- Today we build some stairs up to the loft and finish them off with some paint to match the rest of the setup. This was my first time building stairs and I think they came out pretty nice, let me know what you think!
If you're interested in the full blueprints to my house, I have them for sale here: www.kordare.co...

I watched this, tripping on 6grams, in a tent. In north Georgia.
Thank you for the laughs on how many times you kept in all the hammering.
I’ve followed the entire build, the pole barn the tour.
I dig this.
Haha I appreciate the support!
This dude does everything BMX rider mechanic and weight lifter
its getting so close to completion now!
looks good man!
Thanks🤘
I don't know why but I was waiting for the chair slide in the intro lol
That needs to be his thing now
Came out super good bro! Can’t wait to see what you do with railing! (Hint: please put railing lol you’re stressing me out 💀)
Haha thanks, yeah I'll be doing a railing soon
Kordare also closing up the inside portion of the stairs between the ramp and stringer is probably a good call! Prevent some nasty hang ups and ankle catchers. Looks so sick though!
@@buildingsalvage I was thinking the same thing, thanks!
Can’t wait for the loft to be done with everything you’re gonna put up there!!!
I still need to decide exactly what's going up there 😂
All looks smart. Wish I had the space
I'm here from tiktok, stumbled across your mustang and absolutely loved it. The loft and ramp turned out great and I cant wait to see whats to come for everything (mostly the cars).
Thanks for coming out! I've got some more cool things in mind coming to my channel soon🤘
this house is goals man
You. Build stuff to last!!! Nice work on the stairs!!!!
Thanks! Learning a lot with each build🙌
This is turning out so sick man! Love seeing your journey and progress!
Thanks man!
Great job! Love the finished look. I've been planning a shop with living quarters for over a year and seeing your cost breakdown and shop walkthrough has given me some great ideas. Really appreciate the content. Can't wait to break ground on my own dream setup.
I'm glad I could help and good luck with your build🙌🙌
Dude your like the ultimate man. I hope my son is half as cool as you! Mad respect! Whole place looks great!
Thanks a lot! Just trying to keep learning and improving with each project!
Dude your doing amazing! I’m so glad your bringing us along for the ride! I look forward to all your new content! God bless!
They look great. Good choice on leaving the risers off.
When you use any structural steel brackets, like those hangers, you need to be putting a nail or structural screw in every single hole. May feel excessive, but it's important.
It looks like there were a few open on the stringer supports.
Yeah there were a few open on just the underside because I didn't like how close they were to the edge of the board, most likely would have caused a split. Although there were more side attachment points which I didn't show.
need a rail on both sides of it so u can hit it then 180 out and land on the other ramp or u could fakie it
Yeahhh idk if I'm that good😂
love the half pipe setup thats dope
Thanks🙌
Awesome job. Always like seeing your shop and what videos you have coming up next.
Thanks a lot!
It's an excellent job, especially for the purpose. One comment, however - if you're going to use construction glue (unless you're just doing it to keep things from wiggling), you should remove the primer from the surface you're bonding. (The grey boards). Even just taking a sanding block and roughing up the surface will greatly increase the bond strength.
Makes sense, thanks!
Great Job!
Thanks!
That turned out so great, 2 toned & everything. (super fancy) I like how you designed it in CAD first, a couple of weeks ago, my twin brother & I rebuilt my sister's front steps & we didn't do that & we had to go back to the hardware store a couple of times to get more supplies so we could finish it!
Thanks! And yeah I use CAD everyday so it's no big deal to model something like this quick just to make sure everything checks out.
Bro I’m a new youtuber from Australia I just found your channel today and I gotta say I love it! You are my new favourite youtuber!
Thanks so much and good luck with your channel!
Kordare thanks mate I appreciate it! What started your channel? How long have you been doing it
I've always loved cars so I wanted to try and turn my hobby into something more . I've been uploading pretty solid for over 2 years now.
Love the build and BMX videos!
Thanks! I might start mixing in some more BMX content.
Well done
Thanks!
Should build a narrow quarter that you could store under the stairs and then pull out to use as a hip launch into your roller section. A hip would be a cool replacement for that kicker.
Your building videos are great
Thanks🙌
Awesome!
Looks good fella
Thanks!
Good job, I definitely would get a railing on the second level though.
I will be doing that next, thanks!
I like your videos, keep doing them
Thanks I will!
Awesome
Good job!
