Ricky Gervais said it best “just because you’re offended, it doesn’t make you right”
Ricky Gervais is a moron.
Jack Reilly and so are you
Ian TB said it none the less 😂
Just because you are not offending doesn't mean you are not my enemy
@Ignore what I’m about to say but no that's not what it means. Idiot
How can Darren Lewis say a white man wont know how it feels to be embarrassed by other people for how he or she looks, hes basically saying the only people that can be bullied are black people. Come on.
100% right it's like only black people suffer from racism when it's a world wide thing no matter what colour you are
white people get bullied to, not just black people.
Darren Lewis spoke the truth
@@davidnewell7183 Racism yes but I don't agree with the feelings he said can't be associated with white people as well. Yes, there may be only one black person in a room with 20 white people but if the idea is of standing out, any different personal features e.g. maybe being very thin or fat, or having an aesthetic difference to others in a room can make someone stand out and feel very self conscious. The feeling of alienation is not exclusive to black people so the idea that white people couldn't empathise with the feelings associated with being a victim of racial abuse I don't agree with. Racial abuse is a tool to demean black people but skin colour alone isn't the only tool individuals can use to demean others so I don't agree with Lewis.
@@own1997 I agree with you mate your 100% right
Bernardo Silva breathes class and genuine humanity, this guy isn't racist and is an honest mistake to those offended. I personally think John Barnes is spot on.
Fuck those who are offended. Why would they try so much to be offended. It obviously isnt rascist in any shape or form. If he did the same with ederson or something no one would bat an eyelid.

@@bluenose4903 the fuck has the guys name got anything to do with it.
John Barnes went through proper hard core racism during his early playing days. So I think he knows the difference between hatred of ethnicity and banter. Question is would Hugh Woozencroft still find it offensive if the cartoon pic sent to Mendy was sent by another black player? hmm
DavZ what does "proper hard-core racism" mean?? A seemingly lighthearted joke or banter as you call it, can still be racist. It doesn't have to be overtly discriminatory or abusive. If you don't understand why Bernardo Silva's tweet was racist, you probably don't understand racism very well... or maybe you don't want to understand.
There are far to many people looking to get offended these days...so much so they look for it. You clearly are a little snowflake, then try to twist it so other people are dumb if they don't understand why you are so easily offended.
@@ericblue2024 let me explain something. Being called B**** bastard or N***** is racist not small matters like this. Mendy is a team mate of his he shouldnt be offended and if he had any decency he would publicly say this does not offend me lets forget about it.
Craig Irwin and banter on that level should be kept private, once you put it out into the social media world you better be ready to deal with the backlash! Silva has been stupid by posting the tweet and is now getting the back lash rightly so

Completely agree with John. Imagine if Mendy did this to Bernardo Silva and it was a white version that looked like him? Nobody would even mention it.
That exact thing was posted on Silvas twitter by a black man, asking why no one found it offensive....Have a look....
Deacs Nobody would mention it because there are no negative stereotypes with regards to looks and caricature’s that have been used to oppress white people for generations on a large scale. It’s for the same reason that if a black man called a white man a “n*****” there would be no public outrage.
@@anjolaalabi5569 so racism is only a white against black issue?. I'd love to know your thoughts on this....I'm genuinely interested. Dont want a row over it, but if anyone wants a discussion on the subject then please post your opinions. Kante really does get everywhere, even a tweet between Mendy and Silva !!

