep in mind if you buy from the seller in the description they did extend their deal to include free $400ish wireless system for free if you’re thinking about buying 👍🏼
Hey @@initialfocus many thanks for your reply dude! Appreciate it. Awesome about the link man! Thats the Zhiyun Amazon store right? I'm living in Germany, so I don't know if it's something to do with the country, but I went on the link and it takes me to a bunch of different models and kits. When I go on the pro-kit the transmitter is funny enough included, so I guess that's the one you mean right? Will definitely buy through your affiliate though. I seen it first on PotatoeJet but you were the first to legitimately convince me. hahaha yes that would of been a great way to describe it. I totally get what you mean, coming from the ak-4500 that's something I found through trial and error too. no matter what you try to do to make it balance, whether it's an offset plate or counterweights, it's all about that low center of gravity thing that takes a little torque off the motors. I call it the "ZEN" spot. I guess you can save your metaphor for a next video, whilst showing some actual out door corona type (empty spaces) of footage, maybe? 🤷🏻♂️ But thank you anyway for your time, effort and energy you have put into making videos like this, to share with the YT community 💪🏻
Exactly why I follow u.
Great update. So are you happy with moving off your original statement in the first video where you did not want to tear down one set-up to use it on the gimbal?
Definitely conflicted on it. I would have absolutely loved for it to have been a quick switch. I’ve thought about adjusting my bigger pocket 6K setup but that also defeats the purpose because I have it tuned perfectly for tripod and handheld use. There is an advantage to having two cameras 1 ready to go on tripod or handheld and one all set and ready to go for a gimbal. I’m practicing tear down and setup and as long as I can pack all the gimbal and pocket 4K into one case and setup/tear down is under 5 min I can be very happy with that.
@@initialfocus hey what is the power bank called that you mounted on the handle to powers the gimbal and camera?
So is this the best gimbal to buy?
Good content bro
The LED screen only displayed PF. So it looks like you don’t have control of you camera settings on the EasySling Handle. Is it possible to control Aperture, Shutter, and ISO from the handle? I found out the hard way it doesn’t work with Sony (unlike the Crane 3 LAB) seems Zhiyun may have taken a step back with some usability.
is it possible to control aperature, shutter, and iso from the EasySling Handle AND Black Magic cameras?**
Thank you for the information, could you activate the subtitles video, please?
hy thnks for your test and your time for making this video but in final do you prefer AK4500 or crane 3S ??
thnks
Both are great but for heavier payloads there's no comparison. The crane 3s is best option for anyone who is using more than just a mirrorless and basic lens setup. if you have a cage, heavier lens or camera etc the 3s is the only option in that price range!
@@initialfocus thanks for responding my commnet
i have fuji X-T3 + smallrig cage + sigma 18-35mm + a littel adaptateur my set up is a front heavy set up and but in total less than 2Kg im thinking to buy Ak4500 for dual hend grip or the ring for more stability on operating the gimbal all day
what do you think about my chois ?
Great video brother,,,,,

Can you please do the full review?! Thank you for taking time with the BMPCC though. I appreciate it.
Full review coming Tuesday 😬
@@initialfocus well... which one?
I can't seem to find the full review... Is there a link?
This video is a year old. Can you turn on closed captions for the deaf please. I've bought the 3S Pro and awaiting delivery, so am very interested in setup if I can read it pls
Mine has been busted since day one. Worked with their tech support for a month where they told me I was balancing it wrong. Finally, they admitted it was faulty but now I couldn't return it. So it went to their service department and was there for two months and I just got it back the other day. But it still wasn't fixed so they asked me to send it back again. Four months now. Still no gimbal...
dayum
Holy shit. Did you get it back and was it fixed the second time?
how do you slove focus
:D my friends are laughing to me because i have "my corner" in the kitchen - thanks! :D
I see from your video description that you also have a tilta cage for your BMPCC 6K. I understand that one can screw off half of the tilta cage and make it into a half cage just like the Kondor Blue in your vid. Would you mind confirming this and also, is there any reason you didn't choose this option and went with half cage Kondor instead?
