  • Hey flockers,
Today's pet vlogger video with Shelby the macaw, is how to get your pet bird to eat more veg. If you want to know:
How to get a parrot to eat veg
How to get a macaw to eat chop
    What is bird chop
    How to make bird chop
    What goes into bird chop
What should a macaw be eating
Then this video is for you. We are trying to change the way macaws and other parrots are fed, as we believe as much as 70+% of pet macaws and pet parrots are eating the wrong diet. If you want to know how to get your macaw eating chop or how to start introducing chop into your bird's diet then we strongly advise you give this a watch and actively communicate with the bird community who will be able to support you in getting your bird bird eating healthily.
Bird chop recipes are easy to make and fun for the whole family to get involved in and a healthy macaw diet can result in beautiful feather quality and much better behaviour, as well as a nice long life span.
If you have any tips on giving a bird vegetables then please drop them in the comments section below the video - the more people that see how a macaw or parrot should be eating the better!

I adopted my 15 year old rescue scarlet macaw recently on June 5. She is very picky and I’ve been trying to convert her onto an all fresh food diet. I’ve made her birdie bread which she eats a little bit of at least. She loves corn and I use that for training because she is more than willing to work for it! My rescue crimson bellied conure and yellow sided green cheek conure loved veggies from the start! They are huge veggie lovers and I would like my macaw to get there too. Slowly but surely she will start eating more veggies! I actually make all my birds species specific diets with veggies and grains native to their natural habitats. I include different percentages of foods depending on the species, like how macaws need more fat and grains in their diet and conures need more sprouted seeds. It’s a lot of work making multiple different chops but it’s worth it for the health of my birds. I freeze the bags of chop and it last me a few months. I also add a few other veggies not native to their natural habitats to provide some more natural vitamins that are not contained in the other veggies.

Good work, well done for going to such great efforts. Some people just give up and give nuts

Seed junkies are harder to convert so always start birds on a healthy diet. (breeders, I'm talking to you... CHEAPER isn't BEST if you care about birds) but once you have a seed junkie you can try many different ways to offer fresh vegetables as was mentioned. Steamed, raw, large and small pieces etc. I have had success with making the chop very small and sprinkling Hemp hearts on top.... They LOVE hemp hearts. Also adding fresh sprouts (I give 50% sprouts daily). Sprouts are seeds but they are healthy and birds sometimes recognize them as seeds. They are a living food. I have a mix that is the perfect balance that birds require as developed by avian nutritionist. Cheers!

Thank you so much for this. You’re totally right. It’s never too late for older birds but definitely needs to start with educated and ethical breeders.

I’ve been trying my blue and gold with lots of different fruit and veg other than the occasional grape or slice of apple she turns her nose up at anything healthy including nuts and most seeds. What do you recommend I could do to encourage her to try more foods

@@ShelbyTheMacaw thanks for you reply, she goes though her food to find mainly the sunflower seeds. Because I reformed her I’m not 100% what she has been fed in the past, I’ve tried dried pellets and all sorts but she won’t touch anything new

Why is everyone trying to sell their book to people instead providing the advice... Like guys, we get that you're running some sort of business but is that really neccessary.
These videos always go like speaking about the topic, giving maybe 1-2 advices and ends up with "to know the rest pls go buy my book".