@Cobbster dont be too slow
This comment is underrated.
JB is arguing about moving forward. He has an argument. The rest say what their audience want to hear.
So true
John is arguing with the permanently offended. He's fighting a losing battle.
But looking at these comments, the people are with John
@@annother3350 you're right but that's because he's using common sense which has no place in the current offended culture.
I appreciate that people these days are easily offended. But you cannot blanket every complaint under that umbrella of permanently offended as you put it. There is in some cases as this one a case to be answered. Dismissing off hand every case will inevitably give bigotry a win. The picture was reminasent of the racist tropes paddled in years gone by and the least Silva needs is an education on how that picture which he posted on the Internet can be taken as offensive. If he had kept it between him and Mendy than there is no case but opening it up to the whole world to see without the inner context of the relationship they have is problematic and is rightly questioned. John B has a valid point when it comes to the fact that black and thick lips are not offensive but a natural appearance of some black people, what he is failing to understand or refuses to admit it that as much as we would like to change the narrative its a process not an event. It won't happen over night we need to talk about it and eventually in years to come it might be okay but historically that image has been used to disparage, mock and ridicule black people and yes we will find it offensive regardless of context because there has been no dialogue on this issue.
John is so full of himself. Other narcissistic psychopaths on the internet agree with and like him. That's why
@@annother3350 BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE AND CLOSET RACISTS!
How is it offensive when it resembles him? People make fun of Harry Kane's accent and no one cries racism. People say Unai Emery looks like Dracula and no one cries racism. People say David Luiz & Guendozi look like Sideshow Bob and no cries racism.
A joke happens between two friends at the expense of the black friend and suddenly it's racist.
If Mendy made that joke about Silva...nothing would have been said. History is fucking up the present.
A joke that was shared publicly? Get some friends who don't look like you and ask them how they feel? You need the blue eyes vs brown eyes test
The part where he says you can’t relate to Liam neeson because he is white but you can relate to the black community is the entirety of the problem. People see themselves as a race, don’t think they can relate to other races because of skin colour and life experiences. We are all human, we should be able to relate to every human experience, we’re all the same regardless of colour
Well said!!
Ye "we should be able to relate to every human experiences", but we live in a radicalized world due to socioeconomic history. This started a long time ago and has solidified and cemented itself in to culture and politics of modern day societies and affecting the way people as individuals connect with the world with interal identity conflicts individuals suffer with having issues with how they see themselves vs how others see them leading to feelings of social exclusion with a variety of negative results combined with other factors. Race and racism is perpetuated and on going currently with it so firmly intertwined with global socioeconomics, like for example the medias attention on islamist terrorist attacks where they heavily focused on Europe and US but the majority were and are outside Europe but don't receive no where near as much attention or sympathy for other countries. You also have drugs testing in brown and black people country for treatment and cures the people don't even need or want and neglect the ones they need. It's simple poc lives matter less on the global scheme of things and like I pointed out it's because of history. Its cemented itself soo much in to culture there are comedians that have made their career of racist jokes and a lot push the boundaries on what is acceptable. If someone accident slipped up and said it at a news channel your can expect them to lose their job, even if it was intended as a joke. I myself like many others have exchanged jokes with friends that push the boundaries but wouldn't dare do so in the public sphere because they are offensive Silva should just get a little slap on the wrist and that's about it.
Back to the point on experiences. Radicalized world means no we can't really relate but we can be educated. I wouldn't expect a man with no child to understand what's it's like for a man to lose his, I wouldn't expect a lion to know what it is like to be a Chicken, so why does it matter what the lion has to say on the chicken? Shouldn't we just listen to the chicken.
That's long
Tight!
Keyser Soeze exactly, but people of different skin colour can be part of the same culture and vice versa, there’s nothing wrong with acknowledging cultural differences but making skin colour the primary focus is detrimental to human progress

I'm portuguese just like Bernardo and to us conguito was actually a sweet way to call a little black kid. Sometimes culture changes peoples perception of what is offensive. We have an entertainer who calls himself that and tweeted his support for Bernardo. If that image is a bit much for our 2019 social media sensibilities I can agree but people are just going on a witch hunt right now and that's sad.

Too many snowflakes and hypersensitive people in our society. But, I think regarding this issue it's not a white man's place to say that. A black man can judge the situation and say that to another black man. Otherwise it's like an American giving us an opinion about "soccer". The first thing in your head is WTF do you know about it.
If Mendy isn’t offended there is absolutely no issue since it wasn’t aimed at anyone else. It isn’t racism. It’s the same as when pale white people get compared to squashies when they get sunburnt. It isn’t degrading the person’s skin colour it’s just drawing a comparison as a joke. Some people just like to find excuses to be offended
You need to go educate yourself we have had so much said on anti Semitism do you think it would be except able to make references of big noses of Jewish people as a example would that be excepted??

