    what is the use of pedestial??? as it is like pier and the deck slab is resting on it?? why we donot provide bearing plates directly on pier cap???

Bearing plates are used to distribute the load from the superstructure over a larger area, reducing the stress on the pier cap and ensuring more uniform load transfer.
      Stability: Placing bearing plates directly on the pier cap may affect the stability of the superstructure. By providing a separate bearing plate system, it allows for proper adjustment and leveling of the superstructure. This helps to ensure that the loads are evenly distributed and that the superstructure remains stable.
      Movement and Rotation: Superstructures are subject to movements and rotations due to factors such as temperature changes, settlement, and live loads. By using a separate bearing plate system, these movements and rotations can be accommodated more effectively. Bearing plates are designed to allow for these small movements and rotations while maintaining stability and minimizing stress concentrations.
      Maintenance and Replacement: Bearing plates are typically easier to inspect, maintain, and replace compared to pier caps. By providing a separate bearing plate system, it allows for easier access and maintenance of the bearings. If any bearing needs to be replaced, it can be done without major disruptions to the pier cap or superstructure.