I believe you technically could leave off the right piece of the full Tilta cage since they are all separate pieces but I don’t believe it’s intended for that. There’d be about 4 very small screws that are very tightly put together that would be a huge pain to take on and off just to setup the gimbal better. For me that Tilta cage is never coming off the 6K lol
Yes they can be half cage. They advertise that
@@glennparker8247 Thanks, I was starting to question that the half cage was not intentional but I did see such being advertised as you said so I was a bit confused.
I'm confused, you're telling us you don't want to remove the Tilta cage from the 6k yet in the video and at the top of the description you're recommending that we use a Kondor Blue cage... So don't you have to just pick one? If so, why are you also recommending the Tilta cage?
How much did you spend on this set up?
How long the battery last
I wonder so many people are having issues with the crane 3s. Made me a bit skeptical about getting one. Would you say it's better than the ronin-m?
After weeks and weeks of use I think a lot of people who own Blackmagic cameras are the main ones having issues due to the very wide bodies. But it’s certainly possible to balance. It takes a lot of practice and playing around but once you get the hang of it, it’s not too bad. I’ve got my final review which will include so much info on this gimbal it’ll be insane. Hopefully coming out next week!
I noticed if you turn the motors up too high you get like a very audible and vibration from the motors..
Hi Michael, tank you very much it helps a lot. Very easy to balance now. It’s a great setup. I still have a problem to trig the record. Did you find the Way to use crane record button with this setup?
Michael, There was a new firmware update for the Crane 3S last week. Did you have a chance to apply it and if so, did it make a difference? I'll get mine in tomorrow and will play with it this weekend. We have almost the same set-up so I interested in any progress you have made. Thanks!
I know it's been a while, but how did that update go for your system? I have a black magic 4K and I want to get the crane 3S
@@MtZionMediaPro I have to say that it did not go well. I picked up the new DJI RS3 Pro and the Blackmagic cameras work so well on that. Right now that would be my recommendation vs the Crane.
have you tried going with a wider and lighter lens that will make your rig less front heavy?
Well sure I could go lighter and smaller but the gimbal is capable of this weight for bigger setups. And these lenses balance just fine now
Big thanks.
Happy to help!
Dude! Help me out please! I need a gimbal for my Bmpcc 6k. I need a gimbal to work well with my Bmpcc 6K + cage + 16-35/2.8L. What do you recomend? Cheers!
Depends of budget! For around $1k I’d say the 3s is best I’ve used for that setup. Obviously more expensive stuff like the Ronin 2 or Movi. It’s been pushed but I’ve got my full review of the 3s with my full 6K setup with heavy Cine lenses in the works.
My rig is over 20 pounds. :/ looking for alternatives for stabilization. A gimble is a no go.
Do you have issues with the smart sling handle?? My smart sling handle doesn’t turn on.... and the gimbal is on at the time
Im sorry I haven't experienced any issues with the handle. May sure the connectors on both ends are not damaged or blocked by anything? or maybe a firmware update?
Quick question. What if you extended the camera all the way out so you can use your full rig, and added a counterweight (something like the jib one weight perhaps, just not as heavy) on the bottom to the right of your transmitter, but extend it so that it went as far right as it could. I am thinking that this balance out the extension of the camera and stabilize it. I don't have one yet so I cannot test this but what are your thoughts?
In other words, transfer the weight of the camera down a bit.Looking at the 5:59 mark there is a ton of room.
Add the battery under the camera as the counterweight.
@@Justin_Allen Hey so I really thought you had something here. I tried it out where I placed a counterweight underneath by the transmitter. I balanced everything perfectly using the larger pocket 6K rig I showed in my first video. unfortunately I still got wobble especially in underslung mode.
