  • My review on both filters showing the flow rate. Both excellent products but the MIcro Squeeze wins for me. (I back flushed them the wrong way round in the video by mistake so ignore that).
Sawyer is a great company that does so much to help countries where clean water can be difficult to find - sawyer.com/products/

i just got back from a 14 mile, multiday, heat-advisory backpacking trip using the mini, and we needed to drink a lot of water and electrolytes to displace what we were sweating on the 100F trail. i was starting to get pretty impatient with how slow the mini was, given how much water i was putting through it. when i got home, i discovered they sold a "squeeze" filter. i immediately looked up a flow rate video, which led me here. and WOW!! I've gotta get my hands on one of the squeeze filters! thanks for the video.

Oh wow I didn't realise there was such a big difference. I do love that pure taste that comes through from the Sawyer minis....I'd much rather have had the water from those, than my bladder system with sterilisation tablets. But it was agony watching you trying to quench thirst in 25º heat, with little sips....I would absolutely use that higher flow Sawyer, in line with my bladder system rather than drink chlorine for a week. Nice practical review bud.

You just saved me from grabbing the wrong Sawyer! Flow rate is by far my biggest concern, I was going to go with the Katadyn BeFree but the filters don't last nearly as long. Great video 👍

I got the mini because I heard some reviews saying that the micro didn't last as long, plus the mini was a bit cheaper. Pretty happy with the mini, but the flow rate of the micro looks nice. I'm just wondering, did they some how have to make the filter in the micro not as good? If the water flows faster, you would think that the filter itself might not be as good at getting out smaller partials...

Exactly the same experience here - my Mini was OK but the Micro is a step up.
I would ditch the Sawyer pouches - I've had several fail in the field. Substitute with Platypus (I take a 2L and a 1L), the threads are compatible.
Btw you weren't backflushing there - you were forward flushing! You should have received a coupler (blue plastic threaded ring) with your Micro, which can be used for 'bottle-backflushing' - something that the Mini doesn't have.

Hmm the micro is actually supposed to have a slower flow rate than the mini after prolonged use. Also keep in mind the mini he’s had for awhile now, had plenty of use, the micro he’s using is newer. Also he’s backflushing the filters backwards keeping dirt and silt inside, probably why the mini isn’t working so well. Two with these filters you should never squeeze hard, if you have to squeeze hard to get something out something is wrong with your filter and you should back flush it immediately

Ya, I got the mini and it works great for me. I got it over the micro because I heard some reviews saying that the micro doesn't last as long (what you said in your first sentence). Pretty happy with it

@@clmfilms8103 also keep this in mind, I see a lot of reviewers go out and grab the dirtiest mucky water they can possibly find. You should never put water in these where you can physically see the dirt in it (unless you absolutely need to) but if your out hiking, don’t use the water from a puddle, get it from a stream. This filter is designed to stop bacteria and viruses, it’s not meant to have dirt forced through the tubes because the dirt is so much harder to flush out of these tubes. If last resort was to use dirty water hold your shirt over your water bottle as a prefilter to keep out heavy contaminants that you don’t want clogging your filter.

Ye I have heard the reputation of the micro. I will be taking the mini as back up.
