This is genius but, what if your pot doesn’t have a Handel?
I love Cadir Idris.🥰 Snowdon is far too busy nowadays! The views from Cadir are astounding.🥰
Thanks for the tips James, very useful, I'm doing it in September. I totally agree on the ultralight thing, I'm aiming for around 13kg which I train with, including a chair, as I'm nearly 60 and that is something I have come to really value having. I've done the Haute route in Switzerland so I know what to expect with steep climbs and false summits. I'm really looking forward to this one, it's right up my strasse.
Glad it helped l, enjoy the hike 👍
Nice one James just binge watched your coast to coast👏🏻
really good advice, no skipping over the tough bits and very concise - thanks
Glad it helped.
Down sleeping bag estimate for comfort limit for a male with average sleep temp: 700g: -5*C 500g: 0*C 400g: 5*C 280g: 10*C
Cloudup 2 is a great all rounder budget tent. Fee standing, so you can pitch anymost anyhwere, and not need to peg down like the Lanshan 2.
Cheap/improvised gators = plastic bags with an rubber band to hold them in place.
I pity the fool who drops litter in the countryside in front of me. I'm a militant git.
How much water did you carry between each fill up? What would you recommend? 2 litres? 3 litres? (I have a Katadyn Befree for rivers and streams etc)
Englands green and pleasant land. Aaaah..... 🌳___🌲🌲__🌲
That Osprey is known for speaking. I can only recommend a squirt of WD40 on the joints before a hike.
@JAMES what is your base weight kit list please?
Great to see you have not monetised your channel. Adverts do my head in. Thanks.
Food / energy estimates. For each hour you are hiking, you will need approximately 300Kcals in addition to your "base metabolic rate" this is how much energy you need if you were to lay on the couch all day. There are many calculators online to find your BMR. (~15Kcals per pound of body weight) Most adult men will need 3000-3500Kcals for each day. Those dehydrated meals are usually 350-450Kcals each. Do the math.
@JAMES What size pack would you recommend to carry everything you need for the trip? (food diversions if required.) How many days food did you carry at the start of the journey? Thanks.
Food tips: - Jars of peanut butter in plastic pots. - Stash a cache by car in a hidden place by car before you start your trip. - Get someone to meet you on your trip to drop of supplies. - Order a delivery food item to a location on a map that a scooter can reach. - "Carb load" before you leave. Google it. - Dehydrated foods. You can add water at many locations. - Oat packets for morning high energy. Finally - if you are feeling beaten, get a taxi into a village and book a room for a night.
Been looking for a windshield, something like this could be the way to go. Thanks for the idea.
Your presentation style is fantastic, very relaxed and genuine.
Thank you, glad it helped.
How hot damn hot as hot as two rats screwing in a wool sock on the hottest day of the year hot
Hi, when booking the campsites how do you do it/pay? Is it a case of calling them and paying cash when you turn up? Cheers
I booked in advance online.
Walked (with 4 others) from Southease to Eastbourne over night last June. Got to Alfriston around midnight with not a soul in sight.
Are you using an Exos 48? I’m so excited to do this journey before I leave my mid fifties 😂 lots of learning going on for me. Amazing.
Ye it is the 48, it's a great bag. Enjoy, it's an awesome trip 👍
So simple, smart and light. Well done. I knocked myself in the head saying, "Why didn't I think of that."
HOLD THE CAMERA STILL !!!!!!
Cool review. I just got a Stanley flask. I have always had crappy flasks that go cold quickly. It’s good to finally have a proper one. My newest one is made in 2010, in China. I’ve bought an older one, 1982, because I’ve heard the USA made ones are better. They hold heat longer. I’ll have to see how it goes.
Enjoy, it's a beast. I've dropped it multiple times and it's still going strong.
I drop my gear often so that’s good to know.😉👍🏼
Thank's for this genius DiY Hack😉
This is quality mate, I think we need more vids from this channel, it's great!
Outstanding idea! Should nest inside of your cup for transport, also.
Loved seeing this! Did c2c a while back, my experience of ennerdale was a little rainier than yours but isn't it just breathtakingly beautiful, looks like you had some cracking conditions...
Thanks for the video - comes across as really honest, like your other videos.
Would you say the hills in the SDW comparable to Bannau Brycheiniog?
Leaving the BRS burner head on has it's sealing O Ring permantly compressed, not good. Thanks for sharing
The ring is Chanctonbury Ring, an ancient Hill Fort, apparently haunted, most won't camp there! 😂 Good effort BTW 👍
Recently discovered your channel and I thoroughly enjoy all your content, keep it coming! Thank you.
In hindsight, would you have preferred to go east to west and had the Lake District to look forward to (except for the lower energy levels towards the end)?
Good question, it would of saved the best till last but the last is easier. I went that way as I had made lots of notes from other CZcamsrs about that route. You haven't got the sun I. Your face too much facing that way either.
Hi James, I have watched the SDW videos today as I will do it myself next year. I did enjoy the series and appreciate the advice too. Looking forward to catching up with later trips. All the best.
Glad you enjoyed it, take plenty of snacks 👍
I built an almost identical setup last week. I shaved down the tips of the stand so it fits in the pot. Also added a Sea to Summit collapsible cup that also fits inside.
Sorry, the can only connects to the pot not the stove??
I have my volume cranked and the speaker next to my ear. I think he's talking about the thermos.
Brilliant ! Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much.
Brilliant, thanks for sharing 👍
Planning on doing this one in September (2023). Thanks for the video 👍. Really can't wait as I've never been up Cadair.
Does anyone know of a pot with a similar design made of stainless steel? I find titanium annoying to work with.
OMG. What abuse of an innocent pool table!
Can you lock the lift handle on the lid so that it stays up like on other cups?
Loved this video. Loved the map but at the end. Thanks
Really good vid mate. Am doing in September with little dog. Still choosing shelter, great backpacking chair👍 could you develop the idea? Remember me! 😂
i just got back from a 14 mile, multiday, heat-advisory backpacking trip using the mini, and we needed to drink a lot of water and electrolytes to displace what we were sweating on the 100F trail. i was starting to get pretty impatient with how slow the mini was, given how much water i was putting through it. when i got home, i discovered they sold a "squeeze" filter. i immediately looked up a flow rate video, which led me here. and WOW!! I've gotta get my hands on one of the squeeze filters! thanks for the video.
What do you look for in a good wild camping spot on the SDW? Well hidden? how far off the path?