I'm only a minute and a half in and I can tell you right now that someone's pedals knee or elbow is gonna hit those steps!!!
But your carpentry skills are excellent for sure.
Haha actually no one has hit them yet. Thanks!
I wonder if there’s a way to incorporate it into the ramp somehow? Like as a grind rail/up ledge maybe? I’m not much of a bmx’er so idk. Either way I love the work and detail you put into your stuff
Yeah I have kinda thought about that as well, not sure exactly how yet. Thanks!
I see it in you, I have spent 20+ yrs in design and engineering
Nice!
Thanks 🙌
I know that this comment will get swallowed up in the comment section and you probably won't read it. However if you do just know I'm not trying to be negative.
When you added the construction adhesive you really should have removed the paint. The glue will bond to the new wood but will not make its way into the fibers of the mezzanine wood. It will still make a stronger bond than if you didn't use it and will actually prevent squeaks. The bolts were probably more than enough, but moving forward i would try and remember this.
Like I said I'm really not being negative just a fellow shop builder trying to give lend a tip or two your way.
Keep up the good work. The shop is really looking amazing by the way!!!
I appreciate the feedback and was thinking the same thing as I was doing it, but I thought why not just add it since I had it laying around. Thanks!!
Started following Because I have a WK too. Love the channel. I’d like to see you fix the WK.
Appreciate the support! I have been driving it a lot just haven't fixed the cosmetics fully yet.
Not bad, not bad at all.
Came out awesome man, love seeing the updates. You should maybe throw some anti slip (or griptape) material on the stairs. Paint could make it slick when wet. Case your feet are wet from rain/snow or even got oil or something on your shoes. Just a tip.
Thanks for the idea! This paint is actually pretty grippy since I got satin finish and put it on with rough rollers.
And paint the faces and the outline (about 1" or so) of the stairs in the dark color as well so you can see where they end/start...
@@ConkerTheElephant I was thinking the same thing🤘
Pop a grind rail on top of that inside stringer 🤙
Thinking about it...
hopefully when i get a garage it looks half as good as this
be patient and make it happen!
I think you should put some angle iron on them so you can grind down it
I might do that!
Hope those stairs don't break on ya. My house had a staircase built that way and I feel through them because the nails sheered off and the block fell off the side. I would never build stairs that way, cut the stringers so the steps are supported on top of them.
I also have structural screws into each tread so I'm very confident in these
@@Kordare that's good to know, yea should be fine then. I only saw the nails go in and from personal experience I've seen it fail.
Noooo you're asking that joist hanger to do a job it wasn't designed for. It's not a cantilever bracket. The nail fixings shown at 8:35 aren't designed to hold a lateral load pulling in line with the timber grain. Especially only an inch in from the edge. Your test at 8:45 is levering a lateral load on the top of the hanger, where it's designed for a vertical load. That new outside stringer would have been better longer and going at an angle to fix directly to your existing stringer/bearer. Love your channel but I have OCD about construction design.
Hahaha yeah I realize that's not what they are designed for but once I added the 45 degree piece this thing is super solid. It is only a 6 inch overhang, it's not perfect but I'm okay with that.
Kordare Yeah indeed. A nailed strap on the top of that joist going under the floor sheet & wrapped over the bearer would do it. As you say it’s not going anywhere but it may flex. Just keep mother-in-laws off there.
@@DiscoFang haha thanks for the tip! I'm definitely an amateur at carpentry projects. I am a mechanical engineer so I at least try to make sure everything is safe even if it's not exactly proper.
sweet
Love da vids man keep it up💪🏽
Appreciate the support!
Stairs turned out great! Maybe a handrail on the outside?
Thanks! I'll definitely be doing a handrail on the loft, not sure about the stairs yet
@@eloquent-nuance already built a handrail on the loft. None on the stairs right now
Looks good, but not going to pass any inspection. Stringers should always be 2x12,s so enough wood is left between the birds mouths and the edge of the stringer . (5 inches at 90 degrees) and your tread width of 9.25” is not wide enough for current stair standards. The stringer length cannot be more than 6 feet unsupported either. Granted that is an easy fix here.
Not a big deal now, as it is your house so do as you wish, but may be an issue if you ever sell.
Appreciate the feedback!
💪💪
Great build. I think I would have just went over to the left wall of the garage and put a cantilevered landing over there and put the stairs going up over there. I'd be afraid of getting squirrely on the ramp and running up on or taking a header into the steps.