@@initialfocus Damn. Thanks for trying it. It seemed like it would work, in my brain. Unfortunately my brain has been lacking for years :) I keep looking at the dimensions of Potato Jet's rig and was trying to figure out a way to make the BMPCC set-up the same way, especially after seeing all that you did.
I’ve analyzed his video quite a bit and that’s where I stick with my theory. His RED and Canon C series do not have to slide all the way out so they hug the tilt motor as close as possible. They also have low center of gravity so the baseplate is right on the camera rather than having 2-3 inches of almost no weight and then the camera
Dying to know how long it lasts while powering your camera.
He said longer than 50minutes
I subbed, because of your Pittbull lol cool video tho
Now I know I won’t get te 3S for my BMPCC 4K! Thanks :-)
?
Did you have to get any adaptors for the mini matte box to work on the 45?
Yeah! So the titla comes with various adapters to fit onto the lenses so i just got step up rings to adapt it to the 86mm internal thread of the Irix lens
michael tobin dude, you’re a lifesaver! Any chance you can link the appropriate adapter ring!?
Yeah! Like I said Tilta comes with various sizes but here’s the 82-86 I used on the 45! amzn.to/2DOssms
what if my blackmagic only has sdi no hdmi ? how would i use the transmitter
You couldn’t use there transmitter (I mean I guess you could get a SDI to HDMI converter that maybe would work but be an extra box to attach and power) best bet would be just use a sdi supported transmitter
@@initialfocus ok ill look around , thanks man
I am looking at the crane3S e version (minity) and Mac Guyver extra power through the 190Wh pack. I run BMPCC6K, full Tilta cage+handle/15mm rods and Nucleus M (two motors) Sigma 18-35 art and Tilta 3 matte box, Tilta batt plate with FlycamVista ii and Zest power stabilizer. I am worried that It will suffer "shaking dog" syndrome and I refuse to run all of the extra weight from the bells and whistles built on the 3S Pro( like the battery pack). The alternative is the Moza PRO.
FRIEND, hello. Tell me, when you move forward or backward, is there shaking, fluctuations in the video picture? I have a Blackmagic 6k and my picture twitches a little when I move
Nope! That’s what I addressed in this video. Make sure to keep the camera low center of gravity close to the plate and as far right close to the tilt motor as possible. I have no shaking at all 👍🏼
michael tobin THANKS, BUT I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO LOCATE THE CAMERA 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ I HAVE ALREADY HALF A YEAR AND DO NOT GET IT. VISIBLY the stabilizer is not working with the BLACKMAGIC 6K. YOU HAVE A PICTURE SHAKING IN YOUR VIDEO IN THE BEGINNING OF THE ROLLER. I SEE THIS IS THIS SHAKE I'm TALKING ABOUT. WHAT MOTOR POWER DO YOU INSTALL? I hung the battery with the platform on top of the cage
I WRITTEN TO THE CHINESE THAT CRANE 3S DOESN'T WORK WITH A BLACKMAGIC CAMERA
I feel like there’s something getting lost in translation my friend lol the previous video I did yes the camera had shakes. This video was telling people how to fix it. I can tell you the Blackmagic camera works fine on this gimbal once setup properly.
michael tobin THANKS 🙏 SO IT IS NECESSARY TO MAKE THE CRANE 3S PLATFORM TO THE LEFT (IF LOOKING AT THE CAMERA FROM THE BACK) AS POSSIBLE AS POSSIBLE (MAXIMUM) I UNDERSTOOD IT CORRECTLY. THEN I HAVE TO SHIFT THE CAGE ON THE SITE FULLY TO THE LEFT (IF LOOKING AT THE CAMERA FROM THE BACK). IF SO, THEN I CANNOT THE STAND EXACTLY INSTALLED TO SUPPORT THE LENS

I challenge you to make a video showing us how you calibrate the crane 3s with your camera, you said you balanced it but you did not mention calibration, the wobble shows up when its not calibrated.
