Babylights vs Modern Chunky Highlights 😱 Highlighting and Foiling Tutorial including a Root Shadow

Have you had a client sit down in your chair and ask for chunky highlights and you immediately think of Kelly Clarkson from the 90s and start sweating? Not only has that look been out for a couple of decades, but you really have no idea how you’re going to make it look modern?
Well to be honest, I think chunky highlights and contrasted hair color is making a comeback and will be a BIG trend for 2020! Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean baby lights are going anywhere!
But I wanted to show you this side by side comparison of using the same foil pattern, but different technique to accomplish a modern chunky highlight and a babylight.

This is a wonderful idea great job I think modern chunky highlights will grow in Popularity over the next 15 to 18 months ✌🏻
Also this is way quicker to do chunky highlights and then blend them for good. A lot like hairbysamad does his blondes

I like the chunkier side! I lived through and had the 90's stripes, and I like tbis SO much better! The root smudged and very light ends throughout make all the difference. Great tutorial!

With the teasylight in between the foils do you fully saturate the hair up into the tease?

The Chunk is back! Possibly a More modern twist. Shadow root perhaps? Or less block panels and more soft at the top and bolder as you go down.

another great video! thank you I loved seeing the side by side but I also loved how you showed mixing in teasy lights for the ends and now I really saw what it is you mean by doing a root shadow - that finally makes sense to what that term means! I'm thinking about the video with the grey root coverage at the same time application (as most my clients need that with highlights) I am thinking that could follow that with switching up the foiling application - so a root shadow wouldn't need doing in that case - or rather your doing it but at the same time but since grey coverage is key and saving application time it becomes or is a 'root shadow' of sorts. yes?

Yes to the root shadow. One of the reasons I disliked chunky highlights back in the day was the way the roots looked for us with dark hair...it wasn’t pretty.
