Still, have you seen US political debates? It could be *much* worse. You must admit, powerloading 3 to 5 questions before an answer can be given is not kind either. How many countries in the EU will want France to be their security guarantor? If France could defend itself, it wouldn't be a part of NATO. France has donated very little military aid to Ukraine, yet Macron had the audacity to say that the West should be open to sending troops to Ukraine. Macron and the EU can send troops to Ukraine. It doesn't have to be under NATO.
Russia is not an economic hyper power.
Maybe not, but they are a "hyper nuclear power" as they own the Earth's largest stockpile of THERMONUCLEAR WEAPONRY!
It's a messy debates. The moderator should limit their speeches in minutes and not jumping from different subjects.
France is painfully coming to terms that they are an insignificant country with no influence in the world, now not even in Africa.

Germany should just leave Euro and get their own local currency. Than Italy, France and Greece can play their own games together!
A good start would be to get Europe to spend more of its own GDP on its own defense and build up its own arms industry.

France is the only country in the world after the US to have a full military industry (and of course, the only country in the EU)
Macron has actually been very forward-thinking on this one. He’s pushed a built-in-Europe defense-industrial policy for years. Unfortunately, most other European states-most conspicuously Germany and Poland-are still perfectly happy to buy American (and now Korean).
I’m on Macron’s side of this debate, personally. The U.S. isn’t a reliable partner any longer. The MAGA wing has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to abandon America’s allies at the slightest inconvenience. Europe needs to rely on itself.

Ukraine needs its arms, and unkowningly arguing their citizens should fight street to street as under-equipped militias in an entirely occupied ukraine is offensive. They need help, not abandonment in the guise of goodness.

As an American with no horse in this race, I must say, I find the utter breakdown in decorum here to be reassuring and refreshing. I thought only American political debates degenerate into verbal sparing and shouting matches. I feel so much better now. 😟

This was the most chaotic debate yet. I started watching f24 debate a few months ago. If this was my first time watching, I wouldn't be watching again.
I like this debate for the diverse opinions. However, the manner here is far off. The Host should not allow someone who is louder ruder getting more opportunities and time. My opinion is biggest problems here is low productivity. Europeans need to change their culture or allow massive deregulation on ai and let automation help reduce the dependency on the other part of the world.
You make an excellent point with respect to EU productivity, and you also make a fine observation with respect to the management of the guests of the debate.
Tell me then, which continent is the one making the dodgy Boeing 737 Max planes? That's right, America. Be careful in your rush for "productivity", you might just put passengers lives in danger.

I found the public here and the leads in the autocratic world don’t like the ugly truth, somehow kind of spoiled. No pay no gain, long term or short term interests you cannot have both of them. What people proud of here are brilliant and meanwhile not business friendly, except bureaucracy all should not be changed. However AI adoption can help to leverage the high cost here but also bring the risk of abuse…
I think he's very good at strategic ambiguities. I can never quite get what his intentions are, but he generally avoids offending too much.

I love how EU leaders keep talking about stopping climate change, yet they seem to not give a s*it about Romania aggressively and illegally being deforested by Austrian companies, as if the environment somehow has borders and others are not affected by it.
Yeah but its all bs. So they cut down trees in the US, then they are turned in wood snippers and sent by boat to Europe where they are burnt for energy. This is considered environmental friendly by the EU. It makes zero sense.

Ukraine 🇺🇦 gave up its nuclear weapons according to the Minsk Agreement. The Russian Federation broke that agreement. Therefore, the EU should replace those nuclear weapons with similar ones to Ukraine.

What a useless discussion. It would have been a better to invite political analysts to assess Macron's speech, not these bickering politicians.
Less EU is better, much less EU! In the early 1960's Charles de Gaulle made it clear to British PM Harold McMillan that he did not want a federal state! He wanted to preserve that diversity that could be found in European countries!
The mortal danger is if the current sets in the EU Commission and EU Council remain. That would mean continued malfeasance and will spell the end of the EU and Europe.

The comment about Brussels dictating solutions for all countries to follow does cause enormous problems. Different countries have different infrastructures and different ways of working. There needs to be autonomy within countries with working practices that just follow a broad directive around policies. Micro managing does not work.

What is a hyperpower except a term to make non-superpowers feel special? We didnt subsidize the internet or advertising. We let wealth accumulate and are benefiting from deep pockets looking for places to invest. We subsidize oil whereas EU subsidizes food; one is needed by people, the other by the economy. To stimulate the economy, create a surplus of the raw inputs. We created a surplus of capital following a surplus of energy and infrastructure. Im actually starting to see why we aren't funding education more; EU does but without support for business, whats it really worth?

I was surprised to see people arguing for negotiations with Putin. Negotiations, if they could achieve what these people envision, would give Putin the Ukrainian territory his military has taken. Negotiations would reward Putin.
The idea that French forces would fight in Ukraine seems to be going in the right direction. That is only a suggestion at the moment, but Europe needs to think about what Putin's invasion of Ukraine means for Europe.
France is not even among the 7 top helpers of Ukraine for a country that is making sooooooo much noise about Europe and its military autonomy.

BTW, as an English language teacher and Cambridge/IELTS examiner, I am always humbled and appreciative when non-native speakers speak English, especially the French since their language is so beautiful. I know it's not easy to express yourself as clearly and articulate in a language that is not your own. Respect.