I still am making a full review but videos have been slightly delayed because I just had my second kid last week so it’s been a bit crazy lol but just to answer your question, anytime I calibrate once I have it balanced I just hit auto calibrate and that does the trick.
@@initialfocus When I calibrated mine I had to use the app and hold the crane in different positions to calibrate then my wobble went away for good, just thought id mention it. Good luck with yours. I only responded at first because someone replied on my review and sent me your video, he had the same camera you did. If this helps let me know Thanks good luck.
It sounds to me like it more about balance than it is weight.
Yours is another video that convinced me that the Crane 3s is the gimbal that I need and I thought I'd pass on my experiences with balancing my 4.2kg rig. With the Crane 3s focus and zoom motors attached, as well as an Arca Swiss clamp, the total weight on the gimbal motors is probably closer to 5kg, yet I can balance the rig without issue and I don't need the power pack. If interested, I did a video on how I think balancing the BMPCC4K needs to be addressed: czcams.com/video/l89ZZgItfuQ/video.html. This is equally applicable to any camera or gimbal setup.
So...the message is if you need help balancing on the crane 3s then buy a feiyutech gimbal to cannibalize the parts? I’ve been loving the videos. This one is a little hard to relate to.
Lol no, so like I said in the video I thought that top bar I got from the AK4500 would make all the difference. It didn’t do anything regarding the wobble. I ended up keeping it on the setup because it’s a second form of contact in Case the baseplate were to break. Just helps keep everything secure. But I can take it off and balance the camera just fine now
michael tobin thanks for the reply. Love the channel! You’ll never get a thumbs down from me. Just thumbs’ up and honest comments. Thanks for your hard work
Hey I appreciate that very much! 🙌🏼 always open to critiques and honest comments!
Should I get 2s or 3s crane for my BMPCC6k?????
came here to say that Crane 3s now can control shutter, ISO and focus on 6k pro
This gimbal is getting horrible reviews on B&H. I’m looking for long term use reports before I buy one.
My Tilt motor died, even that the gimbal was perfectly balanced. The Tech support isn't helpful. I had to send them a video showing the fault after which they just offered me to contact the local supplier. Zhiyun? - never again.
I’ve just got a crane 3s and having issues with wobble. Zcam rig that weighs 3.9kg. Perfectly balanced. Tried motor strengths from low to high. It wobbles through certain axis. This product is garbage. I’m furious about it as it shouldn’t be doing this. A gimbal has one Job, to smooth footage out not make it worse than hand held. It’s like an aircraft that can’t fly.
Hmmm a zcam should balance just fine. What lens are you flying with it?
michael thanks for the reply. It’s a small Meike 35mm. I weighed the rig last night. When I first got it, spent ages balancing it and it wobbled badly. So I adjusted the motor strengths. The obvious big wobble disappeared. What happens now is it subtly wobbles as you’re going from held up to underslung. In underslung if you give it a few seconds it starts to wobble ever so slightly, but the footage looks bad. Reading a lot about it it seems so many people having this issue and not just BM. I tried all the motor strengths, also tried the other settings to do with gain. Updated to latest firmware. I contacted another you tuber regarding this power pack thing I read about. He said when he used the power pack it didn’t make any difference to the wobble issue. I’m confounded ha
"G Forces or whatever down on it."

The design quality of Zhiyun gimbals looks very poor for the price you have to pay.
MIchael, I have been playing with some weight calculations and my thought process on counterweights. In looking for solutions I found this video my CineMilled: czcams.com/video/4Yc4u9BTHMQ/video.html Look at this video and let me know what you think. I have ordered a Crane, BMPCC 6k, IRIX lenses and full Kondor Blue rig and will be playing with this as soon as B&H can get things off of backorder :p I honestly think, depending on total weight, this concept is the solution., however you are the expert. I would love to know your thoughts!
Just an update. CineMilled replied and stated he will be buying one and looking at this issue. You should read his reply. You did great work in starting a solution to this issue!