@@ibelieve2779 Ignorant? Possibly. Racist? No. Both men have come out publicly and explained that it was intended as a joke. The fact that you believe that all black people must think the same way that you do, and be offended by the same things that you are, is extraordinarily ugly and actually quite a fascist mindset to hold - not everybody is going to share your opinion and that is OK.
It is the negative reaction that makes it racist. A mountain over a molehill.
Christopher Andreou there is a negative reaction because it IS racist. That caricature of Mendy, didn't even look human, let alone like him. If Mendy is ok with it, they should keep these type of things between themselves.
To The pure everything is pure and To The corrupt everything is corrupt. If your a thief you think everybody is a thief. If your a racist you think every thing is racist. Eric Archavaleta you are so out of touch it’s frightening. You are actually the problem in society because you create racism out of something which ordinarily would be a non-incident.
The idea that we can’t show a caricature of a black person is actually demeaning to black people. You’re suggesting they are so weak they need protecting from the basic satire and caricatures that everyone else would be subjected to. In your small minded world everyone is equal but some are more equal than others. We all know how that story ends up. Wake up or shut up

Yep, now funny how no one sees that as racist. I’m a black man myself and I’m ashamed that we are being offended by anything and everything to do with our race.
I really like how John Barnes explains this. Also if the person this was intended to is not offended why would anyone else be.
Talking over John Barnes. Shame on you. He had it in the 80s late 70s. Disgraceful media.

I grew up watching Barnes, I know he went through a shed load of racism. He talks so much sense here.
“I’m not talking about the stories I’m talking about the headlines”
What?
Such a dumb argument, why discuss specifics when you can generalize with something SPECIFICALLY designed to grab your attention! Logic!
I didn’t like the fact the presenter had earlier asked barnes about being perceived as “siding with aggressors’.....then simply read out those headlines without any context or input from barnes, doing exactly what he accused prior media of doing.
He didn’t need to make his point of headlines without context by actually carrying it out.
It's a disgrace. My mate thinks I look like Denis the menace. Get a grip.

People that are programmed to be offended, those that virtue signal, seem to be so condescending when they make a point. Only one person talks with conviction in this conversation and that's John Barnes.
They always seem to talk about the past and don't want to draw a line and move on. And they always want to talk on behalf of others, rather than putting what they truly believe out there, in case of repercussion from the mainstream media thought police.
that's the one point I found strange with their narritive.
This was Barnes faced by two defenders and he turned both inside out and left them for dead.
Barnes gave them realness, realness these two will never know. Both of them want to be offended and tried to divert and throw strawman arguments such as the headlines to defeat John. Instead John gave them facts, insight and stuck to his guns.

You need to recognize the ones in england as well, not just italy.
But these crude cartoons enable more overt racism. It's subtle and subconscious racism, racism doesn't have to be intentional, in fact most often it isn't; that's problem and wide misconception.
Then the guy goes after john to try a smear his character....why must a man be afraid to voice his own opinion because of what other people may think of it!!!

