The silvery backdrop is unmistakably the aluminium foil rolls that local town-milk bottling plants used to give away for free after milk bottle caps had been stamped out of them. For several decades just about every school dance / disco in New Zealand was adorned with the stuff; happy days and wonderful memories of a song that manages to be both happy and melancholic at the same time (probably an accurate reflection of a national trait!)
Probably largely set dressed from the vast and wonderful resource that was and is chchch's 'Creative Junk' - a community run resource (Formally The Early Childhood Resource Centre) the foil and adhesive rubber circles as well as tubes and containers were staples still going decades and generations later - go visit!
