  • We are back and upgrading our dually 6.0 powerstroke sled pulling truck. All about getting as much air jammed into this engine as possible! This banks intercooler, intercooler pipes, boots and clamps is a serious set up! Featuring the only intercooler kit that utilizes 3.5in pipes and intercooler inlets. A substantial difference in power and drop in egts. By far one of the best upgrades I’ve ever done❗️

    I did a Banks Techni-Cooler Intercooler System on the 6.0 F250 I drive. Only difference is I had the intercooler custom coated with a metallic based Thermal Dispersal Coating that's found on the M1 Abrams Tanks. And the intake airhorn was honed to limit airflow turbulence at the inlet. Made a massive difference on a semi stock 6.0
    As far as the snapped stud issue. Yeah I had that happen to me and my friend whose a machinist with metals looked over the stud material and said that the stud was made out of cheap Chinese pot metal.

      @eastonruppe5730 as far as the stud issue.. I really couldn't tell ya. It would be a gamble.. but one that's easily fixed and resolved with the right people and the right hardware. I'd invest in it since it made a noticeable difference in throttle on the truck I drive.

    I'm going to have to watch more videos of this project. I normally just watch race truck vids. I have the same Odawgs intake and the Banks Technicooler on my pickup as well. I fight egt with mine though. I think I may need a new exhaust though. Id like to see what yours do. It looks like it could be a daily driver as well as sled puller.
    Another great video. Keep em comin

    The stud broke on me also but I bought my intake neck used, so I used a threaded rod that size and it works fine.

  • @jbussey5301
    @jbussey5301 Před rokem

    Easy solution is to get torx style fine thread studs from like McMasters Carr with a high torque yield rating and problem solved. However, if you're running higher boost pressures, you'll want to go with a corse thread to ensure a solid hold down. You just have to check the torque of those every now and then.

    Looks great.. but you should look in to getting some kind of cold air box or at least make you some type of divider to seperste the air filter from the hot under hood temps. It doesnt seem like its a big deal but it actually helps quite a bit i run the banks data monster and when i bulit a divider for my filter and kept tuat hit engine heat out my kntake temps droped a decent amount the intake air dencity improved and tne MAD improvef witch all mean mlre power
    I love Banks products ive ran his stuff on every cummins ive owned 3 that ive sold and my current 2022 3500 dually tow rig i use for work aking a BIT more than stock and she gets worked hard and also on my daily a 2020 3500 srw and it makes a good amount of power waiting to dyno to get real numbers. I think im going to run both on the dyno to see where there at

    I’m a marine diesel mechanic. Cat uses those sealing washers or “atmospheric washers” in many locations. We O-ring lube or wherever lube is handy on the mating services. This alleviates the rubber grabbing in balling up. I would assume banks uses the studs as a weak link that will break before the aluminum threads pull out of the intake manifold. Or maybe there just cheap Chinese crap 🤷🏼‍♂️

      @ThouTriple8s My whole engine is getting the "BulletProof " process as they say. New KDD heads. Odawgs intake. Kc stage 2 turbo. Stage 2 RCD cam. New injectors, Ficm, water pump. All new sensors like map, cam and crank etc etc. New glow plugs, module and harness. Lifters. Bearings. So I was curious about the rails. Or Re-seal them. Heard HHC nipple cups are pretty good

    is there a way to see if the intercooler is bad without pulling it?

    • @LeftLaneDiesels
      @LeftLaneDiesels  Před rokem

      You would have to pressurize it. Look along the end tanks for a pile of oil and debris, that’s typically a pretty good sign

      @@chrisrogers8694 best method is remove the intercooler and cap both sides. One side should be drilled and tapped for a air fitting. Then use regulated air to your desired pressure. From there if you don’t hear anything get some soapy water and spray it down inspecting for bubbles.

      It’s hard to give real world feedback. It seems to always be seat of the pants feel. Sure I could compare numbers(boost, egts, iat, etc..) but if I can’t show a increase in power than what’s the point. I REALLY wish I could dyno the trucks after each mod.
      What did I notice after the intercooler, I saw a decrease in boost pressure but an increase in spool up. However I have suspicions that my intercooler was leaking so the data is skewed anyway.

    Spending $800+ for an aftermarket 7.3 intercooler is one of the dumbest things you can do. But still not quite as dumb as spending $450+ on a "balanced assembly". 😂 If I absolutely had to upgrade mine, I'd go with the CXRacing double core. It's f'n huge.

    As a banks high ram setup owner. The banks high ram "elbow" mounting setup is garbage. Currently I'm in the process of modding mine to bolt up to the manifold just like an odawgs system. This way it won't have the long studs running inside that are made of chineseium. Edit. Didnt get to the part where you broke the stud before posting! Same experience. As dumb as it may sound, a black intercooler is a terrible design choice. Black (dark colors in general) absorbs heat from the surroundings better than other colors. This is also true in applications where you may not expect it like here.

    • @traviskruse2153

      They also dissipate heat better in certain cases. If you paint an air cooled engine black it runs cooler.

    I’m believer in no painting anything that is used as a cooler ! Like inter -coolers and radiators , I think paint holds the heat in !