About bloody time someone with some 'CommonSense' broken this down. Come on da Reds!!!
John Barnes: “What is offensive?”
Other guy: “It’s comparing a black person... to a non-human”
What a joke! That’s like getting offended when someone uses a metaphor or simile to compare. Is it offensive when someone says “you’re as fast as a cheetah?!” Obviously not! The comparison between the cartoon and Mendy was nothing negative so I don’t understand why this guy thinks anything of it. I know racism happens all the time and it’s honestly terrible but it’s reasons like this guy that helps continue racism! He places his anger towards the opposite race and that makes him racist himself. He’s not really justified what exactly makes the post racist and instead his reaction shows how he has racism against white people...racism stops when everyone learns to get along with one another and show genuine respect and appreciation for one another. It doesn’t stop by continually displacing anger towards others that do not deserve it. I can see how some people would feel offended by that post. It was a stupid post but to go as far as to call Bernardo racist is uncalled for. He’s such a kind person who like everyone of us makes mistakes. Move on and learn from this!
Totally true
John is wrong. Bernado's intent wasn't racist yes but he must be educated with the history behind that message/image. Pictures like that were used to dehumanize darker black people. Bernado's intent wasn't to dehumanize but someone could have felt that way seeing that tweet. Should he be called racist no! Uneducated on the issue, yes, but banned for six games no... Not even fined an apology is enough. Bernado is A GOOD person who just made a mistake. The mistake here would be to say that making jokes like that is okay because I'm light-skinned and I can't even send that as a joke it's called colorism. Again Bernado isn't racist.
Chris Walker so stupid im 6 ft 4 if someone added eyes to a ladder and and tagged me I’d laugh it off honestly the world is pandering to fucking welks and making life to difficult
@@adambridgman4933 you've most likely never heard of Jim Crow? Like i said it's about the history. You can't make jokes about the holocaust. Or atleast educated people don't. What we need to remember it's about the kid that is darker of skin they will get most of the racist comments not us adults. Imagine school kids making the same reference.
I kinda like the way John Barnes is looking at this. Everyone knows racism has gone for so long and still it’s not getting any better despite all the campaigns etc. So he’s coming with a new approach to try and finally eliminate racism, because tbh without changing this, even just mentioning colour of skin as a factual statement rather than an offence will always be perceived as racist
John Barnes speaks so much sense, he makes these characters look childish.
If someone showed a picture of me and the milky bar kid 🧒 , I wouldn’t call them racist cus some people might think I look like him 🤷🏼♂️
The same people that get offended on others be half off others would probably laugh not call it racist
Couldn’t agree with John more. Think that people saying this type of thing is offensive is stopping things from progressing in terms of equality
People these days, "I am offended by a joke that the person it was aimed at wasn't offended by, also I decided it's racist because reasons". Makes a mockery of people that are actually suffering real racism, and I'd argue sub conciously it is fueling racism to some degree.
If anything, Silva should have known better than to share the image publicly on Twitter.
John barnes spot on.
Context is king
Kante sitting in the house shouting at the radio "how the fuck did I get brought into this?"
I wish these young guys with potential would listen to JB..he's lived real racism,he knows real racists,he's condemned real racism. And he has the correct recipe for moving forward. To be black is not offensive,to have big lips is not offensive.
Paul Parker I totally agree with u kid!!!!!😜🍷😂
"I personally found it offensive..." because it meant that I could take a position of moral superiority over another and try and shame them into submission. I can also use the whole situation to further my position and career by guilting people. Brutal honesty from TS!
The producers were definitely burning😂
Love how he only read negative comments.
Darren Lewis is always over the top when it comes to these topics
The 2 radio guys are a disgrace
Can the sports bar return to Friday?
Shut both these muppets up, also respect to the guy in black that just stayed silent 🙂
John Barnes speaking sense! Legend 🙌🏻🙌🏻
How have we got to a state in society where other people are trying to sit and convince someone to be offended by something?
Both John Barnes and the commentators have excellent points.
I agree with the commentators. The chocolate cartoon character in question does resemble racist golly dolls and racist black and white minstrels. I was offended by it for this reason.
Also, I agree with John Barnes. For centuries, Black people have been ridiculed for our natural features that differ from Europeans’. We should celebrate our natural look and not let thick lips or broad noses be seen as a point of shame.
I don't agree with the idea that this is PC gone mad or any of that. When you make a joke public, people might get offended. If you don't like that, keep your jokes private or, better yet, find less offensive jokes.
Sayin people writing in sayin John Barnes is speaking truth and voice of reason are 99 white, thats racist right there. 💯
WookiesYaUncle true that, I agree with Barnes and I ain’t white
loooool ppl are exposing themselves especially the white ppl 🤣
Adam not just a tweet. it’s much more to that and that’s the problem right there. your commentary is lazy.
