    That frame looks rather interesting around the crank set. To me, it almost looks as though the frame was designed to take a mid drive electric motor.

      @papablueshirt  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Yeah, I have confused these types as mid drives. Actually that is where they put the controllers. The side opens up and slides down the pedals. Then you can work on the controllers.

    I watched your other video where you did this to your Hanevear. Then went and bought the stuff you linked to in that video. Now I'm all set to do this mod on the Hanevear.
    In advance, thanks.

      @papablueshirt  Před 3 měsíci

      Yeah, it seems like I have to do it to all my new bikes. For some reason they all use the same freewheel, even though they are super fast bikes. Anyway, it is an easy mod, glad the video helped : )

      @@papablueshirtWell, I assume they all use the same freewheel because all the bikes have the same Shimano groupset, at least as near as I can see, they all look exactly the same on my four e-bikes, and in all the CZcams review videos.
      It seems that that particular Shimano groupset is the one that all manufacturers now use. It is probably dirt cheap since the Company is selling so many of them.
      In fact, I have that same exact groupset on an ebike I bought in 2018 (Rad Rover).

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 3 měsíci

      Yeah, that is kind of what I thought as well. Dirt cheap. I am always a little relieved when I see it is the same, then I know it will be an easy change and I know what to buy : )

    Would have been helpful if you could explain what ghost pedalling is.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Sorry, I should have been more clear. Ghost pedaling is when the bike is going faster than you can pedal. Not sure why they call it that. Basically the bike is able to go faster than you can move your legs so you are kind of just spinning or pedaling like a maniac. This slows down your leg cadence so you can actually pedal when you are doing 35 mph. Hope that helps : )

      In the words of a very young Ricky Nelson "I don't mess around boy" : ) I can change these in my sleep, LOL. I have one ordered for my E-Bycco too.

    How much of a workout do you think you are getting? Your rides look fairly tame on the question of steep hills and traffic, which is why I am looking into an ebike because I have 20 % grades in any direction around me. If I were in your area I would just keep to my road bike and have a quicker workout. Can’t use my race bike due to a fractured spine. Can’t look up.

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 13 hodinami

      I just finished my morning ride of 76 miles. They say riding an ebike you burn 20% less calories than on a regular bike. So that would put me at about 61 miles according to what they say. I always say that I burn less, but I go much further than I ever would on a regular bike. As my back issues are getting better, I am trying to do 100 miles a day. I usually do about 75 in the morning and the rest in the afternoon. However, heat index will be 110 today, so I padded my miles yesterday and did 126 so I would not have to ride this afternoon. [my wife does not like me to ride in the extreme heat, otherwise I would do it LOL]
      I love my ebike, I can not ride a regular bike because of health issues [back, hip, etc] I am retired, so time is not an issue. It is a good thing the battery wears down or I would probably ride all day as I love it so much. It makes me feel 16 again, and I love that feeling : )
      When I made this video it was only a short test ride, I even had my crocs on LOL. The app I use said this mornings ride I had 3,125 feet of elevation change, so it is pretty hilly. Not much traffic though, I think I interacted with 5 or 6 cars today ; )

    I wonder if this would mess up the pedal assist or the way the bike reads thoughts on battery or motor

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I did this same conversion on my H8, after almost 14k miles the major thing it affects is when the motor kicks in when you are starting out. If you are in the high gear when you start, the pedals take longer to go around so the bike thinks you are going slower than you are. So it takes a little longer to start assisting. I solve this by down shifting when I am stopping. But if I forget it is no big deal. I just get going then down shift and I am off to the races.
      I also upgraded the crank which that video is coming up soon. Both together made the bike so much more rideable at higher speeds. Hope that helps : )

    Toss up between the H8 or Jumbo or the discover 2 velotric. The H8 has free shipping even though same weight as the Jumbo. I think the velotric has free shipping also. Same price as the jumbo but has torque sensor. Can one be added to the Philodos?

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  Před 11 hodinami

      Must be a typo on their page because I am sure the jumbo weighs more than h8 because of the dual battery. I love them both. I put over 14,000 miles on the H8 in a year. Have quite a few miles on the jumbo right now plan to have that at 15,000 by the end of the year so it has been a blast. Between the H8 and the jumbo, I guess it would depend how many miles you plan on riding. If you ride crazy miles like me. I would certainly go with the jumbo but I did put a dual battery on h8 so it is possible. I don’t know if you can put a torque sensor on either one, but I usually go full speed anyway 😂

    Why did I give this a thumbsdown? You do not explain things using words. Like 1. I'm changing out a for b and this is b... b is from this company, and I am expecting this result. Then, as your testing, wow b has provided a much better ride, resulting in ? Without this, you're just some old guy putting on a part, and we get zero feedback on how it improved your ride. I see this in most of your videos. Fix that and you will get more hits. What , why and how it helped. Good luck your getting there, and I applauded your efforts

      Thanks for the comment. I am not a very good talker [If you only knew my back story, you would say what are you doing trying to run a youtube channel. It should not be possible LOL]
      Anyway, I think the title pretty much says why I made the change, to stop the ghost peddling. I only took it for a few minute spin, so I had limited experience with the new part. I do talk about it in later videos. Most of my videos are vlog style videos just showing this old guy trying to stay active and bringing everyone along for the ride. Not too many grandpas ride 15k miles a year and it is interesting to some people.
      As a person who had to post 55 videos before I got my first subscriber [has to be a youtube record] the channel is already more successful than my wildest dreams. Which proves, even an old codger like me can get an audience. I do appreciate all who watch immensely and I also appreciate your feedback. Maybe this old dog can learn a few new tricks. Take care and thanks for watching.