I feel like a grandpa for saying this but you should board up the gap between the ramp and step before you catch a limb or your head in there when you stack it
Haha yeah I was thinking about doing that too
If it was my ramp I'd consider cutting out a 3/4" plywood panel insert to fill the crescent-moon shaped void between the edge of the ramp and the bottom of the adjacent stair stringer. I could totally see someone falling on the ramp and jamming a limb or their head in between the stringer and the ramp. Yikes! Be safe, and great work.
Yeah I was thinking to do the same thing! Thanks!
🔥🔥🔥
When you were drilling into the concrete did you use a hammer drill? Sounded like a regular drill. Best setup for a house and garage- that is until you get married and she wants to live in a neighborhood. Another great video!
I was using a regular drill which takes forever to do, definitely need a hammer drill....
I hope you see this but you should add a grind rail to the stairs so you can grind down it and I think that would be a sick video so bye hope you see this
haha yess that would be sweet.
Could add another leg where is overhangs, box it in and use it for storage? Shelves or large cupboard
I could but didn't want to encroach too much on the lift area for working on cars.
@@Kordare ahhh yer makes sense. Class setup up so far man!
@@jakejohnson_ thanks 🙌
You are very talented and crafty. Btw, what cad program are you using?
Thanks! I use Pro/E Creo
Next can you plz build fence or railing
I'm planning to!
Well it looks great but one of the major problems with building a staircase is how you determine what angle to screw in the treads so they are level. Could you add that explanation somehow?
Maybe I missed it but why didn't you just push the ramp all the way out to the outter edge and then put the stairs against the wall?
To save room in the rest of the garage for car parking. There would be more unusable dead space against the wall if I did that.
You should put coping on the big quarter
I actually bought tubing for it but I like how smooth it is without
Kordare oh makes sense
looking good but since its the same color as the ramp maybe cause confusion ?? when coming at it I dunno looks good tho
Haha I don't think that will be a problem, thanks!
What kind of tree is It?
really wanna see you ride the ramp at the end of the video two
I think I'm gonna make a purely riding video soon!
I'm guessing your loft is 8 foot off the ground? So how long of a board did you use for your stringers? I am building stais for my hunting blind. It is 8 foot off the ground also.
Loft is 89" off the floor and stringers are 135"
How do you figure out the correct angle to cut the stringer to be flush with the floor and header?
Since I had it already in Cad I could use my drawings but it is basic trigonometry.
need a cover from the ramp to stair ,other than that good jobs
Can you do a vid of you just riding on your ramps
hmm yes I will!
@@Kordare thanks man
I have a question about your stairs, great construction, but I noticed that you did not use a level? Are they level?
They are level. I based everything off of the angles I used, it helped that I had them laid out in CAD so I could easily make sure everything would work out to be level.
be a lot cooler with a grinding rail ;)
Haha true
how long have you been using cad for?
6 years full time
Is there a reason to use nails instead of screws?
Nails are ten times cheaper compared to the structural screws, so I use them wherever possible. Decking screws shouldn't be used in these applications because they aren't rated for shear force. The only place I used the decking/construction screws was to screw down the flooring OSB.
U look to be in the engineering/designer field?
Yes I'm a mechanical engineer full time.
What are you gonna use the loft for
Mostly storage and a hangout space
@@Kordare ok I love your videos thanks for replying 👍I really love skateboarding can you make me one please mate thanks keep on uploading great videos
@@kylewillemse595 haha thanks a lot!
@@Kordare Really l would love one from you you are so cool😟you hurt my feelings mate na I'm out
@@kylewillemse595 haha sorry I have no idea how to make a skateboard but maybe I'll try someday.
0:23 what app is that ?
Pro/E Creo
Is it weird pooping with out a room with around you? hahaha
I'm building a stairway..... to nowhere.... Maybe if you've lived a good life, it's a stairway to heaven. The house/garage video was awesome... You should spend some time on youtube before doing more construction work yourself.
haha do you think my stairs are going to fall down?
Ur on tik tok right?
Yuuup
What do you do for a living? Lol
I'm a mechanical engineer and own a fabrication business
Why is it YOU chose NOT to show us the hardest to do thing? determine what your top and bottom agle is so you can cut the stringers. Why? Good job in general. Seem like no one wants to show us that.
Haha sorry probably because I just used CAD to figure it out. Just modeled everything to make sure it would work. There are also a million stair calculators online you can use.
