That's cool he's starting to explore braids. Having long hair without braids can be messy & frizzy. Those are pretty funky box braids that I hadn't considered before. I'm getting pretty good at corn rows and French Braids. I also can tie a bandana to make a skullcap that can fit two Cherokee braids perfectly. That's my every day braid.
Fun fact: after you do the French braids on the sides, do a fishtail braid with the top section and let the rest of the remaining hair flow. Then you have Legolas from Lord of the Rings. El Rubio, I dare you to do that for Halloween next year.
I had cut my hair a few months ago and I regret it. I did donate it though none of it went to waste, I cannot take another cut so I am growing my hair again!

No I tried that. Did an undercut with long hair on top, looks cool for about a week and then I regretted it.
I would grow it all out together; and then, when it reaches a long enough point to tie it, decide from there if you want to cut the sides.
I've tried this so many times but I just can't do it so unfortunately I've just given up on the whole idea of styling like this.
