Building a Wooden Boat in My Garage

- This video shows my two year journey of building a 19' Albion boat in my garage. The boat is a flat-bottomed sea skiff/dory designed by Jeff Spira from Spira International. This boat is a "plywood on frame" construction, fastened together using industrial adhesive, screws, and epoxy resin. The hull was constructed using marine grade plywood reinforced with fiberglass cloth and epoxy, which makes for a very sturdy hull. Most of the materials were purchased from Lowes, except for the epoxy and fiberglass, which were ordered from US Composites. It was an absolute pleasure to build and still brings about a feeling of accomplishment and pride!
Special thanks to Jeff Spira, Mark Vickers, and Louis Sauzedde for the inspirational boat building videos!
Enjoy the video!
That’s a sweet boat, I wish Jeff was still around so I could buy plans
Incredible! I'm dying to see it on the water. Keep posting updates.
Really nice!! Thank you for sharing!!!!

It's great that I also have a video of making a traditional wooden boat
ik vindt hem helemaal super heel veel plezier er mee en ik ga er ook eentje maken
best video and boat ever!
Thanks Marsha!
Awesome video. Was disappointed not to see it in the water at the end. Hopefully your busy on the high seas and will be updating soon...
Very nice
Great job. Are you going to make another video of the finished boat and you out on the water.
how's it doing after a year? any video of how it performs? trailer details? i want to get started once the heat settles down over here in AZ
Job nicely done. Perhaps you could make a follow up video while on the water so we can see how it sits and plans. Some specs would also be interesting like engine power, planing speed, top speed and economy. Mobile phone GPS based apps like DigiHUD (and many others) can give you accurate speed and distance information. Just curious.
Jeff Spira has a video of the Albion planing with a 25hp: spirainternational.com/hp_albi.php
Wow! Great job! Looks like a beauty! What kind of fishing do you plan to do with her? Lakes? Intercoastal Waterway? Salt flats? Looks like it'll be a fun boat! Any future plans to put a Bimini Top on it?
Nice build! I noticed you didnt installed the sheer clamp, did it make any difference?
nice build hows it holding up
Nice work! I have been sitting on a set of Spira plans for almost a year now, just so many other small projects that need the garage space. Any pics on the water yet? Please do a video on you first voyage!
What was your project costs?
Japanese boat opjak
Looks great! How much did it end up costing you? I'd love to build one, but want to make sure it's within my budget.
Fiber glass and resign is the most expensive along with boat motor
How much money did you spent on this boat en what type of wood did you use? Great vid now I want to build one to haha.
Hi it's a nice-looking boat I have been meaning to built one my son is finally old enough to help me out wanted to make it a father-and-son project but I just recently learned jeff has passed away and website is no longer active and plans are no longer available I live in Myrtle Beach I was wondering if you still have your plans on hand and would you willing to share I also want to know how the book is doing after all these years how difficult is the up keep any way hope to hear from you some time if you don't mind thanks for your time
Hi. Look good. I have one question: how did You connect parts of botom? On the frame or playwood with glue?
Did you use plans if so where can I get them
Great job !!! ... about how much did it weigh ???... oh heck , must have missed the 600 lbs. part , never mind got it !!!
how can I get your plan?
Music credits?
What are the boat dimensions?
Nice work! I'd also be interested in plans?
I hope you used marine grade plywood.
Hello good day my congratulations beautiful boat
I would like to please provide me with the measurements of your boté to build one for my family and enjoy the sport fishing that we like so much
I really enjoyed this video, but it would be much better if you left th text on screen a few seconds longer
If the short follow-up video is any indication, he lost interest and sold it incomplete after installing the center console.
Well done
Yea, I learned so much about building boats from
amusingwoodworking com
Woodglut has very good and accurate plans.
Picture captions flash by too fast... cant even read them, annoying haveing to stop reverse start stop start ruined the whole vid
I have to agree. I watched the first minute or so and then changed settings to play at half speed. It was a lot better that way. Nice boat, though! It would be really interesting to see a follow-on video about installing the motor and cables.
